    took you long enough :-) soon after i got my Niro August 2019, i replaced the backup and interior bulbs to LED. i have used AUXITO on my other vehicles with high satisfaction and no problem with fade outs. for backup, i have used AUXITO 912 921 LED Backup Light Bulbs High Power 2835 15-SMD 6watt bulb with 1000 lumen rating. it's plug-n-play and very bright. i have the same bulb in RX350 and no problem for the past 2+ years i had on. Niro does have "weak" lights except for LED tail lamp. I have also updated the HL/DL/front corner and all interior lights with AUXITO LED bulbs and they are all huge improvement. none of the LED bulb get "hot" so I am expecting to save on energy too.

      It always makes me a bit weary doing something like this on a new car, but I couldn't stand not seeing in reverse at night 🙂
      Since I have the Canadian SX Touring version almost all of the lights are LED inside and out, with the exception of the fog lights, reverse lights and license plate lights. I never understood the thought process at Kia for that choice of exclusion. I bought Sylvania Zevo 194 6000K LED bulbs for the license plate and will be installing them in future video.
      I am glad to hear that you have not had issues over 2 years of using LEDs, it reassures me that mine will last a long time, especially since they are only used in reverse. Thanks for watching and sharing your experience with your Niro.

    German middle trim has no LED at all. Looking forward to adapt at least some interior lights with LEDs.
    Saw that you haven’t pimped your trunk. I extended the trunk by about 100 Liters by lowering the trunk cover.

    • @EV-olution
      @EV-olution  4 года назад +2

      Unfortunately in my 2019 Niro EV (e-Niro) there is no way to lower the trunk cover. My previous car, a 2014 Nissan Note, I was able to remove the cover for extra space and thought it was convenient, but my Niro is large enough for my needs.
      Too bad the middle Niro in Germany has no LED lights. At least the bulbs are relatively inexpensive and are fairly easy to replace, but it would have been nice of Kia to standardize these little details worldwide. Thanks for watching 🙂

      Thanks for the reply and information. Since making this video back in 2020 I was told by several viewers in the UK about your interesting setup for reverse lighting. I was very suprised that one of them is a fog light and I don't really understand the need for it. In your situation you can only replace the regular reverse light because the other has a different connector and bulb from what I recall. Also to note, since it has been 4 years that this video was made, there are newer LED bulbs that don't use the pigtail design like the ones I had used. The newer bulbs integrate everything into a small package that fits into the socket and into the light housing. I don't have a link since that is not what I bought, but some viewers had pointed it out over the last few years.

      Thanks for watching and yes, the reverse bulbs suck. They look like bulbs out of my 1973 Dodge Dart Swinger (my first car). The Canadian Niro EV SX Touring has LED everywhere except for the fog lights, reverse lights and license plate lights. I bought some Sylvania Zevo LED bulbs for the plate and will have them in a future video. The reason I did not buy LED replacements for the fog lights is because I never use them. I know it is a popular topic, but I am on the fence since I don't need them; I think people would be interested in seeing a detailed video about them though. It just seems like wasting money since I would never use them. I may reach out to the supplier of the reverse lights and see if they want to send me a set for free. I don't like to ask for free stuff because of who I am and because I don't want people to think I am biased because of the free item. I will decide what to do later. Thanks again 🙂

      If you think thats bad. The newer models of Mercedes and BMW requires you to take off half the car just to change the oil filter. All Toyota trucks now requires you to take off half of the front guard just to remove the filter capsule. They design it in such a way that you have to go to the dealership or an oil changing station just to change your oil. The older models from 2007 and older were a lot easier to DIY yourself in less than 15 minutes.

    Like your Videos. I Will put the new back-up bulbs in too. Do you know the maximum voltage I can charge the 2020 Kia Niro? Looking to buy a chord that will charge at 32 amps which is faster than the 120volt 12 amp chord that comes with the car. I notice some charging cables can handle 40 amps, but not sure the car can handle it. Thanks in advance.

    • @EV-olution
      @EV-olution  3 года назад

      The Kia Niro EV (e-Niro) has 2 different charging speeds depending on where you live in the world: 7kW and 11kW (3 Phase in Europe). The charging station you choose will decide if you can hit the top speed so you must verify with the manufacturer of the charging station for the amperage it provides. I am in North America so I have the 7kW Niro EV and I chose the Flo X5 that is a 30A station allowing me to get the 7kW maximum speed out of my car. If you have the 7kW Niro EV then buying a 40A charging station does not improve charging speed. If you are using the 120V device included in the car, even at the maximum amperage, it will take a very long time to charge the car so I suggest having a 240V unit installed if you drive your car regularly/daily and depleting the battery. I hope this helps.

Let me explain. I went to O'Reilly's website and looked up the specs of the original halogen light bulb. I found this: EiKO Clear 9005 Halogen Bulb, Base Type: Right Angle Prefocus, HB3 (P20d). With this knowledge I went to Amazon and searched for LED Headlight Bulbs. I found a pair of fan-less (I have fan-type fog lights in my 2015 Jeep Cherokee and they are noisy! ... but so is the ICE) headlights that fit the light bulb type, connector, and they come with a ballast already installed. The installation went without a hitch, I placed the ballast inside the light housing, made sure it's not melting through anything and tested it. Works well, and the car believes nothing has changed.

Plusieurs membres des groupes Facebook Niro ont la même opinion que moi, mais certaines personnes ont opté pour l'achat de la garantie.
      Merci de suivre mes vidéos, j'apprécie! 🙂

    Thx for the video. I love my electric Niro but the one big problem problem is the halogen headlights. 2019 reg and they all have the halogens in the uk. 2020 reg got leds but they’re not the same size housing so not a straight swap unfortunately. The halogens are awful. Does anyone have a way to fix uk road legal leds into them that provide a good headlight beam that doesn’t disperse? A lot I see online are not road legal. Cheers.

      @@EV-olution thx. Think I’ve seen the vid in question and the problem is getting Uk road legal ones. Anything not road legal could cause issues if you have a crash etc. Such a shame Kia don’t offer a solution here. My local dealer is crap unfortunately. They just don’t want to know ie can’t be bothered to help me find a solution. Still love the car however. What I don’t get is how this car, despite being roughly 2 years old is still better than so many of the newly released ev’s now in my opinion, firmly underpinned by that excellent range. I really get why you rave about it. Here’s a question though - for all the ev’s currently available, do any in the same sort of price bracket make you want to trade in your e Niro and change? For me the answer is no.

However I think that the ionic has one of those godawful screens instead of an array of buttons to operate everything (would drive me mad) and neither improve range a lot which is disappointing. @@EV-olution Hi Andre. The UK model only has a single nearside reversing light and I have changed it to the same led bulb you used yesterday. Today I washed the car and I have a blue screen instead of the rear camera when in reverse gear. I hadn't checked this since changing the bulb. Do you think the power to the camera is linked to the reversing light and this is causing an error? Didn't want to go to trouble of taking cover off again and changing bulb back. Car is only 6 days old!!!

    • @EV-olution

      That is a big surprise to me for two reasons. (1) You only have 1 reverse bulb!!! That makes no sense. Did you look to see if the other side has the bulb socket? (2) The bulb shouldn't affect the rear camera. If it was a voltage thing then others, including myself, would have an issue. Try putting the old bulb back in to see what happens, I am very curious. Also, if you could message me on Facebook it would be easier for me because I am getting lots of comments on my videos I I just found your above reply today. @@EV-olution
      Apologies Andre but I'm not on FB so can't message you that way. Yes I checked the other side. Where you have your driver's side reverse light, in UK it's the rear fog light. It's already LED and instead of the bulb inserting vertically like the reverse bulb, it inserts horizontally backwards. Not unusual in UK to have only one reverse light or one rear fog light. We also don't have the cargo net, seat memory, blue interior piping, tilting side mirrors, blind spot warning, 2 step door locking! I could go on! I've changed the one reverse light and it's great. Enough light from one to see. Kia UK don't know what problem is but ok now and if problem they will get car in and replace camera if needed. Keep up great videos.

    • @EV-olution
      @EV-olution  4 года назад +1

      Unfortunately the LED headlights that the Niro EV has are pretty directional. They cast a wide beam when driving, but closer to the car there are the dark spots so I know what you mean. There is no real solution to this. I think Hyundai put the turning lights in the Kona Electric for this exact reason and I find it a shame that Kia did not have the foresite to do the same. Maybe in a future model year.

There are some people who have bought LED bulbs that don't have a pigtail and have everything integrated in the bulb, and they are happy.
