- Backstage with my amazing friend Theo Martey of 'Akwaaba Ensemble' as he demonstrates his wizardry on the asalato. This might be my new favorite instrument. 100% all-organic, earth'n'soul-fed Ghanaian gourd music.

I’m a drummer of 20 years in the US and I’d never seen these before as of ten minutes ago. And as of 5 minutes ago I purchased a pair from a seemingly passionate and quality maker in the UK, and ai cannot wait
Its so cool to see instruments like that from around the world. Instantly captivating!
How are you liking them so far?
Did you get them is it nice?
How did it turn out ? You play them still ?
I discovered this same technique playing around with rope and weight attached to it. Made it bounce back and forth but never thought it was an actual historical instrument in Africa. Awesome.

The combo of rhytms is amazing.
Love it. Can’t wait to get some
its genius. who woulda thought that with the natural movement of the shaker you could add a string and have another sound ONE HANDED.
Estou vendo esse instrumento no Brasil. Casa muito bem com nossos rítmos, impressionante! Não sei o porquê não estava por aqui há mais tempo, como outros instrumentos africanos. É lindo !!❤
Bought a pair a week ago, can’t wait until they get here!!!
Ghanian music is something else. The body is directly involved in the music.
Isn’t it always though? I’m confused, who makes music without direct involvement of the body?
@@protoman1214 only elite musicians have proper control on their body as they play. It's quite discouraged in classical music. This instrument directly involves the body as you need to move your hands and body in order to get a sound out of them. There's a better connection to rhythm and movement. I just find it interesting, African music seems to me to be very in touch with the body.
love this!!
Watching in 2022 !!
