JP 151 also come out near the end of the waifu bubble (Erika SAR was around $300 (usd) around release now dropped to $100-90 now). So the set definitely got the waifu hype boost to maintain the crazy prices for this long and held it as soon as people slowly shifted to Master Balls.
My personal distributor told me about the price drop almost 2 weeks ago and I grabbed some myself. Now is the time to buy jp 151, prices will go right back up after the reprint.
Not really because LGS, Investors, Purchased 151 Top Dollars, over 200 dollars, so now they are stuck with a lot of inventory, and if sold now LGS, Investors will. Take a Big loss. It will take time, but not at the same level,
even if there’s a reprint…151 is just so iconic that 10-20 years from now people would still be searching for this set…it’s like a modern day base set 😅 like 151 is gen z/alphas base set
Late to the party but managed to get my hands on 50+ JPN 151 booster packs while over here on holidays. Booster boxes and etbs were non existant in the 7 pokemons centers I went to throughout Japan.
i would say given the volatility of the Japanese products and their reprint policies into the obvilion, I will stay with my English while investing in a bit of japanese
I was not able to get more than 2 boxes of these Japanese 151 reprint. any idea if there will be more coming out in future as it is out of stock everywhere and price is sky rocketing
Here is the difference...it's cheaper to buy japanese singles than the english version. I couldn't get a decently priced full art Blastoise and Venusaur english version...so, I took a short cut in my 151 Master Set by getting the Japanese full art Blastoise and Venusaur (all the rest are English). Don't misconstrue my comment. It is what it is. Generally, the English 151 singles are more expensive than the Japanese cards. Nothing wrong with collecting either sets. I just originally wanted to collect my set from the same series. But the English singles are really cost prohibitive now, so I took a short cut in my 151 master set. Doing the same thing now for my latest project (collecting the 1st 45 (yeah, not 48, just 1 per character) holos (base/fossil/jungle), and I am combining english and japanese cards. I just want the art.
I regretted not investing in this set. Also the English version is difficult to invest in when your options are booster bundles, upc and ETBs. I am going to try to pick some of these up during the reprint but I want to see if I can purchase through the Pokémon center in Japan rather than go through a third party. Not sure if it’s possible though.
@@phillips.collectibles yep and they are difficult to ship. I keep looking at the Charizard UPC and I know the 151 is in a different bracket because it’s the best way to get the most packs, but it’s hard to invest when the Charizard box hasn’t moved much in 2 years.
For the first time I saw 151 ETB at target and there was 4 of em. Took 2. Went back to leave a morpeko CZ box and the other 2 got picked up leaving none. Those 151 etbs are pancakes just get em. There was plenty of paradox rift and temporal forces etbs but again 151 they go fast. My son pulled a blastiose man we were happy.
I was going to try collect the japanese 151 set once the prices come down since I can't find any English stock in shops and I refuse to pay the booster bundle prices
I still think that Japan cards are going to do better then English in the long run. Not just the 151 but also other sets. Japan is the origin of Pokemon plus like you said the quality of the cards is better. Holding both tho 😅
@@Pokemo-er1qphonestly think about evee heroes it was the same thing that happened and ppl sold for cheaper because of the reprint then when the reprint happened ppl bought times of it and held the market just like they did when 151 first came out . Cleaner english hits will be worth more as quality is generally worse, also no god packs in english very hard pull rates ,english is better to collect fact if you are looking at future value
I think I’ll wait till May. Thankfully in Australia our Japanese sets are usually pretty affordable. Are there any particular favourite cards from 151 you’re on the lookout for?
@phillips.collectibles yeah man, that sounds like the safest bet. Little riskier here in the USA, these Japanese sets can sometimes run away quickly. 😄 like with Eevee Heroes, we didn't see much of a cool down with those reprints, but hey, could be different! I'd love to get thr SIR trio in English, maybe get the Giovanni as well!
I’m sorry but are you not gna mention how Japanese supply of cards will far exceed the English cards in the future? IMO that naturally will make English a better investment as it is in other English counterparts to Asians of TCG
I recently got back into Pokemon content, so I was confused about news of 151 reprints. Thank you for this elaboration. Pretty clear video!
No problem awesome to hear you enjoyed the content!

I'm kind of new to TCG. Can you distinguish between the first print issue and reprint?
No not really. Pokémon ended 1st editions for English sets a long time ago, and they ended in 2016 for Japanese.

the Japanese version, I bought a box and 10 to 15 holo cards came with printing lines, very poor quality control.
That’s unfortunate. I have noticed some JPN sets reduce quality to meet demand with the new JPN interest.

Yeah English kind of sucks in that regard. No one wants to store UPC’s in their home. They are massive!

I think for 151 where they add those special flares like Masterball Reverse Holos they will. In general I’m not too sure, though they may!
Waiting until the dust settles.
Will you be picking one up in May?
For sure! At least we will have a better idea what the real price is.

Are the reprints only for Japan?
At this stage yes. But English is still at retail price.
Ah, I can’t seem to find it anywhere
Is there a Englisch reprint also?
No, but English is still available at retail so it wouldn’t be that big of an event. Japanese was sky high prices.

In terms of PSA 10? Historically bad quality control makes PSA 10s be very high value. Like evolutions Charizard!
