- Bus Ride on M/O 7518 - The Last CDC 550 in Route Service. Join me for a ride on CDC NSW’s last O405NH in route service. M/O 7518 was built in 1998 for Westbus, and originally served at their Bonnyrigg depot before being transferred to Dural, and later Northmead. It is a Mercedes Benz O405NH with a Custom Coaches 550 body. All of the other CDC O405NHs have been withdrawn from route service, and now they only serve during special events, charter operations and school services. It would not surprise me if M/O 7518 is withdrawn in the near future, as it is one of CDC’s oldest buses still in service.

As of writing this (7/4/24) at least 3 other O405NHs have been recommissioned from both Northmead and Dural depots.

The O405NHs weren't very common at all, even when they were all in service. Route 603 normally gets the older buses, and I can certainly see why this route is your favourite, and after this ride I think it's one of my favourite routes too!
Although not my personal favourite, this bus has done fantastic to still be on the run after 26 years, testament to how well-built it is. Fantastic video mate.
Custom Coaches build quality of the 1990s is amazing. Although 7518 is a tough little bus, it does break down fairly often given that it’s 26 years old. Thanks for watching NRTV
I really enjoyed this journey and listening to the gear changes brought back fond memories. Mercedes 0405NH's were beautiful buses to drive with the exception of the CNG models. The bus we are riding here is typical of a ZF gearbox with the noticeable gear changes and is a little laboured on the hills with slight gear hunting noticeable. The STA CNG version was absolutely crap on hills due to the added weight of the gas tanks, which sat on the roof directly above the driver. The driver in this video is very competent and safe. You picked the best position in the bus to observe the engine noise, and general operation of the bus. ,well done 👍👏
I’m glad you enjoyed watching the video. Although 7518 is often plagued with mechanical faults, it’s made it 26 years and I’m sure it would last until the end of time. Thanks John

Route 603 will push almost any bus to it’s limits, but the driver certainly knows what he’s doing 😂

feels weird when i remember that the NSW 550s don't hold their first gear like the ex-National ones here in melbourne do
I think 7518 is ex-National Express. If I remember correctly, 7518 started with Bosnjak’s (Westbus), then National Express bought Westbus and also purchased the Glenorie Bus Company, rebranding the latter as Hillsbus, and finally ComfortDelGro purchased Westbus and Hillsbus, merging both of them into Hillsbus. Please correct me if I’m wrong.
