    Thanks James yes the majority of boaters thinks its only 5 minutes which is not true and detrimental to the engine for saltwater use 15 minutes is the industry norm....

    Hi i have a 30 year old 40hp in its day it would have been a top off the range yam 2 stroke even at that age it was no where near that bad when i pulled it down ,had calcium build up but that may be from using bore water i dropped the block and head and gasket cover in a neat solution of clr the stuff you buy from coles it worked a treat got rid of all the lime scale and cleared all the water galleries , i spoke to the lad next door about how long he runs his 4 stroke for (very short) he said he didnt want to upset the neighbours i said stuff the neighbours there not paying big money for a new engine ,i flush mine at the ramp and again when i get home and 15 mins would be the minimum .

    After buying a second hand engine. Do chemical flushing agents such as salt away rectify this build up?

  • @tyronerautahi9705

    What he failed to tell you . The outboard won’t start to properly flush till the engine is up to temperature enough to open the thermostat coz most of the engine is blocked off till the thermostat is up to temperature and open.

      In 15 minutes as he recommends it will be up to temperature.

    I will be taking my pontoon boat up the Neuse River in NC and that is really brackish water. I will be using a public boat launch to both launch and recover. There is no water faucet to hook a hose up to for at minimum an initial flushing with just plain no salt water. My thought is to have a couple gallons of mixed salt away and water and with a funnel get it down the two flush ports I have on my Suzuki 150. Once I complete the 3 1/2 to 4 hour drive home, I will go through the full de-salinization process properly.
    What are your thoughts on my plan??

      Just wait until you get home. Crystallisation of salt takes months not minutes.

    I have found that the best way to flush an outboard and even tuning it, is to put it in a barrel so that it's under pressure like you run it in the water. Mouse ears is not good enough.

      False. My dad's first two boats were used almost exclusively in salt and only flushed with muffs. When we opened them up for some repairs there was no salt in them.

    Hi great video! Can i run my 4 stroke 175 hp while on a static flush or do i have to use the earmuffs?

    We always flush with salt away. And in that, 5 minute flush is fine. In fact people I know actually recommend to NOT flush it for 15 minutes because that will remove any salt away from the cooling system and the salt away left in will protect and further dissolve salt built up in the engine.

      Fresh water flush for 10 minutes water only then switch over to salt away mixture and let it run till mixture is all used up and gone then stop.

    Sorry to ruin the long flushing party, but according to the Salt Away CEO, fresh water won't remove at all salt buildups on the entire water passages due to hundreds of ON (Heat) OFF, (cold) cycles and because all water passages are porous, natural salt collectors. Performing a service as the video shows at each 300 run hours it's the way to go for trouble free spot on cooling operation.

    • @teeanahera8949
      @teeanahera8949 Год назад

      Salt Away is trying to make money you nonce. Water passages are cast aluminium so they are NOT porous. I seriously doubt that any product is left in the water jacket after a few minutes running in the water. That CEO is bullshitting you. Manufacturers on the other hand do not want warranty claims and they test corrosion results, take their advice. 15 mins in fresh water will dissolve salt.
