Been a huge fan of ARS since 1976. I'm also a drummer and Robert was always one of my favorites. That Ludwig kit always sounded so awesome. I got to see ARS perform live in 1981 at C.W. Post College here in New York but as I am sure you know Robert had left the band just a few years earlier and Roy Yeager was the drummer at the time. I regret that I never got the opportunity to see ARS perform live while Robert was still with the band.

This is a 1979 cover of a 1966 Classics IV song, hence the word "groovy" in it, a word that wasn't current anymore in 1979. The original is also really good, more sixties-sounding. This one is really seventies-sounding. This song used to be played sometimes at Halloween. The way they transformed this song reminds me of how Santana redid the Zombies' 1964 hit "She's Not There" in 1977.

I had the privilege to watch these guys play backstage about 18 yrs. ago. Our band was playing at an outdoor festival and we "opened" for them! The musicianship was awesome. Then later my friend told me that they played with the Classics IV in the 60's and he personally knew Dennis Yost. He was a drummer & lead singer. They played on the same circuit at gigs around the Daytona clubs where my friend had met them. Later, when the band split up, a couple of members left and formed ARS, but not Dennis. Check out "Imaginary Lover". Great song! Cheers!

The singer's name is Ronnie Hammond (RIP) who was one of the best ever. Notice that there were 2 totally different types of guitar solos. The main one featured finger-picking style and the other (last one) used block chords. Both guys knocked it out of the park. I heard Dicky Betts say one time that the reason most Southern rock bands had two (or more) guitarists was because of the twin fiddles in the old Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys. The Rhythm Section is one of my all-time favorites. Can't go wrong with any of their many selections. As always, another great reaction. Thanks, and Merry Christmas.

This is your third reaction. The first reaction was mislabeled as “Atlantic” Rhythm Section. This band is amazing and deserves all the credits!

Can't go wrong here, ARS has been in my playlist for about 40 plus years excellent Country R&B.
You have more to check out with these boys.

Good pick! Guitar solo is proof you don’t have to jump all over the stage to make it great!

Ah, great choice! Classics IV is the original band to record this song, but the Atlanta Rhythm Section does a killer version! Speaking of ARS, check out Do it or Die next!

Thanks so much guys for this one! I completely forgot how much I loved this song 40+ years ago when I was a teenager and playing in my first bands. I love music with a great groove and ARS really delivered here!

Atlanta Rhythm Section members were former members of the classics IV I do believe. Love this song!

"Homesick" probably one of ARS more overlooked hits is one of my favorites!
A little more rockin than most of their songs.
Hope you get to that one soon! (studio version)

As many have pointed out, this was a hit for The Classics IV. Two of the members of Classics (Guitarist J. R. Cobb and keyboard player Dean Daughtry) went on to start ARS.

You should check out the Dusty Springfield version from 1968, one year after the original. It's possibly my favourite song by her.

Great guitar solo followed by a great keyboard solo. The instrumental part takes this beyond what you had in the original.

Outstanding song that is done better by the original recording by The Classics IV, which still had some of the original musicians on this recording!

This song was originally written as an instrumental in 1967. The band Classics IV took it and added lyrics and had a hit later in 1967. The members who added the lyrics, foubded this band so it's a bizarre semi-partial cover song. This is from 1979.
I habe a version by David Sanborn based on the original instrumental saxophone based track.
