You know I went into watching the show expecting it to be a cheap knockoff oven already formulaic sitcom. I'm pleasantly surprised how well-written this is and how great the actors are for the roles
Was gonna comment this exact thing. I was in my teens when the original show was starting, and by the time this came, I just rolled my eyes at another greedy spin off. I can’t believe it’s as good as it is. It still has some pretty hokey moments, and uses a lot of worn out tropes, but it’s almost comfortably cringey. It definitely feels self aware, and I really enjoy the more serialized aspects of it, such as Georgie’s kid and Meemaw’s businesses. Best part hands down however, was the shift from multi-cam to single cam. I hate the look of multi-cam productions, everything symmetrical and staged to the “audience”. It always bugs me that multi can sitcoms only allow for rooms with 3 sides. The single cam approach makes this feel much more personal.

To be honest I think that Sheldon is actually responsible for putting a lot of strain on the family, by no means am I saying that he did it on purpose, but the way that he is and acts just naturally did it, hell even Paige parents struggled with her and she was actually socially aware, Sheldon is Just a difficult kid
I think there were a lot of factors at play. One person’s already mentioned that Sheldon being who he is made parenting, and thus the marriage, harder. Another thing was likely the frustrations that both George and Mary felt at not having the lives they wanted - Mary got pregnant at 18 and became a stay at home wife and mother within months, when she would’ve probably thrived at college (as seen in S4). For George’s part, he wanted to do great things in the coaching world but was fired for whistleblowing and is struggling to earn a decent living with a mortgage and three kids. I guess all of those things combined put a strain on their relationship.
Hey the parents have to give Sheldon credit for already waking up and packed for the trip ready to go! I always did when my parents took me on trips when I was a little girl through teenager years! And I still wake up early at 7am/7:30am to pack for trips and take care of my dog and get breakfast going before I leave.
