Man when I was in high school these were so bad ass. Riding with my parents I’d see one and go nuts waving with a huge smile and thumbs up. Most of the time the officers would wave back then punch it. So damn cool.
Growing up, I had the headlight/marker signature of the Diplomat in my rear view burned into my psyche. To me, when I hear “police car” that’s the shape that pops up in my head. Remember the unmarked Diplomats- they were always brown or metallic light green or light blue, but with those steeliest and dog-dish center caps, they just screamed UNDERCOVER COP. Those were so cool.
We may have something similar in our collection! Daryl is pretty bonkers for old police cars. So you may see more of these traumatic cars on the channel.
Wow. This is amazing. Beautiful vehicle & restoration. Absolutely love it. I have a 1988 Washington State Patrol SSP. It still has the spotlight, roof antenna, and flashlight mount. It also has a T handle mouted under the dash that can adjust the idle. There is a switch and a couple jewel lights in the dash as well. I look forward to doing some restoration work in the future. Thank you for the amazing content.
I have not so fond memories of cruising down the 405 going a little too fast and seeing one of these Mustangs come up behind me. Heart rate would shoot through the roof and then they’d fly by going after faster prey. Beautiful restoration!
Thank you so much! This Mustang will not be chasing you down. Unless you want to drive the Florida State Trooper car at the track while Daryl drives the CHP!?
Gotta be honest I have zero interest in mustangs and old US police cars but I still enjoyed this vid after giving it a shot as I’ve liked your other projects. That’s one clean restoration and the paint looks phenomenal.
Thank you for giving this project a shot. We have our hearts and interests in many different types of builds and we just want to share this with all of you. Thank you again for checking it out!
Love the Car - own a 1993 FHP 93 SSP that we restored to original - looks a lot like yours - had a great starting car like yours. 114K miles - can't wait to see your FHP shoot out. Nice job again.
They look 👍. I live in the UK and loved watching CHIPS and TJ Hucker. USA police car alway look mega. Over the UK police cars. Glad you are saving them.
We are glad you liked the cars. We do our best to share these builds with you and so glad to see even those of you without a direct connection to them still checking out the videos. Thank you!
I'm from South Africa and your cop cars don't mean much to me, nevertheless a great video. Thanks. Appreciate it. Appreciate all you're hard work doing it.
These vehicles are a passion project for Daryl (mostly - but we all enjoy a quality build). They aren't for everyone but most of our builds are not. They all have something in common however, sharing our love and appreciation for all things car and motor culture. We are glad you enjoyed it despite your lack of interest. It means a lot to us you would even watch it at all! Thank you .
Didn’t think I’d like this episode, but you never disappoint! It was neat learning about your past as an officer (thank you for your service). Maybe another, more in-depth, video on how you got started could be done? Also, any Datsun’s in the shop?
Really enjoyed the rotisserie restoration of the 88’ CHP car. Daryl during the video it was noted the young restorer employed an addition of rear disc brake. In your spare time is it possible for list parts he used? Thank you keep up the great videos saving these cars👍
I have a 90 chp. Also sold by Ron DuPratt Ford in Dixon (BTW ive heard a bunch of norcal ssp's were also sold by Ed Chovanes Ford in San Leandro). It was salvaged while still in service in 1993. Unit number 9513. It was all black when i got it in 2007. I abused the heck out it all over the east bay area streets then. I put 3.73 gears in it, UPR tubular k member, UPR A arms and front coil overs on it sometime around 2010. It came with the old version of the bbk rear control arms (i want to say late 90s/ early 00's era). Cut stock rear coils to lower the ride height. KYB AGX struts and shocks. In around 2011 i tore the torque boxes so badly that I actually tore the spot welds around the spare tire area. At the time i had no fab skillset so i hired some of the welders who built the new bay bridge to make me new torque boxes and made me a new floor board from the rear seats to the spare tire area. They also did custom full length subframe connectors. Now i live in northern Nevada and got back into working on the car after sitting for 12 years or so. I decided to get it running to cruise around Hot August Nights 2023 and ive been going strong ever since. Fall of 23 my son and i pulled the motor and went through the stock bottom and reassembled it with gt40p heads, explorer intake, comp cams 281hr magnum camshaft, scorpion 1.6 rockers, 24 lb injectors, 70mm throttle body, 75mm MAF calibrated for the injectors, bbk shorties, bbk offroad x, RAM billet flywheel and centerforce clutch. In early spring of 2024 I bought 94-95 full front splindle brake setup off a kid in Vallejo and converted to 5 lug. I used Summit racing brand (local) 5 lug 28 spline axles and ford ranger drums to make the rear 5 lug. I found a like new set of 18x9 Saleen replicas with decent tires in Oakland for an amazing price. So thats the wheels it sits on now. In July i prepped and painted the car in blue pearl. It almost looks like candy paint, but its a 2 stage that is easy to match and repair. Finished it within a month, just in time for Hot August Nights 2024. This winter my goal is to restore the interior and reinstall some subtle CHP parts. Spotlights, wig wag etc. I would love some help sourcing some CHP specific stuff so it ultimately looks like a custom notchback, that is undeniably a CHP SSP. I would love to pick your brain as well as the guy who did all the work on your car; he seems like an encyclopedia of knowledge. Great looking car, thanks for the inspiration.
Thank you for sharing a little history on your build. If you reach out to us on IG we may be able to help you a bit more with some of the specifics. We'd also love to see your build. Thanks!
I'm from Utah and also a police officer, UHP had some of these notchback 5.0's in the late 80's early 90's. I wish I could find one but they are even harder to find since there were not very many of them due to having snow in Utah, but I've saw some restored ones they are awesome
Ah nice! Thank you for your service. Daryl says he likes the hatchback but has a special spot in his heart for the notch. Good luck with your project and if you're following us on IG tag us in your project we would love to see it!
Pretty sure those spotlights came from my dad and I here in Oregon, he put a set up on ebay a couple years ago. Glad to see they went on something of excellence! If you need any info or help finding any future CHP stuff, let us know, we have the largest collection of retired CHP vehicles.
How awesome! Thank you for reaching out! We appreciate the hand and actually have a couple things in the works we may need your help with if you don't mind. Shoot us an email at info@justdriven.com or DM us on IG @justdriven please! Thank you so much!
This car was in most of our high school nightmares! Seeing these things in your rearview was not fun! But it's part of the reason we love them so much today.
Hey Daryl, any leads on a vehicle like that for sale or where to search for one for sale ? I’m from Canada so I guess that really lowers my chances of finding one, right. Daryl Estrada was priceless ! Thx
Haha thanks! I actually know where there is an original CHP SSP EVOC training car, still in its original Black & White paint. PM me on IG or DM here and I’ll get you contact info.
We have been mostly collecting parts for the build. It's a bit of a slow process often times when trying to acquire many of the electronics. We haven't really planned an update till we get more of the parts installed. Not much has changed.
My first car in high school was a 78 dodge Monaco retired highway intercper 440 That could pass anything on the road except for a gas station. I loved that car. But I would love to be able to find an ssp mustang or a retired hp diplomat
I JUST HAPPENED TO HAVE THE CHANCE TO EXPERIENCE BEING STRAPPED IN THE PASSENGER SEAT OF ONE OF THESE NEW YORK STATE HIGHWAY PATROL 5 SPEED CARS FOR DRIVING 96MPH IN A 55 MPH ZONE .. TROOPER STRAPPED ME IN AND DROVE ME TO SEE THE JUDGE AT HIS HOME ON A SUNDAY! JUDGE CAME DOWN AND DONNED HIS ROBE AND ASKED HOW MUCH CASH I HAD IN MY POCKET. I SAID $250 AND HE SAID BOND SET $249. PAID THE MAN AND GOT A RIDE BACK 10MILES TO MY CAR WERE MY FAMILY WAS WAITING AT SPEEDS OVER 100mph !!!
As an automobile historian, I really appreciate your attention to detail and focus on authenticity. Cool cars these classic Police cruisers 👍
Much appreciated!
Man when I was in high school these were so bad ass. Riding with my parents I’d see one and go nuts waving with a huge smile and thumbs up. Most of the time the officers would wave back then punch it. So damn cool.
They are very iconic. It's part of why we are drawn to them.
Brings back memories, Washington State Patrol almost always had their mid eighties SSP at the Puyallup fair, as a kid in the 90s i loved seeing it.
Thank you for sharing! Most of us here have similar fond memories. Some of us have some traumatic ones too!

What is Jason’s information in Riverside who restores Fox-bodies ?
Jason does it again. Great looking car.
He sure did! Thank you.
You guys do phenomenal work!
Thank you so much for your kind words.
Jason never disappoints. Always looking for perfection
He is a craftsman!

Thank you so much. We are still gathering up some parts for the lights. The decals are ready to go on to match out Florida SSP.

Heck yeah! I’ll rep the East coast in the FLA Mustang!

That's awesome. I have a 93 CHP Mustang that's been sitting in my garage for the last two years. One day I'm going to restore her.
Nice! It wouldn't hurt to keep an eye out on parts in the meantime. They are getting much harder to find!

Thank you and we recommend holding on dearly!

Awesome work guys! Looks amazing.
PS still looking forward to the 959 project 🙃
There are a few more things to get finished before we can dive into the 959.

I enjoy this channel he deserves more subs. I’m 46 I don’t want antics.
We all appreciate the support! Thank you so much! We try to avoid them but RUclips tends to reward all that silliness.

This is my highschool dream car.

Man closest thing to perfection, great job!! What is Jason's shop name? Thinking of maybe taking my 93' svt cobra, is completely stock.
He is just working on his own. There is no shop name. Send us a DM on Instagram and maybe we can link the two of you up! @JustDriven

@@JustDriven I messaged you on IG
I love cars like that with a supercharger I have to put a 308 gear in anything
Daryl loves these things too. The supercharger whine is addicting!
I found a 88 San Jose ssp car where I can find that California legal supercharger?
That’s a tough one. We lucked out and got ours from someone who had it and never installed it. I would start with EBay and just keep an eye out.
Matt Farah bought his too. Lol
We saw that!
What ever happened to this car and a follow up video thanks for keeping the old ones out of the crusher
We have been mostly collecting parts for the build. It's a bit of a slow process often times when trying to acquire many of the electronics. We haven't really planned an update till we get more of the parts installed. Not much has changed.
Just got an SSP Texas Trooper yesterday!! I’m in the SF Bay Area.. where is Jason located ?
Congratulations on the new SSP! Jason is located in the Inland Empire.
Lucky you
Yes i love cop car's American is my favorite my dream car is the ford crown vic 2000-11
We love the Crown Vics too!
i will like one
Are you currently building one? Or you'd like us to build one for you?
@JustDrii how much is your SSP worth?
My first car in high school was a 78 dodge Monaco retired highway intercper 440
That could pass anything on the road except for a gas station. I loved that car. But I would love to be able to find an ssp mustang or a retired hp diplomat
We have a couple Diplos floating around here too! You aren't round about the 440 passing gas stations.
I have a 1992 chp. Looking to fix it up. Please help
Hit us up on Instagram. Just send us a DM and we would be happy to lend a hand.
Car was an 81 Dodge diplomat but mine was with an inline 6
Ooooo...Nice!
Can you help with a crown victoria build?
We've had a couple inquiries about the Crown Vic lately. What are the specs on the Crown Vic?
I am looking for correct equipment and position of lights ,I also build 1/18 scale police cars with lights and siren
We will check with Daryl and see what he can dig up for you.
Thanks ,do you have a more direct method of communication ,email etc .
info @ justdriven dot com
Being you have a controller in your possession, from the Diplomat. Couldn't you take it apart and have someone reverse engineer it, for the mustang
Good idea. We might have to look around for someone capable.
what is the value before the restoration I have a 88 ssp detective car ….?
It seriously all depends on condition
It run it has the correct spotlight’s 140 speedo with tilt steering with ac 308 rear diff radio delete 5speed
@@salvadorrodriguez2725 if the body and interior is nice and no signs of previous damage, it’s probably worth 15K “ish”
Also I have all the paperwork clean title ex San Jose ssp thanks for your help 🙏🏽
Did you have the antenna for my 88 ex chp for sale?
There’s a company in Chicago that make the original
Yup!
That us a exceptional restoration, but the wheels dont look restored to the same level as the rest of the car. Never the less well done.
Thank you so much.
What does it look like now is it completed .
Still not completed. Daryl works on this from time to time. Getting all the lights and smaller details situated.

Can you sale me the antenna whip base and deck lights to finish my 88 ex chp fox body……?
