Seeing all those foils Pringle at the end broke my heart! You were on the right track, though, it's a moisture problem between the foil printing and the card stock. There are ways to fix it!! The best way is with moisture regulation packs for cigars, weird as hell solution, but it does work! You'll want to aim for 62% moisture level, whatever the proper term is. I'm a Magic player and while I've experienced the curling before, I've yet to try the cigar pack solution. I hope you can get them all fixed up, James!!
I haven't bought pokémon cards since gen 1, but I bought these boosters as a spur of the moment thing and I REALLY like the art on these cards. I gave away all of my old pokémon cards at some point, and I regret that now, but this felt like a good way to get back at having a collection again, and since I bought the Japanese ones it feels like it's a bit more "fresh" and different from anything I had before.

@@watchinyoutube8919 applin and dipplin were in the 8th generation of Pokémon. They’re both based on apples. Applin being a normal apple and dipplin being a dipped apple.
Pretty spot on with the curving! Humidity differences between the factory and your location, the cardboard expands as it absorbs water in the air but the plastic foiling does so it warps them. Putting them in the binder will help but the only "proper" way to fix it is with desiccant packs to change the humidity and then double sleeving them to keep ambient humidity out

It’s humidity and differences in surface tension between the cardboard and foil layers that causing the bending.
You could keep them in air-tight containment but honestly it’s not worth the trouble. The only people who really care are investors and speculators and honestly, fuck ‘em.
Surface tension is a property of liquids, not solids. James' guess that it's differential thermal expansion is probably closer.

to explain the dark types: in tcg there are 10 types; colorless (normal, flying), fire, grass (grass, bug), water (water, ice), electric, fighting (fighting, rock, ground), dark (dark, poison), metal (steel), psychic (psychic, ghost, fairy), and dragon. they did experiment with adding fairy type to tcg separately in x and y, but ultimately it proved cheaper/easier/better in some way to combine it with psychic. in previous generations up to (i think) sword and shield, poison was represented by the psychic type, which is why it seemed odd so many previously tcg psychic type pokemon had swapped to tcg dark type
Adding on to this to say that TCG Psychic was itself a replacement for TCG Grass to represent Poison type. TCG Psychic didn't represent Poison until Diamond and Pearl

James I'm sorry to say you've discovered the joys foil trading cards. Leave them outside in any sort of weather that's too hot or too cold (like Adelaide atm) and you'll end up with pringles. Some foils are better than others but Colgate foils like Pokemon tend to be pretty bad.
To answer some questions
EX is pronounced as the individual letters, not as a word. Eee-Ex.
While some Pokemon have been re-typed in the games, mostly a bunch of normal types gaining the fairy typing tcg typing is... weird and different. The reason the poison type pokemon that are dark type in this set is likely down to the team simply believing that it suits Poison type better than the Psychic type.
First Editions no longer exist.
A number higher than the set number just indicates some sort of higher rarity. I don't play enough Pokemon TCG to have it memorised so I can't be more help. But basically if it has a higher set number or multiple stars it's a rarer card. That does not mean it holds more value however.
Actually to clarify, (competitive player here) poison was somewhat recently entirely recategorized into dark for the tcg going forwards. This is a dual purpose function to both allow for a bit more interesting options for weakness balancing, and to also better balance the amount of cards per set each type can get, as psychic has historically been really dense and dark lacking.

Tangela does evolve; its evolution is called Tangrowth, but it wasn't introduced until Gen IV (not counting the unused prevo and evo for Tangela in the Gold/Silver beta that got leaked a few years ago).
As a pokemon fan as long as i can remember this set is amazing. Sadly still havent gotten that holo charizard thats worth as much as a whole car.

To be fair to Marowak it use to be a middel stage pokemon. To something that translates to Guardian. Tho that pokemon like many of gen 1 and 2s designs was scrapped.

I don't remember if it was in a movie or a show but in it cubone finds the skull and puts it on and when he/she evolves into marowak the skull becomes permanently apart of him/her (it was probably Detective Pikachu I saw it in but I already knew it from back in my card collecting days as it was very obvious in the artwork) (also sorry if I spelt the names wrong)

The Maxmoefoe we didn't know we needed
To explain the TCG rarity system form Scarlet & Violet onwards (this set is technically a SV set),
Common (Circle or C) cards are the most common type of cards, often unremarkable basics
Uncommon (Rhombus or U) cards are the second most common cards and tend to be evolution pokemon or more powerful than most commons
Rare (Black Star (White star on Darkness Types) or R) are Rarer than the previous 2 but still are not hard to find
Double Rare (2 Black Stars or RR) are the rating containing ex cards and are where cards start becoming somewhat scarce/expensive
Ultra Rare (2 White Stars or SR, Also known as Full Arts) are even rarer than Double rares and include a full image of the pokemon and also contain versions of trainer cards (mainly supporters)
Illustration/Art Rare (Gold Star or AR) Cards with alternate versions of the card art covering the full image can be differentiated fro SAR cards by their status as not an ex
Special Illustration/Special Art Rare (2 Gold Stars or SAR) cards are the same concept as AR cards but with ex pokemon. these are some of the rarest cards and also contains versions of trainer cards
Ace Spec Rare (Magenta Star or ACE, from the Temporal Forces set onwards*) cards are quite rare and in the game are limited to 1 in a deck. the also have a magenta background and some blue text and borders
Gold Rare (3 Gold Stars or UR) are cards that have a gold appearance and are quite rare
There are way more rarities that exist, even form the SwSh era (Radiant Rare, Rainbow Rare etc.) so just search for guides to the rarities for more info.
*there were Ace Spec cards form the Black & White era, but that doesn't matter that much
