  • Red Bull CAUGHT HIDING RB20 Braking Trick!!! - FIA Ban the System | F1 2024
    After the final race before the summer shutdown this past Sunday morning, news has begun circulating that the fia have released their latest 2024 technical regulations for the season. And this could explain why Red Bull have lost the competitive advantage they had at the start of the season becuase they have been hiding a secret RB20 "trick" that has potentially been on the car since the start of the season.
    It could also explain where their superior race pace has vanished too over the course of the season regardless of all the other teams catching up in terms of development. What do you guys think? Let me know...

    I find that people seem to confuse cheating with exploiting loopholes. There is actually a clear line here. If this is a cheating violation, it means that the team did something that is prohibited by the regulations. Exploiting loopholes means that the regulations do not clearly state it, but the fact that it is not written does not mean that it cannot be done. This is the only boundary. Due to the management problems of the FIA, the updates of the regulations are always lagging behind. This directly leads to the fact that exploiting loopholes in the rules will be regarded as a kind of cheating. But I think it is more complicated. This is not the first time that Red Bull has done this. The last time Red Bull won four world championships was because of the double-layer diffuser, which was very hidden and was not discovered by other teams until a long time later. Then the FIA began to ban its use. Regarding Mercedes' DAS in 2020, there is actually no technical rule stating that the front suspension cannot be controlled in this way, so it is compliant. However, for the problem of the braking system, there is continuity in the FIA's technical regulations. After McLaren's behavior was discovered, the regulations prohibited it. Doing this secretly is actually a cheating behavior. Exploiting loopholes in the rules is not afraid of technical review, while cheating is the opposite. Cheating cannot pass technical review. Cheating will cause your grades to drop rapidly due to technical review.

      Isn't this what makes F1 so good? Teams digging into the rules to find any advantage they can? People (with no evidence) want to accuse redbull of doing this yet there is absolutely no proof and the reports state that this was not implemented by teams yet. This is literally why I love F1 and not nascar where every car is the same and they do 300 laps on an oval. Also its not a loophole, that is a disingenuous way to state that a team found a legal performance advantage and only when its too good does it get banned. The FIA is no stranger to asymmetric braking which is likely why they shut it down before it happened.

    • @GeometryEX-hp9zs
      @GeometryEX-hp9zs 3 месяца назад

      @@RedHaloManiac95 The real reason for banning this technology before was that it would interfere too much with the driver. It would become less controlled by the human. This is essentially cheating, not a loophole. This is why the FIA needs to add this rule. Red Bull's strange performance advantage has shown that they are cheating. This is not the first time Red Bull has done this. They did the same with the double-layer diffuser many years ago. They don't want to pass the technical review, which cannot prove compliance.

      In 1997, when mclaren came up with the 3rd pedal it was an innovation and only later on it was banned. Thus, mclaren did not cheat. FIA current regulations already forbade asymmetrical breaking. The updated text only serves to emphasize this existing rule for those who 'somehow failed' to interpret it correctly: Article 11.1.2: “The brake system must be designed so that within each circuit, the forces applied to the brake pads are the same magnitude and act as opposing pairs on a given brake disc." Added sentence: “Any system or mechanism which can produce systematically or intentionally, asymmetric braking torques for a given axle is forbidden.” Any team using an asymmetrical breake system would have known that it was not permitted to do so. If Red Bull were told to remove such system from their car, a significant drop in speed would be expected. Such drop would certainly bring the rest of the field into play. Antonio Lobato posted on July 20th about FIA finding illegal parts on Red Bull's car and telling them to remove them. Last year, there was a lot of talk about Red Bull's breaking advantage. It will be interesting to see if Red Bull is still able to show a speed advantage after returning from the summer hiatus.

      Indeed, though there are the cunning loopholes where the rules have actually missed something or really left room for interpretation to which everyone can applaud the teams cunning. When the politics and drama that goes with them are amusing and very public are the ones that makes the series great. And then the more overt cheating styles, which unfortunately of late don't seem to get revealed very much. The ones when it seems there is no doubt what the rules actually mean and that they have been broken but the team does it anyway hoping not to get caught or finds a lawyer to argue this is in the grey area and get away with it.
      With RB's behaviour around the Budget cap being or the rather remarkable drop off in Ferrari engine performance a few years before that being some of the more recent highly dubious team behaviours - in part because there isn't really transparency. Where perhaps the most cunning loophole I can think of being the F-duct - no moveable aero in that era, but you can't ban the driver from moving and at no point was the driver considered part of the car - all out in the open, leading to a solid debate, as its clearly debatable to the spirit of the rules but very cunningly in a grey area. IIRC rather similar situation with those aerodynamic wheel covers that IIRC where a Ferrari idea where the rules where just open enough to make it valid wheeze, but pretty clearly tweaking the spirit of the rules from what I remember.

    All teams find gray areas to exploit , so if the FIA have to update their regulations because a team has implemented something that goes against the spirit of the regulation it is not cheating. But a team does take a risk that it can be banned during a season or like for flexible wings a different test is introduced. Your "proof" with the gap differences between the win in Bahrain and Spain is not perse showing Red Bull already removed something from their car which made them slower. If you compare the qualifying time from both these races to 2023 then in Bahrain Verstappen was about 0.5 seconds faster in 2024 and in Spain has pole time in 2024 was 0.9 faster then 2023. I did not check tire compounds last year to this year. But these qualifying laps does not tell me Red Bull has slowed down in Spain. Mclaren was 0.5 sec behind in Bahrain 2024 and Norris was on pole in Spain 2024. So they clearly have made a huge step this season. Let's see what happens from Zandvoort and onwards then.

While the Mercs and McLaren have taken a relatively plausible step forward vs the Ferrari - the sort of ebb and flow the development race can bring when Ferrari hit some trouble with their latest upgrade. It isn't impossible you are correct of course, without some actual transparency from the FIA we may never know. We will only find out if the FIA are every transparent about what prompted this rewrite, or RB reveal why their performance has gone from superb to pretty terrible - neither of which is likely. In this case sure the other teams have brought updates and improved, but not improved enough to go from as far back as they where at race 1 to now looking like at least 2 teams every weekend are as fast or faster than the RB.. That is more like 2-3 years worth of car improvement...
      So to me having to issue this rewrite with so little transparency says they probably were more blatantly cheating, as compared to the openness the F-Duct or the aero on the wheel hubs had in years gone by. So as it would be bad for the sport's image to throw out the golden boy and current championship leader, or at least eradicate his points hall as he technically should be DQ'd from all the previous races this system was on his car... It may well be this rewrite is nothing more than a theatre performance really, a little distraction to explain the change in performance without ever having to reveal the truth. The lack of transparency on this or the Ferrari engines from a few years back really does kill the credibility that they were not blatantly cheating and effectively getting away with it....

      I remember Toto already raising concerns about Ferrari's anomalous performance gain even as early as 2018 (though he didn't file a formal complaint because they don't have sufficient evidence to back it up)
      After FIA finished their investigations and find inconclusive evidence of an actual cheating, (and subsequently made a secret settlement with Ferrari),
      all teams (except for Ferrari engine users name: Haas, Alfa Romeo, and Ferrari) wrote a confidential letter to FIA to disclose the details of the settlement.
      Max Verstappen point blank publicly accused Ferrari of cheating which Binotto vehemently denied.
      Even though FIA failed to prove conclusively that a cheating occured, Ferrari-engine users were forced to use less fuel in 2020 as a penalty.

    Changing the rules mid-season is not only highly irregular, it is extremely unfair. Shame on the FIA! Didn't the FIA wait until the season's end to ban Merc's F-Duct or DAS? Honest question because I don't remember. But unless Red Bull have broken the letter of the rules, an in-season change of technical regulations (which is absolutely HUGE) is extremely unfair and biased.
    BTW the FIA approved this at the start of the season, otherwise RBR would not have been allowed to start.

    • @TorqueFormulaWon
      @TorqueFormulaWon 3 месяца назад +2

      @@Arsenic71 An in season change helped Red Bull just two years ago. If teams aren't following the regs and exploiting loopholes they get claimed down on. Also, it's better to get banned in season rather than before, and rather than being DSQ entirely.
      They did it with wing flexibility last year too iirc.
      Who knows how long it really was on the car/ took to get discovered and gave them an advantage for?
      I remember DAS was allowed to the end of the year, but then it would be given Mercedes sought permission to use it before the season began, they even had to change aspects to comply. That seeking of permission is what helped them keep it all year.

    • @Arsenic71
      @Arsenic71 3 месяца назад +2

      @@TorqueFormulaWon Remember when the FIA decided that all cars had to run at a higher level because, except for Red Bull, the other teams didn't manage to get their cars working according to the rules? That was explicitly against Red Bull - they had done their homework and created a monster machine. So excellence is now banned and mediocrity is the rule. That is wrong as well.
      And still my point remains, in-season changes to the TECHNICAL REGULATIONS are highly irregular and are, IMO, wrong. F1 has always been about finding loopholes and exploiting them, that's what makes it so great. If you don't allow teams to exploit the rules, you might as well watch Indy.
      Again, anything that is not explicitly forbidden by the rules is legal.

      It depends what it is that's being exploited, things like this are a no go area. If you find a loophole, good for you, but the rules say the FIA reserve the right to amend the rules mid season. Don't be surprised these grey areas or loopholes get closed down though, depending on what it is it's a risk to take and if serious enough it's lucky they don't get banned for cheating.
      Of course the rules are there to exploited, it's just a level playing field needs to remain. It really does depend exactly on what it is, people draw parallels to McLaren system so this should be a no go area. Some things teams know they shouldn't be doing, sometimes the rules as written permit it, then get updated.

      There is a difference between things the rules just flat out doesn't have in them which the very cunning Mercedes steering geometry would fit into (at least to my interpretation of the rules), or are in a slightly grey area like the F-Duct where it sort of is the banned moveable aero and outright more blatant cheating in ways you expect to work - hoping you won't get caught or will get off with such a minor penalty it doesn't matter if you do...
      So when a rule is amended this quietly with no transparency as what prompted it it smells very bad, even more so when the RB have dropped so meteorically from 2-3 years worth of car development ahead of everyone even if they had done nothing to improve in the early races to now being probably the #3rd best car.
      McLarens step up in performance is much more plausible (impressive though it is) as they already had a car that was in the ballpark of if not the best in some types of corner, with a solid engine, good curb riding characteristics - fix the bit they really sucked at without ruining the currently good features of the car and you get a seemingly huge step forward... Obviously with no transparency it is impossible to actually know what is going on. But when one team drops like a rock and a quiet little clarification like comes out it is suggestive.

I have not heard any claims of superior cornering speeds. It would be interesting if the stats bore this out. People fail to realize that the redbull didnt get slower, the other teams got faster.

    Sure taking a lot of credit for something that is as of right now conjecture. Perhaps it was Red Bull but I doubt it was because you alerted anyone

    Why can’t all tames do what the want with there cars then it would be much more interesting it all would amount to the same thing as all these stupit rules. 😊

    Its all so sneaky and would explain certain teams sharing wins with drivers than rather maximize the natural no1 driver. I wouldnt b suprised that certain teams noticed that RB have been caught but f1 hadnt amended the rules thus technically leaving the door open for them to manipulate. Maclaren took a leap almost overnight. Now Mercedes. If its something RB have used to b leading the way they did but have not been punished for then its hard not to think other teams will do the same. Horner has created such an environment. F1 stops any cry's of another fraudulent season . Everyone happy for 2nd half of season. Most depressing start to the season for a f1 fan. Now its sunshine and lollipops. . It just gets more thrilling with every race.

    As a Mercedes fan this isn’t cheating! Just a team being clever and reading between the lines in the rule book, and creating engineering masterpieces. It’s part of what the sport is all about! Every other team would do that if they had the idea.

      @@Megumi44-vm6fn it's not cheating if the governing body can't penalize it. Now they have changed the rules and now they may penalize teams who do not follow the rules.
