- The sounds of Minecraft got many updates over time. In this video I compared Minecraft old sounds with the current ones. Which old sound do you miss the most?

I love how some of the " New " sounds are still nostalgic to older players because some of them were changed within a few years of minecrafts release. Like the chest and door sound effects.
I didn't play Minecraft until it launched onto the Xbox 360, because my family and I didn't have a laptop or computer that was for leisure, and those door and chest sounds were with that version right from launch.

I still don't have a laptop or computer for leisure, but that's just because I would rather not risk any sort of malware ending up on any systems I also file taxes or store confidential work data. Different emails, usernames, passwords, search engines, et cetera, all so I can be as careful as can be. Phone and console are leisure, and they even operate on separate internet wifi than the at-home laptop and computer. Overkill? Likely. Can I afford this overkill? I wouldn't be doing it this way if I couldn't.
Just get a laptop or desktop and isolate it on your network and set it up with a fresh account and email, that way it has no way of communicating with your other devices or work accounts @LastRookie

yeah like for the the old water sounds stood out to me where as the chest opening didnt.

Random fact: The old “walking on grass” sound is still used in game, used for when you break any dirt-like block that isn’t dirt in the game. (grass block, podzol, pathway, farmland, snow-covered grass block, etc.)

Who else expected the "OOF" when they were showing the fall damage part?
Me and I'm surprised how short lived that sound effect actually was. It was only in the game for two years and apparently a lot of people don't know it ever existed. Some comments are straight up denying it.

they should make it where you can choose what sounds you want in the options. I personally like the old fall damage, splash, and door sounds but prefer the new cow, chest, and bow sounds. It would be great to be able to customize it to my liking.

It’s insane that Mojang renewed all sound in the game but didn’t add any ambience like wind, cicadas or birds
They would probably want to add those as actual mechanics instead of just meaningless ambience

I was playing when they changed the sound for walking on grass. It honestly sounds like a creeper starting to explode it made me so paranoid lol

New < Old (I mostly miss the fact that Steve had a voice, and it just made more sense than bones cracking, especially when dying in lava or water)

New > Old (same thing as the explosion, the old ones cut off and are just super loud and annoying)
Bow Sounds
New > Old (it just makes more sense to me)
Grass Walk
New > Old (old sounds were, once again, really loud, and the new sounds just sound more grassy)
i think the current hurt sound isnt a bone cracking, its just a general hit sound
im pretty sure it was because they needed a gender neutral hurt sound when alex was introduced, so they just made it a ticking noise
agree with everything except door and water sound, very based!!
Maybe it's hard to believe, but not all people remain with Steve as skin, and change go other characters where the deep manly voice doesn't fit when you take damage. Also, if you're constantly taking damage from mobs, hearing that hurt sound spammed will get annoying real fast.

Maybe it's hard to believe, but it wouldn't be that hard for a multi-billion dollar company to hire voice actors for other simple grunt sounds across multiple genders.

They nerfed the hell outta that fall damage sound. I miss the bone cracking noise of the older sound as opposed to the newer censored sounds.

This reminded me of my really old minecraft times like 6-8 years ago both playing the game and watching all kinds of videos about it
Honestly I think old Minecraft is so nostalgic (Still got 1.3 on my PS3) but newer Minecraft looks and sounds so real it's uncanny! (Xbox Series S version is unbelievable)

I personally preffer the old sounds purely because of nostalgia. They will always hold a dear place in my heart.
Other than that the new sounds are better. Just be honest everyone and agree with me that you like the old sounds just cause of nostalgia. No shame in it.
I prefer the old sounds because they always prioritize being distinct and unique over aiming for realism like a lot of the new sounds.

They should repurpose the old sounds, like the old crunchy grass for the new biome "Pale Garden" for a more dead and ghostly vibe
The old i remember was similar to door opening now, closing was the same sound as opening, but louder
I didn't even realize the water sound changed until today, when I was swimming in the swamp near my base and went "Oh that's a nice sound, it sounds different." I've swam in that world an annoying amount of times.

Minecraft has evolved with not only the graphics and characters, but also the sfx. Thanks for that nostalgia.
I think when it comes to old vs new sounds there definitely is a trend to having more subtle sounds.
Hell this doesn’t just apply to Minecraft, as older games tend to use more exaggerated sounds compared to newer games. Although this in some part is probably due to some older games using stock sound libraries that had more exaggerated/stand out sound effects
Slamming the door shut in front of your friend's face just doesn't have the same sass as it used to.
I don't remember some of the old ones like the chest or bow sound, but I do remember the old death sound effect as well the water splash

I love using the vanilla tweaks resource for the old door sound. I dont have any nostalgia for it, but it just sounds better
While the old sfx have their charm and nostalgia, i think we should acknowledge the amazing improvements to sound design in minecraft over the years that are a huge part of its unique atmosphere. The old sounds are a bit clunky and disconnected or too loud (eg. Grass walking sfx) as compared to the newer ones that intergrate into the experience better.

OK I had no idea any of these sounds were changed because for the past 10 years whenever I played Minecraft it was on mute because I was listening to music or watching a movie on the side.
I love all the old sounds but I hate the old grass walking sound with a passion! It was unbearably loud and repetitive when you were actually playing the game

As someone who has played since alpha, I totally understand missing the old sounds due to nostalgia. However, as a sound designer, all of the new sounds sound so much better to me.
Nostalgia aside I see all of the newer sounds to be an improvement over the old the updated sounds are just more satisfying to listen to when you have to hear them over and over but the fact I could picture both in my head perfectly displays how good Minecraft’s sound design both was and is current day truly a special game
