"you do not get out bankruptcy by putting $13 a month in your 401(k). You do it by taking big swings!" This is not financial advice. The Herd is not responsible for any market losses.
I never thought I would see "manufactured consent" in sports. Colin just sold out without knowing it. Jerry is in trouble. The Cowboys are in the crosshairs. It's simple for the Cowboys. You are all-in on Dak. So build around him. Trade Micah for picks. Move the trash Diggs contract and see what you can get. Build the O-Line and put weapons with CeeDee around Dak. Then hire a legit Offensive-minded coach to make it all go. That's what you do if you're the Cowboys. Colin is off his rocker.
Shed is still just a very good college qb. Whoever drafts him ( prob LV) will not compete right away. IF by some miracle the Pokes can put Dak and a couple draft picks as a draft day trade for Shed, they still wont be that good. Ive been a Dallas fan since Rog and outside of 86/87/88 this is the worst couple of years vibe wise I can remember.
So, just to clarify, there's very few scenarios where you can move on from Dak before 2026. Just a financial reality. If he's released prior to June 1st, his 2025 cap hit becomes $151.8M. If he's traded before June 1, his 2025 cap hit becomes $104.1M. The Cowboys can't afford either of those. If he's released after June 1st, his 2025 cap hit is $89.8M (his current cap hit now, which the Cowboys can't afford) and he has an additional $62M dead $ cap hit in 2026. Neither of those is an option. The only "slight" option is a post June 1 trade, where they draft a QB in April and convince another team to trade for Dak. That comes with a 2025 cap hit of $42.1M, and another dead $ cap hit in 2026 of $62M. Basically, there is no scenario possible where Dak isn't a Cowboy and doesn't cost at least $104M over the next two years. The most realistic outcome is a post-June 1 cut or trade in 2026. And even that comes with significant dead $ cap hits.
I’m old enough to remember that the same media talking heads who said they better sign Dak, are the same ones who are now saying they should have never signed him.
A team with only five playoff victories over nearly three decades suggests the issue lies not with the players or coaches, but with its one constant…the GM/Owner. The addition of players and/or coaches won’t help unless Jerry changes. Jerry Jones reminds me of Al Davis. Their earlier triumphs made them resistant to relinquishing control, leading them to crave the limelight and failing to acknowledge their role in the team’s issues.
I couldn't agree more. That being said giving up Parsons and three first rounders to move up is a reach. I think they can just trade Parsons to move up or what i like more is get more draft picks for him including first round picks. At that point you could decide to use some of that draft capital to move up if you even need to. They may actually end up with the first pick as is. Team is horrible lol. But regardless trading Parsons while he is worth some quality draft capital is most likely the way to go. No sense in keeping him and paying him also. Then you have 3 guys (Parsons, dak, cede) getting 65% of the teams salary cap. Thats really terrible cap management.
- Their roster is not bad as a few other teams that are in the mix - The Texans do this to every QB-deprived team - McCarthy is fighting for his job - Players have contractual incentives - Dallas is “too big to fail”, meaning that they have too much pride to purposely give games away - Washington’s second game with DAL may be inconsequential, if the Eagles already clinched. Washington will be playoff bound and would want to rest their players. - The Raiders, Jags, and Titans may fire their coaches midseason too depending on results of games Overall I can see the Cowboys winning 2-3 more games. Also, trading 3 firsts AND Micah Parsons is how folks get fired lol.
Doesn’t work like this. You can’t just “move off” the quarterback you just signed to a 4 year 60m a year contract. It just doesn’t happen. We’re stuck with him. It is what it is. We need to trade Parsons, load up on draft picks, hire Ben Johnson (pipe dream, I know) and hopefully finish 3-14 and get the highest pick possible. We re-signed Dak because Jerry didn’t think the rest of the team would be this bad but he was wrong. They’re terrible. And Dak’s contract limits what we can do in free agency. Also giving up 3 first round picks to get Shedeur would see that stadium burn
I wouldn't draft Sanders under any circumstances because his father comes with him. Dim-witted decisions regarding player personnel have made the Cowboys what they currently are, and I don't believe most or any of that is on McCarthy. Remember that this is the team that let Amari Cooper go for a 4th found pick because they got mad at him. Seen what Cooper is doing lately for Buffalo? When momentary emotional upsets inform your decisions regarding personnel, the team suffers. As for much of the rest, here's one thing I think most of us can agree on: Offenses become exponentially better when the offensive line is absolutely first rate. These days, the Dallas line is third rate. I think of Joe Gibbs' success with the Redskins in the 1980s. They won three championships in eleven or twelve years with three different QBs. Not one of those QBs are in the Hall of Fame, but those offensive lines were consistently awesome. When these same Cowboys won three out of four championships in the early to mid-Nineties, their offensive lines were superb. Would Troy and Co. have had the same success with average or below-average players manning the line? I don't think so. What Dallas has done at running back is also a real head-scratcher. Bringing back Zeke was simply bizarre. As for Dak, all anyone can do is shrug in disbelief at the money they are now paying him (and thus not paying offensive linemen, a great RB, and/or others). Again, that's not McCarthy. That's Jones and his son.
❤Y GOD For Colin Cowherd, Jason McIntyre, JMack, Joel Klatt, Coach Eric Mangini,Rick Bucher, Tom Brady, TJ Houzmanzadeh, Danny Parkins, Ashley Brewer, Bucky Brooks, Joy Taylor and everyone on The Herd and their Families.
The difference is also that Romo is also way better than dak, whatever you may think of him, you were never out of a game with Romo. With dak if you’re behind early you know how the games gonna end
Colin's all in on this "trade three first round picks and your best defensive player for the #1 pick", isn't he? He said the same thing about the Steelers moving up to draft Caleb

Most definitely!! Sanders is going to be a good NFL QB and he’s already a better thrower of the football and a better leader than Dak 💯✅
Colin is 100% accurate on this one!
I’ve been saying this for 12 months!
Also, there will be lots of CU Podcasts going out of business…
Dakota is always injured and why would JJ pay him 1 week before season starts, way to much money and long contracts with too much no injury clauses, just like Cleveland and Deshan Watson front office tanked on this astronomical amount of money ? 260 million someone needs a football doctor.
Trying to blame an awful roster on dak lol
And what did he do with a stacked roster??
@@Gabagool933 12-5 seasons lol
@@iguessthatsmehuh lol stay being happy what that bum does during the regular season against bad teams and completely choking when it actually matters against good times
Micah Parsons and three firsts???
Ya three firsts is a little crazy
@@kelvincabrera558 micah parsons alone is crazy lmao this is shedeur not andrew luck
Colin C one of the few folks that are awesome on tv and radio. Always balanced and informative. And entertaining!
I hate the Dallas Cowboys... So please keep Dak Prescott
Trade him to Cleveland! Get some picks to try to trade up...
Colin is 100% right
Idk about the 3 1st AND micah part lol
But everything else factsb
Trade Dak
Houston is the new Texas team not the Cowboys!
You know Colin is feeling himself when he hits a "Bruuuh" within the first 2 minutes. 🤣😂
Maybe the cowboys will be so ad the next 4 years they will finally have top draft picks!
Yes. Bring on Shedeur Sanders and Deion Sanders.
Exactly ZERO Cowboys fans will be mad if we move off Dak
Man poor JMack, Collin has been shitting on him all show LMAO 🤣..”hard life, and you went to private schools” lol
Fan since 1970 - don't want Deion or Shedeur....or Jerry....or Dak.....or Zeke either.
3 1sts and Micah to draft Shedeur???????? I love Shedeur, but this isn’t Jayden, Burrow, Caleb, name any top pick lol what are we doing
Man that would be a dream come true …
Maybe just maybe after this season Jerry will finally make big moves
No Colin , Dallas should not give up first round picks for Shedeur. I like him but we need to rebuild the team.
I agree 1000%
call me crazy but Shedeur’s ceiling is Dak Prescott
I been saying for years the cowboys will never win with Dak
"Bruh c'mon" 😂
God is good
I couldn't agree more.
- Their roster is not bad as a few other teams that are in the mix
- The Texans do this to every QB-deprived team
- McCarthy is fighting for his job
- Players have contractual incentives
- Dallas is “too big to fail”, meaning that they have too much pride to purposely give games away
- Washington’s second game with DAL may be inconsequential, if the Eagles already clinched. Washington will be playoff bound and would want to rest their players.
- The Raiders, Jags, and Titans may fire their coaches midseason too depending on results of games
Overall I can see the Cowboys winning 2-3 more games.
Also, trading 3 firsts AND Micah Parsons is how folks get fired lol.
Who's gonna take Dak & that ridiculous contract?
Er, we should be trading Parsons FOR picks, not the other way around. Jeez.
I am more likely to win the lottery today (without a ticket) than the Cowboys are to draft shedeur sanders
Move on from Jerra
I have not watched yet but this is a moot point. They quite literally cannot move off Dak with that contract.
DO NOT TRADE MICAH
How do they do that,If they get Xhadeur, they better get Sanders as the head coach,it's just different playing with as much comfort as the kid has
Improve the line, improve the d backs, draft the best RB next April.
The Sanders clan should go to NO Saints.
Yes. Please please please. We need him.
Colin's all in on this "trade three first round picks and your best defensive player for the #1 pick", isn't he? He said the same thing about the Steelers moving up to draft Caleb
