- Playing an old string band tune with Devin Champlin and Katy Harris. I'm playing an African shaker with many names: Asalato, Kashaka, Kosika, Patica, Kass-Kass, Thelevi, etc. I'm no expert player, but I think the basic rhythms they make often fit old ragtime tunes like this one, originally recorded by the East Texas Serenaders in 1927. I bought my aslato at Rhythm Traders in Portland, Oregon. Scroll down a bit on this page to find them:

This is really, really great! I could listen to you all .... a lot! Both thumbs and big toes way up!
Great!
Wow! I am so impressed! :)
That was some of the best shit I have seen on youtube in a long time. You made the Asalato really work with blue grass, I would so love to have a jam with you all. Cheers!
jeff leff rules!
Wow! Amazingly awesome!
You're always playing with good musicians - just like you!
I never heard about this 'asalato'. A curious instrument, I would say.
At first glance, I thought you were playing rhythm bones.
@mrtesj
Its called an asalato. I have a pair myself and they are very tricky to use. Jeff however, RULES at them!
