the reason frisk is able to survive a blow from papyrus, undyne, asgore, each have attack usually higher than frisk's hp is most likely because of determination since last time i checked 20 HP and 15 DEF doesn't survive 40+ ATK (but that might just be what i think if you agree then like this comment)
For me, Sans absorbed the soul, just like in The Thought, but here he was FORCED to absorb it, while in The Thought he did it on his own will, and I really understand him, better take the soul in Asgore's stead than being trapped into a never-ending loop of genocide where only you are aware of what's going to happen next.
