The Social Plug takes a look across five decades of Fiji's history from Independence in 1970 to the year 2020. #FijiIndependence #50YearsofFiji #Socialplug
1987 Rabuka does the first coup. This initiates the mass exodus of Fiji Indians from Fiji. In the years to follow, thousands of educated, professional Fiji Indians migrate out of Fiji leaving Fiji brain drain and close to bankruptcy. The Fijian dollar which once used to equal the US dollar becomes penniless. The brain drain and lack of technical expertise leads to the dead of the Sugar industry, Garment industry, Tuna Industry does off and Gold exports dwindle. Year 2000, Speight outs the final nail to Fiji’s coffin. Covid 19 has killed the tourism industry and the only source of foreign income to the country. Fiji will soon be declared a new Province of China.
Though Viti had gained independence, up until 87', the British were still remotely controlling the internal affairs of Viti. The schools e.g. QVS, RSMS, SGS, RKS, ACS, etc. that the colonialists had established pre-1970 were graduating leaders who would continue to facilitate the agenda of the British in Viti. All Fijians in general, at political, economical and social levels, were not pleased with being governed. By 87', Viti there was so much discourse within that a unexpected winner (Bavadra party) won. Again, a Fijian of Indian descent would easily be influenced by the British. And so, that coup severed all ties with the British. It was 'necessary'. Though we lost membership to the Commonwealth we gained sovereignty and became a Republic. Lala Mara was a puppet for the British. He and his wife meddled and tampered with the Vanua settings employing 'vere' tactics. He is perceived as a 'toothless lion'. Looking majestic, righteous & authoritative but a public figure with strings on his body controlling him.
