Glad to see other enthusiasts enjoying these cars I have an 89 former Georgia State Patrol unit 798 post 44 Forsyth
Thank you
Wow I remember 1985 one of those passing me at hi speed on the 210 freeway going west chasing someone who was trying to out maneuver the chp offer. What a sight.
I drove one, loved the way it handled. The ebrake had to be yanked way up or you'd be chasing her down the freeeway! No antilock so I do remember seeing a few flat spotted tires from guys doing high speed stops.
Warning- in the intro...RIP headphone users
RIP Harambe
Looks great
I have owned four Mustangs (3 of which had the 302 V8). They were light & quick, especially with the 5spd manual transmission. Compared to a heavy Impala or LTD, they were much faster.
Drum brakes in the rear were susceptible to locking up and the Mustang rear end got "squirrelly" on wet roads. Don't try driving one fast in the snow, either.
The Copstang was still a great car, though!
Funny you mention 302 Stang. In 1993 I bought a Chevy Camaro with the V8 305 and 5 speed auto trans. My first night out driving around in the camaro I was getting onto a freeway on ramp. I pulled up to a mustang not knowing anything about it. The Driver asked me if I wanted to race, stupidly I said yes let's do this. He asked how much money was I willing to lose, I had a $150.00 cash in my pocket. We lined up un the on ramp and we're going to run to a designated freeway off ramp in Glendora at Sunflower.
On the third honk we left I had the hole shot and quickly got ahead of him.
Then the pony driver did something totally amazing he went blacked out. He turned off his lights and then proceeded to pas me and then leave me way way behind.
I was pegged at 150 miles an hour and bouncing off the rev limiter. Which I had no idea at that time what THAT Was.
I got to the sunflower exit he was waiting for me. I handed him the money and shook his hand as he won fair and square.
That next day I took my Camaro back to the dealer telling the service writer my engine was cutting off at speed. I didn't say What Speed. 😮...
Anyway I ended up over the next year building a 383 stroker motor on an engine cradle, and replacing the 700R4 Trans in my camaro with a 4L60 Built for high horse power.
My $38,000.00 Camaro ended up costing me $46,000.00 including the $150.00 from the race after all the upgrades I installed. I wasn't ever going to lose to another Mustang again. 😢😢😢
Mustang is in a crown vic
that was cool lucky dude
Awesome car
From an ex-law enforcement deputy, rumor has the CHP dropped using the mustang cause they were so fast and stopping them cause many of the mustangs to roll. Is this true?
Not true. They stopped using them because ford stopped making them.
They are also not great for prisoner transport and aren't as strong as a Dodge Charger.
Wow I didn't know my headphones doubled as a loud speaker
You can tell it is authentic by the California exempt plates, seeing that chp is basically state police, the diamond with an "e" inside indicates that its a state owned vehicle, I believe all newer licenses plates whether owned by city, county, state and government funded transportation authorities( city buses) all say CA exempt and usually start with the number "1". All said this is one beautiful fox body.
At a higher speed, the Patrol vehicle will start to outrun the siren. The Patrol vehicles with the siren device under the hood does have a problem with the hearing of it.
The speed of sound is over 750 MPH. I don't think the car is that fast.

My fatherinlaw is retired Az DPS
He drove mustang on i-40
His partner drove the t-bird
Early 90,s dist 3 ......
Can't image spending $50k and thousands of hours of your spare time on something you can't use....
I remember when the chippies use to fly by chasing speeders on the freeway! Bad Ass!
Rip my ears
Theses were bought to chase and stay in the pursuit, unlike today where they stop after a .5 mile do to "safety " on an open highway!
Imagine the reaction of people when they see the CHP logo passing them
jesus christ my ears
they stop makeing the LX till1993
A coupe suits those Caltrans employees; they're not arresting anyone any time soon, no cage needed....
I love the comments people saying these cars were junk and over heated or older mustangs are slow 😂 the old school Windsor 302 was a tough engine. Back in the 80s and early 90s nothing could touch the mustang your old junk Camaros running the 305 or 350 tune port were slower not unless you had the late 80s iroc z 350 tune port with g92 package. Even the old gta’s had no chance on the 5.0 lx coupe. People need to learn what they are talking about the true 1980s sleeper was a 1986 gnx that’s about the only thing the 5.0 couldn’t touch
Neat car. LAPD cops would have killed for one of these back in the late 1980's/early 1990's
mustangs aren't fast. especially the older ones
+Eric Fortune anything was faster than that dog of a Camaro with the 305
what are you smoking? i have a 412 hp car that would whip most anything in stock form.
It just had to be faster than most of the crap that was out there.
Eeew. Who moves from California to Oregon 🤢
So he's a former CHP Officer? Now I have to wonder, did he spend the required number of years to get a retirement? If so I also have to wonder, why does he now live in Oregon? Might the tax climate have something to do with that? If so, now here there is a person who was able to take advantage of the many taxpayer funded advantages granted to state union workers who granted, worked hard and spent the necessary years to get a great retirement, but then as soon as they can leave the state while taking the taxpayers that are still trapped there's tax money for their retirement? Is it any wonder that liberal controlled state is in such dire straights.
You must lead a miserable life...
Marvin K. Mooney Yeah, I bet he's real fun at partys 🙄
What's wrong with that? He didn't have anything to do with the passages of these laws. And he is retired putting up with cry babies like you for 25 years.
Many people leave CA. I left CA at 18
The car was too small and dangerous.
Too bad they were junk massive over heating problems
The car was too small and dangerous.
For who?
