Fun fact, the real Corsair had an “air brake” setting for the landing gear where they would only deploy about 1/2 way from what was required to land. Just enough to get that flat cover surface out to slow the plane.
That feature would deploy only the two front wheels because those two where built different 💯, but not the tailwheel because it would get ripped at speed like normal
Earlier A models had manual landing gear hand controls for the pilot to hand crank the knob down to lower the landing gear. During engagements in the Pacific they'd crack that knob down a bit to have the landing gear cowlings fall into the slipstream to create just enough drag to allow for better maneuvering against the more nimble Japanese planes. Later in the war the later models had more robust landing gear suited for the harsher conditions of carrier takeoffs. Then the dive brake controls allowed for both front mains to deploy and act as dive brakes. War Thunder first modeled in the former on the A models but everyone complained about the borrowed text "airbrake deployed" coupled with "Corsairs aren't dive bombers" so they removed this feature. Stupidity at its finest.
Or Marines The Navy kind of disliked how difficult it was to land a Corsair on an aircraft carrier because the nose of the plane was too long and mqde it difficult for pilots to keep eye contact with the deck (until the Brits developed a technique for it), so they gave most if not all Corsairs to the Marines. Until they too figured out how to land them on aircraft carriers.
My favorite series of aircraft to fly in game. Great characteristics, good armament for all models, and pretty tough as well. It’s everything you want in a fighter, and im proud to say im a dedicated Corsair pilot
Okay as an added tip . Corsairs have 8 mins of usable WEP. So keep this in mind when flying them . Reserve 4 mins for climb so that you have 4 mins to use in critical situations when you not only need that power but also need your engines to be as cool as possible.
If you want to have fun with the cannon corsairs you can remove the gun upgrade and load stealth belts so you have auto shotguns and the enemy can’t see your fire. People will head on you and get clapped.
@@juanordonezgalban2278 We are talking about airframe not the engine (which is not underpowered by any means). Airframe makes it one of the fastest planes for it's BR in level flight as well as dive speeds. High speed control is also remarkable. It turns pretty well too.
3:33 I'm gonna be nit-picky here. TAS is the actual airspeed, not in relation to ground. It is how fast the air actually moves relative to the aircraft. IAS will decrease with altitude due to the density of the air decreasing and therefore causing a reduction of dynamic pressure (dynamic pressure = 0.5*density*true airspeed^2) which the aircraft is subject to. IAS is calibrated to sea level conditions, hence at sea level under normal conditions your IAS should be identical to your TAS.
3:39 Well yes, but no. GS (Ground Speed) = Speed relative to the ground TAS (True Air Speed) = Speed relative to the air IAS (Indicated Air Speed) = Speed as indicated by the airspeed indicator. Planes use a pitot tube to measure air speed. As the plane climbs, the air becomes less dense and the dynamic pressure inside the pitot tube will become smaller even if the plane is flying at a constant true air speed. This is actually a good thing, because (as you mention) this means that you get a better indicator of how the plane will handle. In other words, the plane will handle the same at 300 knots IAS whether that's at sea level or at 20,000 ft. In the former case, TAS will also be 300 knots. In the latter case the TAS will be about 400 knots. CAS (Calibrated Air Speed) = IAS with a correction factor for instrument error. The difference between GS and TAS is the wind - on a day with no wind they will be the same.

Having a way to show both IAS and TAS are advantageous. Think of an FPS game: TAS is your overall ammo pool IAS is the ammo in your magazine. Your IAS can affect your TAS, but if you can keep minimal energy loss and in fact carry more energy than your enemy. You have higher chances to win.
