- Disabling/removing the failed immobilizer in a 2000 Honda Accord. Mainly just explaining what I did since i didn't film the removal. This is normally a hard one to diagnose if you don't know what to look for. The security light flashing is normally the biggest indicator.
I actually had these problems back in 2014 with the '99 Accord LX I used to have. Came out one morning and it wouldn't start. It had a weird intermittent issue with the immobilizer system under the dash somewhere. With no reference at the time I took out the ecu and opened it up. Reading the board I found immo #1 where that chip was. I had nothing to loose so I popped the chip off and it worked for me. Afterwards I had many crooked shops tell me "you cant do that it messes with your transmission" I never had transmission issues and I passed that car to my best friend when I moved shortly after. That car has saved 2 lives so far and still running strong on the same ecu. Thank you for making this video for the community.
Yeah, shops will tell you anything to get your money. They don't like when people do things themselves or know how to do it on their own.
How did you open it up mine is just c shaped after taking all 8 out on both sides and it looks like there is more deep insixe of it
@@Randaljoness Not sure what you mean. For 1989 to 2004 they should have phillips head screws on both sides. You take all of them out and the case should come open. Pics?
Would this work on my 07accord
@@johnnymartinez5934 I have no idea. I know it works for 1998-2004 Accords for sure. I don't know if they changed the logic of the system by 2007. If it was in front of me I'd take the cover off the computer and look around for an immo labeled chip. If there is one I'd make sure to have a backup ecu around from a junkyard/ebay just incase before I removed or desoldered the chip.
Thanks for the awesome video! Was stranded away from home for 2 days after losing my chipped key, thanks to your video I was able to start my car & get home!!
No problem. Glad that it helped.
Thanks a lot for this! It was a pain in the ass to get the ECU out but I was able to just bend and pop the chip out and now no more issues. Should have gotten my car smogged first though because now I need to get that emulator so I can get the check engine light to go away. The joys of living in California.
Take the bulb out of the cluster gauges
Quick update. I eventually was able to find the ECU in my British Model 2001 Honda Accord. FYI Its located in the central console under the radio - important to note it is accessed via the passenger and driver side footwells (pull back the carpet to reveal the cables and the bolts.) I tried to desolder the chip but the joints were just too minute so I ended up twisting the chip back and forth until it came off. (I don't recommend this method but hey it worked for me.) Initially the car started ran for a second and then died. Subsequent restarts failed until I hit on the idea of pressing down on the gas all the way to the floor. Boom! It started up and continued to run. Haven't been out in it yet so can't confirm that it will run ok but this is a promising start. Thanks again to you for posting this. Awesome!
Hi. I have an ecu of the accord type r from 1999, and according to the images it has this same immobilizer. my ecu is a 37820-PDE-E01 ... I wanted to see if it was the same model as your ecu ...
Just used this video today and i gotta say thank you very much. I lost my keys just yesterday and i needed my car for work and i had made a copy of my key a couple years ago and this really saved me some time and headache. For sure not a permanent fix but it is a fantastic fix at that
Great to hear! Glad that it helped get you by.
Dude you're a blessing in disguise, I went as far as taking my same year accord to the dealership and they told me that they couldn't get a reading on my immobilizer as far as why it was communicating to the ecu.. Had the same issue with that blinking green light on the cluster, now I know that I can remove the chip in the ecu to get the green light off so that I can start my car been like three weeks since I've driven her.. Thanks for the info you're a life saver.
@@rolandorodriguez9662 hope it worked out for you
IT STARTED! Thanks and great video! Worked for my 1999 Accord. Didn’t realize right away that the green key light kept blinking. Replaced distributor and fuel pump first and had no luck.....probably needed it anyways.
Good to know that it worked out for you. Now go fishing!
@@DIYAUTOCAR haha I did. I was starting to get the shakes.
This worked for me too! Thanks so much for the video! Took me 50 minutes start to finish. My issue with the car was a little different- intermittent no start once a month for 6 months then permanent no start. Motor would crank. Motor would fire with starting fluid going into the intake. Fuel going to the fuel rail. Basically the only thing not working was the fuel injectors. Green key was flashing on the dash. I de-soldered the chip from the security chip instead of from the board like you did. Doing it this way left posts to solder the emulator to if I decide to. The check engine light did not come on after doing this.
I'm glad that it worked out for you.
What car do you have? So, you desoldered the stock chip and left the immobi board in the stock ECU, and it fixed your no-start?
2 weeks ago I lost my original key that was programmed and i had a spare key that would turn on the car but wouldn’t start it, I did exactly what you told me to do in this video and boom, the car started... THANKYOU SOO MUCH❤️
I'm glad it helped.
you just took out the chip but key in and worked....i wish mine worked
Have you Information How to Connect the Board to the Ecu? All Pins or only some ?
Thanks! You the man saved my ass a big headache!!
I'm glad it helped!
It works!! I own a 98 Accord LX Omg I spent weeks messing with my car and I don't know a damn thing about them. I was willing to learn tho so I tried researching about the key lighting up. I bought a new fuel pump and a new distributor thingy hell I even went to the dealership and got that 5 digit brake code and still no go. I did what you said in the video and my ride started right up!! Thank you for sharing
I'm glad that it helped!
I have a 2001 honda accord....do u have the green light on befor u start car after taking the chip out?thks
the security light
Worked for me, thanks a million man!
I've been going crazy pulling my hair out and firing the parts canon. Replaced fuel pump because I'm pretty sure I needed to do that anyway, replaced crank sensor I'm pretty sure needlessly, was about to consider replacing injectors once I discovered they weren't firing. Spent some time and money I didn't need to, I didn't even know a 98 Honda had an RFID key system.
Spent 10 minutes this morning to pull the ECU and pop that sucker off the board and my car started on the first try.
I'm glad it helped!
Is a 98 the same as a 2001 acord
@@jacoblosh7479 As far as I understand it should work on specifically the 98-02 models, all Hondas except for the Prelude so yeah yours should be the same exact one.
@@jacoblosh7479 I think the 01 ECU is under the passenger floorboard near where their feet would go. If it's not under that mat, it'll be right behind and under the radio, you can access it by a plastic panel. It mounts directly onto the floor with I think just a single bolt, prolly 10mm.
Just be careful, some of the screws on the ECU case on mine broke off and I ended up bending the cover to get to the circuit board. Go easy on the screws, a tiny bit of WD-40 wouldn't hurt it. I guess they're not really intended to be opened and closed multiple times.
You should explain to people that it will work if this is the problem but that the check engine light will be on and you'll have the code for circuit short on the scanner so you must get the bypass chip to fix it. Meanwhile you can use your car until it comes in.. Thanks for the video and I just ordered the chip from eBay.
I'm pretty sure that I did mention this in the video. I'm glad that it could help in some way.
He explicitly explained both those things in that order, at the end of the video.
I have a 2000 model accord its not v6 just 4 cylinder. Will this work for me.
Diy Auto Carage. You are the man.
I just did this on my 1998 Honda Accord. And it worked perfect. The original issue was the chip in the key quit working or the transponder in ignition switch quit working. Regardless Its working now. Thank you so very much for this video.
No problem. I'm glad that it worked out.
Did you jus take the chip out or did u take I out and ad the other chip?
Thank you you god damn saint my girlfriend dropped my keys in to a fire and burned away chip and I’ve watched 100000 videos and you are the only one option that gave me my answer
Well, I'm glad it helped.
Thanks SO much for this video. I spent like 6 hours Sunday night after getting towed home trying to figure this out since my car wouldn’t start with any of my keys and the blinking green light. I just removed the immobilizer chip and the car starts perfectly. I found a place to buy a “mobilizer” so my check engine light will go off and I can read codes again but I will have to do a little reading on such delicate soldering. I have a lot of experience soldering guitar stuff but nothing this small (I just bent the immobilizer chip out since I couldn’t figure out how to desolder it without potentially hurting the board. But at least now I can drive again. I have had serious car problems with other cars in the past but this was the most frustrating since it happened out of nowhere and the car was fine but it just wouldn’t let me start it even with the right keys.
No problem. I'm glad it worked out for you.
Paul Hofreiter so all u did was just took it off and it started??
DIYAutoCarage
Would this cause no spark with the spark plugs
I've performed the removal and it resolved my start issues. Looking to install the immobilizer bypass chip now because not sure if the brake lights issue I'm having now is related to removal or not, just want to remove it as a possibility and be able to read codes again. Need for 2001 Honda Accord. Did you ever install and if so where did you purchase from? Also does it come with pin connector bracket?
Thanks for the video! my experience on a 98 accord 4 cyl was a success with just bending and breaking the oem chip out to get the car to run. I will also state that my obd2 port works fine also. I do have to wait a second or 2 with the ignition on before cranking it before it will fire. Also, i get a code from the ecm p1607 (internal ecm malfunction) which will always be there, which in turn gives you a CEL. I may get a immo chip to put in if i left enough pin to solder too, also in hopes to be able to crank it over without waiting a second or 2 before cranking. Thanks again, was really easy and bailed me out.
Glad to hear that it worked out for you!
Am have the same problems with my wife's car... I bought the immo emulator already... But was wondering if you did a second vid of you installing the emulator... I just want to knew which side is the right side to install the emulator on...
Same here!
Worked for me! 99 Accord 2.3L, pretty easy job all said and done. Thank you so much!!
Great to hear!
@@DIYAUTOCAR Any idea on how to solder in the emulator?
@@Simyonez2 I never actually ended up doing it. We just left it as is and the car has been running fine. If you're not comfortable with it I would take it to an electronics shop or maybe even a phone repair place and have them do it. It would be an easy job for them.
When u remove the chip does it have to be unsoldered from bottom to the top
Hi, you said in the video you purchased a new Honda Accord Immobilizer chip from China coming in a week. Can you tell me where you found one and its approximate cost? Thank You.
This definitely worked as well for me but the only issue I’m facing is that the anti theft hazard lights keep flashing
I’m having the exact same issue , my alarm won’t stop going off , have you since solved this issue ??
Great post, saved me a lot of money and got the car back on the road, just waiting for the emulator chip, thanks, just a couple of points, the interior lights work manually but they no longer come on when you open the doors!, are they connected to a circuit from the chip i took out? also the fob doesn,t work either so i presume that would be connected to the immobiliser circuit and chip?
All of that still works on the car that we did this on. None of that should be affected by the removal of the chip.
I need help, I removed the 8pin chip in my dad's 1998 Renault and still it only cranks.
hello. did you install the new board with the components facing inside the ecu?
I have a 1999 Honda Accord two door it starts sometimes and sometimes it doesn’t start sometimes it’ll show the green light on the dash once or twice in the car will start sometimes it doesn’t show the key at all and it doesn’t start it started up for me the other day but ever since that I haven’t been able to restart it again so if I remove that chip from the ECU the car will start? I really need your advice and your help much appreciated thank you. I forgot to say it’s a 5 speed transmission
Super late reply. It is worth a try but if you are worried about damaging your ECU, you can go get a junkyard one for pretty cheap and pull it out of that one and then put that ECU in. That way you don't damage yours. Depending on the Junkyard, they can sell for pretty cheap.
❤ it work for my 2002 Honda Accord I had the same problem
when you take out the chip from computer, why does the security light still come on the dash left hand side.2001 honda accord ex????????? help.if the light does not come on i cant start car...
Wait you need to install a chip??
OBDII and Check engline light should not come on if soldered correctly. You might have a blown fuse for the OBDII or crossed a solder joint in the ECU
When I filmed this quick clip I had not soldered in the immo chip yet.
can i do in honda crv 2006 Matick K24. what chips code should i replace from the old ECU?
Hey bro do I have to install a new chip at all because I'm about to remove it and leave it removed I don't care about the ECU or the thing I just really need my car started I'm stuck here in the parking lot
You don't have to install the chip. We actually never ended up installing it and th car has been fine ever since. If that is actually what your issue is then you should be fine.
I have 2005 Honda Accord EX. Got ECU out but not sure which chip to remove.
None in that car. Totally different
Did this with my S2000 today, easy to do, car is running albeit with engine light on. Will get the emulator board to fix that. Thanks for your info.
Good to know that worked for that car also.
Jon did you ever get the immo chip installed
Did it have the same exact ecu?
Yes, installed the emulator board and everything works normally. Its the standard s2000 ecu.
I have a 2000 Honda Accord v6 I took my ecu out and it’s the brown one instead of the green one. Does anybody have the part number of the ecu I could do this with that’s compatible with the v6 model
So I pulled the chip from my 01 civic (it looks exactly the same as your Honda Accord) it kept cranking. I watched your video again and you said to wait 3 seconds before I turn over. I will let you know if this method works on 01-05 civics
I doubt that it was the same.
Do you have a video of installing the emulator
Fixed my ride. Thank you
Your a fucking genius I've been dealing with this 2002 Honda Accord 2.3 for over a month now. Transmission started acting terrible after warmed up slipping false neutral shifting hard you name it. Put it in neutral shut it off and turned it back on acted fine. Turned out to be ecm got one out of junk yard for $20 did this trick works great
I'm glad that it could help.
It turns out that in some cases it is NOT the computer it is the "transponder" ring on the ignition switch. A small wire plugs into that to both power it and to communicate that it had read the ignition key chip. The transponder itself does not care WHAT chip it is reading, it just reads whatever chip, whatever key is held close to it, and reports the "code" of that chip to the ECU. The ECU immobilizer is looking for a SPECIFIC key code, if the transponder doesn't communicate the correct "chip in the key", the ECU won't fire the injectors. Solution? Buy a new, or used, ignition switch, it will come with its own key and will have a transponder on it. REMOVE the transponder from the "new/used" ignition switch and replace the old transponder on your ORIGINAL ignition switch. Only two small screws, piece of cake swapping them out. You use your original key and the "new/used" transponder will communicate THAT original key code to the computer. Here's the clue to look for if you THINK the transponder is cutting out or not giving a good communication to the ECU consistently. The green key security light will be dim, or flash weirdly WHEN YOU ARE CRANKING THE ENGINE. Typically, the security light goes out just fine when you simply turn the key to ON. It flashes, dimly or brightly, one or two times, or intermittently when CRANKING the STARTER over. Thats how you know the transponder on the ignition switch is the real issue. Then again, remove the immobilizer and any key will work, but you can't read any codes either!
Did you ever make a part two vid after you installed the immo chip?
No, we never even did it. Car has been running fine though.
I need a new ECU. If i desolder the immobilizer and apply it to the new ECU, can i use the same key? (i have a 99 accord)
Yes, that should work as long as you don't damage the immobilizer chip when doing so.
I'd like to confirm it works. Thanks!
So if i did a h23a/f20b jdm swap and have the ecu ,the immobilizer can be swapped ?

That is unfortunate.
Quick question, if i do not have the original key nor a spare would this work with a ungraved key from walmart like you said? Because i tried with multiple different car keys even a honda civic key and doesnt even want to turn.
You would still need a key that is cut for the car.

Personally I would just like to gt my car running again asap but don't want to yank that chip prematurely.
Yes, removing the chip will allow the car to start IF the issue that you are having is immobilizer related. The OBD2 port will no longer work if you have the chip removed. But, if you buy the emulator chip, then you can use the OBD2 port again. That is why we went with the emulator chip.

Did you figure it out? Getting up in the morning to figure my 98 accord out. Also no key.
So if i have a 2nd ecu. Can i just swap both immobilizers, to the one want to use on my honda?
Theoretically, that should work. I haven't actually tried that so I can't say for sure from experience.
@@DIYAUTOCAR Hey. Just so you know and for others. It did work. Swapping mobilizer. Thank you
The ECU in my 2000 Accord EX, V6 coupe looks considerably different from the image of yours. My circuit board is brown in color (and actually not a "board" but ribbon cable-like material), not green, and does not have any immobilizer-looking component similar to yours. Any ideas? Thanks a lot for the great video!
Where did you find the ECU in your car? Can you share a picture?
I have the same ecu with the brown ribbon board, could really use some help here
@@DIYAUTOCAR did the guy you're replying to ever send you a picture of the one he's got because I have the same ECU I pulled out of my car Brown like ribbon on both sides not a green board I found mine underneath the center console hold the back the carpet on each side's
Did yu ever get a solution in trying to as well
@trevyrackzz8171 Never found anything to bypass or emulate the immobilizer. I ended up using the immobilizer brake code after getting it from the service desk at my local dealership. They shared it at no cost.
Hey I removed the immobilizer chip from de ecu and still no crank no start . What else could I do?
It's a 2001 accord
It could be a number of things. It's hard to say without being there and seeing it.
Thanks for everything
By no crank, do you mean that the engine does not even spin when you turn the key? Or do you simply mean that it does not turn on but keeps spinning?
@@DIYAUTOCAR i have the same issue, where is this chip located
So after you remove the immobilizer from ecu and replace it with the other chip will the original keys work for the car
Yes, they will work even without the immobilizer.
I’ve pulled the ECU on my 1999 Honda Accord, but it looks different and I don’t see that same immobilizer chip. Do you have any advice? Would it be in a different location in the 99s?
Follow up question: when you say ECU do you mean the ECM which is the box on the floor behind the centre console? Or the ECU which is behind the steering wheel? Thanks.
i have a question im having the same issues wondering should i get new ecu from junkyard to try this ( and will it work with a different ecu from same year make n model 2000 honda accord ) or will it not work with another ecu and just use the one i have on the car now
Yeah, it will work with a junkyard ECU from the same car if you remove the chip. That's a good way to narrow down that it is your issue instead of pulling the chip out of your ECu.
do you have to install the emulator chip after de soldering???
Yes, if you want the check engine light to go off and to be able to use the obd2 port for diagnostics.
Does this method work on 01 civic? Did check the ecu on my car but doesnt have like the chip on yours...
I do not believe that this works on your civic.
worked my car was down for weeks then i seen this had to try something
Glad to hear that it worked out for you.
How did you get the emulator chip?
What could be my issue if I have a crank no start with no green key light at all?
The light never comes on at all at any point?
DIYAutoCarage I have the same problem but it will start sometimes
@Micha Drake it's the fuel injector sensory up under the driver side you need to change it or unplug it the reset the sensory just look up fuel injector sonsory location on 2000 Honda odyssey
@@tristanmason70 im having the same issue on 2002 civic ex, no green light at all
@@DIYAUTOCAR my 02 civic ex is doing this, no green light, except about once a day for the first week, i know weird, and now for the last 4 days no green light at all
eBay won't let you order it through there site anymore.... Do u have an address or link
