    Just FYI GR Yaris and GR Corolla has a soft limiter in 1st/2nd so you only get full turbo boost in 3rd. (Done purposefully by Toyota to protect engine/turbo under warranty)
    You can drop it from 3rd to second and floor it and it'll go nowhere fast , it'll feel like massive turbo lag where you feel like you are barely accelerating at all , with no way to remove it unless you custom tune the ECU so be very mindful.
    Also for future FL5 owners , even with 265 wide tires it'll wheelspin in 1st-2nd on warm tires if you floor it (even with stock PS4S tires) , you will have to load the throttle progressively for best results. it is not a car built for drag racing from a standstill but from a roll , only way to combat it is to either fit stickier tires (semi slick's / R compound) or extra supporting mods like an anti lift kit and Polybush the lower torque mount with Powerflex or Whiteline and cross your fingers , but it will be extremely close in cornering capability on the limit to the GR Corolla if not better. Honda have truly engineered the Type R to carve up corners and hit circuits (from factory).
    Anyone that has the opportunity to get either car is extremely lucky , but both cars try and target a particular audience , yet both cars have personalities that are total opposite of one another. Both have the capability to do what you want it to do , but do it in completely different ways.
    If you can test drive both before you make a decision then do so , otherwise comparing these 2 cars head-head is extremely difficult. At this price-point both cars are very high priced and its important you pick the car based on your own desires/wants.
    If you want my pick
    Daily: GR Yaris/Corolla
    Track: CTR
    I only say this because i now daily the CTR and the 30 profile tires are amazing on good roads but is super bumpy on less then ideal roads even in comfort mode , the car absorbs the bumps fine via the electronic suspension through the cabin so you don't get a sore back but its just the annoyance of having a super stiff setup from factory , anyone with the CTR i advise dropping to 18s with a 35 or 40 profile tire. its simple physics. That's my only neg otherwise its a fantastic car all around.
    Good luck guys , enjoy it while you can. This IS the golden age of ICE cars. Drive fast but responsibly.
    P.S for the video poster , you can turn off the fake engine noise if you set it to individual mode by holding up and just dial up all the other settings to your preference except the fake engine sound. It is still as simple as 3 button pushes.

    For those wondering, the Civic Type R and and Civic Si (respective year) have Adaptive Sound Control, which is what he means by "Fake engine noise." Essentially, theres a microphone near the engine, and it records and plays that audio through the car speakers. Its purely for the enjoyment of the engine noise, but can be annoying for content creators and people who enjoy quiet rides. You can disable it in settings with these newer models, but the older ones need the mics removed to turn it off (its a fairly simple process, but personally i like the noise! Makes me feel like im doing more than i am lmao).

I also love the true hot hatch design of the GRC. The CTR is not a hatch at all, it's a lift back. I don't know. Between these two cars, they feel very similar. For the most part. I've driven both and they are just fun to drive! I can go with any of those cars. There's not one that truly stands out over the other. It's really personal preference and styling. I'll stick with the GR Corolla because of its reliability and handling.
    As for the interior, I don't really care about it either. It's the driving experience that gets me. Like the guy said in this video, you can make the entire interior of the GR Corolla crap and I'll still buy it! And trust me when I say this, the GR Corolla is really, really fun to drive if I MUST choose between the two cars. But that's just my own personal opinion. I like the "feel" and it's like my body and the car itself, is one. You know what I mean? Like the Corolla responds to the way I want it to, like it knows how I want to handle the tight curves, and turns and when I need that extra "oomph". I don't get that with the Type R.
    This review video is definitely the best review I've seen so far between these two cars. Totally unbiased, real, and there are points made I've never heard of before. That's what makes this video #1 in review so far between the Type R Civic and GR Corolla.

      As good as the civic might be, front wheel drive makes me flaccid. It’s the antithesis of what driving dynamics should be. All the trickery and kit that the civic has, just mitigates what is inherently wrong with FWD.

    • @KN-jw7ts
      @KN-jw7ts Год назад +1

      Oh contraire mon frere……the best hot hatches have always homologation specials, that’s just a fact. And what do the vast majority of those have…..(say it with me) AWD. And this gr is the closest thing we can get to one of those here in the states. Btw, unfortunately bmw doesn’t do it for me anymore. Last one I had was an e46 m3, which I still regret selling. I digress, it’s not some big secret that fwd is the least desirable set up for enthusiasts. I can assure you, in the real world, places that have an actual 4 seasons….this gr is not only more capable, but will be much more fun….which is paramount. But I respect your opinion (albeit, weird) in liking fwd. I guess torque/under steer can be fun?

    • @van_der_lindeDA
      @van_der_lindeDA Год назад +4

      @KN-jw7ts no no one said the corolla is irrelevant, as another guy posted....if you looking at a complete package the CTR is better, and when I speak of a hot hatch for the road then the best hot hatches are 90 percent FWD...namely Peugeot 205gti, Megane RS, GTI clubsport...EK9 type R....so you can go get your rally special corolla and then everyone is happy....maybe one day take the FL5 for a drive and tell me what torque steer is....coz I have had both the FK8 and now FL5 and there is literally none of that, but I'm over this convo, you should maybe tell the honda engineers to wake up and listen to your opinion on the car.

    I'm not too impressed with the Toyota as it has a number of heat related problems if you race it. On the street it might be ok for a burst of speed every now and then. The Civic seems much more sorted out and balanced, plus it just flat out looks great. Actually the Golf R (not included here) is the all around winner by quite a large margin IMO.

    Civic type R drivetrain really limits further power and performance, without compromising the balance that it’s barely holding on to. GR Corolla is the way…. And I’m a Honda guy. (Btw the hood vents are real on the GR corolla, this ain’t no Supra! ahahha but thats cool too 🤣)

      No offense, but you don’t know what you’re talking about. The GRC transmission has some major downfalls, and is not very strong. There is a reason why every modded GRY has a dog box or sequential.

      @dogshmog I'm not mad ahaha but who said anything about the gearbox in the gr? I'm just saying the civic type r is too powerful for front wheel drive imo... It's fast and performs great but with those type of numbers, I prefer awd or rwd. Definitely awesome cars to say the least. I think differently from some people when it comes to horsepower numbers ahahaa I feel the type r has enough power right where it is and the grc could use another 80-100.... these are premium economy cars after all 🤷‍♂️🤙

    Good Review and comparison between the two. But I would take the Type R, couple reasons. One, Civic will hold it's value more, plus it's 4 Cylinder and not 3. Two the Corolla Shifter is too low, I saw one at the dealer and just didn't like there was no place to rest your elbow when shifting in Toyota. and it would require more maintenance due to All Wheel Drive. Other than that I think both cars are good. Type R is just more all around better.

    I've got a GR, but these days 300hp which used to be supercar power is just meh today. My tuned S3 which I sold and got the GR would do 4-wheel burnouts on 200TW 255 tires and low 3sec 0-60. THAT was fast and buying used it was 1/2 the cost of a new GR including all the mods... Definitely feeling some sellers remorse now though the GR has lots of grip and a manual transmission. GR for the street, Civic for the track maybe. Civic has the best interior Honda has done in a long time.
