Hi, when my dinghy is in the water can I flush with ear muffs and/or the top port while the leg is in the fully up position. Also should I use salt away through both ports. ?
Good video man thank you I’ve got a 2013 115 four stroke Yamaha I go out in Apalachee Bay pretty often all I’ve ever done is connect the hose to the flushing adapter and let it run for 15 or 20 minutes am I not doing something? Should I also use the earmuffs?
Yamaha does claim running the engine with only the top water connection can harm the water pump. Using both looks to be fine. If only one hose, you do recommend only "running" the engine with the muffs on, correct ?
@@captaindrewcavanaugh why would you want to flush on the suction side bottom hose and into the discharge line from the pump at the same time? If you want the thermostat to open use the muffs into the suction of the pump.
Great video ! Have the same question, as I just used the muffs only and there was no water at all through the pee hole after about 10 seconds or so. Is it still normal ? The other thing I’ve noticed that the amount of water or it’s flow that being dispensed near the intake inlets does not change after the engine is started. Does it mean that it could be something wrong with the impeller or the water pump itself ? Thank you !!
It depends on the amount of pressure and flow of the water. If low, it takes longer for water to come out the pee port since the entire engine must fill up before the uppermost port expels water. You should see it pee after about a minute max. AND you should obviously see it pee whenever it is running in the water. I always notice that it is peeing while still in the water before I shut it down for this exact question.
Listen, if you watch an dread the video instructions it clearly states USE BOTH at the SAME TIME to flush the engine while running. TWO. Not just the top port, but the headphones also.
To be honest I watched anouther video and they ran the motor with just the top flush let it go for 30 min Prior to run they inspected the impeller then again after with no damage at all and engine did not overheat.
but why use both at the same time? wouldn't the muffs be enough? if were trying to run it to open the thermostats, wouldn't less cooling water flow be better? quicker to temp, longer time flushing all connective passageways?.... lol next time you replace the impeller, hook up the hose. if forceful water shoots down the pressure tube, id say you probably have enough lubricating water to run the engine. we know plenty of people are running their engines and getting away with it. maybe there is enough getting down that tube...

well Im glad I didnt try to run the engine with only the top connection! thank you for this video.
After watching a lot of videos, yours was by far the most informative and best. Thanks.

I am not sure. I would try to keep it lowered. Salt away is more for tackle and gear. Not to be used as a flush.
I use this every 5 or 6 times: Salt Terminator - amzn.to/3WtGpLZ

So you can do both at the same time of one at a time. Doing the earmuffs opens the thermostat.
If your engine is warm don’t bother with the earmuffs if cold use them with engine running too give time for thermo to open
My local dealer said they run them just by the port
Yes you can, but I do both.

You are correct. If using just one hose do teh muffs. However you can do both, just one at a time.
@@captaindrewcavanaugh Great job on the new Vid :)
I use just the top connection with engine off is that good enough it’s my only option anyway I’m in boat slip
Yes
@@captaindrewcavanaughwould that open the thermostat and flush the whole engine?
No because the thermostat needs to be hot to open. That is why i run the engine.
@@captaindrewcavanaugh why would you want to flush on the suction side bottom hose and into the discharge line from the pump at the same time? If you want the thermostat to open use the muffs into the suction of the pump.
When I do this sometimes the impeller spins very slowly, sometimes it doesn’t, is this normal?
Yes it is normal. The water is causing it to spin.
Can you use the muffs only?
Yes, you can. Just make sure the engine is peeing.
Yes as long as your water pressure is good and constant
What prop are you running please
Power Tech 17 pitch 4 blade
No sé necesita arrancar el motor cuando llegues de la pesca está caliente solo enjuagarse agua dulce....
Aún querrá enjuagar el motor con agua mientras está funcionando para eliminar la sal del termostato.
Now I have a 19 175 sho mine will not send water out the pee hole…….had the water pump changed and still no water out the pee…
Sounds like a clog some where.
On my 19 sho will not pee with just the head phones on the bottom…you must submerge the lower fin above the prop……
If just using only the muffs, how long after the motor is started does it take for water to come out the pee hole? How many seconds or minutes?
A few seconds, no longer than a minute for sure.

NO. Use the headphones and the top port at the same time.
Definitely NO!
Dum question but what if have 2 or 3 outboards , or can you run one motor at a time ?
Yes
I don't see why your method would not be OK, I just can't find anything from Yamaha to confirm your method is OK.
Because Yamaha wont acknowledge it. Run both.
Rediculous!!!!
Ears on the bottom run motor
Hose at the top is a static flush, not running.
End of argument!!!!?

Just puts more water in there one, two if you use just the port you cannot run the engine to open the thermostat.
