Honestly, i want to theorize that the events of GTA:SA most likely happened in GTA:V. What i mean by that is how 3D-SA is its own world, while HD-SA happened in GTA:V, maybe with little differences here and there. Of course HD-SA would follow the drastic events that followed (like CJ raiding a military base, owning a casino and robbing a different one, working with government agents, burning a weed farm, and eventually taking back LS and defeating CRASH). But of course, despite these notorious feats it have eventually lead to a culmination of CJ even retiring, considering the lifestyle he was living in at the end of the game. He most likely have even moved from LS, getting a favor from Mike Toreno to cover up his past, or since Toreno disappears in the story, he may have just left Grove Street behind with his family to another area, providing a fresh start. This may be supported by how much CJ has at the end of the game to set them up for a good portion of their lives, supported by Kendall, who is quite adept at managing businesses. Of course, maybe he left another leader in it's place, or not, and maybe they disbanded, but regardless it would've eventually led to in-fighting that weakened GS considerably, most likely losing territory to the Ballas and Vagos over time. Then shortly thereafter, many splinter-factions were formed, leading to the current Families we know today. Since GS pretty much disbanded, and then nearly 2 decades later, what used to be a possible reality, became a background story throughout the families. But to outsiders like Jimmy, may have seen it as an urban legend, most likely supporting his romanticizing of the gangster life and like Franklin said, "Hell no, it's not a myth, but times have changed, homie. I'm families, I guess, just like they was, but things is different now homie. It ain't the early nineties no more." Franklin is most likely saying that the stuff the Grove managed to pull off is just not possible anymore. It's most likely a quip for the player to interpret that times have change, that it's best to stop seeking out a past fantasy that won't apply to current modern-day Los Santos. Of course, this is my head-canon, so R* has the final say of what is true canon regardless. Sincerely ~ A man washing dishes right after posting this comment

Fun fact: Shawn Fonteno (Franklin's VA) actually voiced one of the Grove Street members back in San Andreas. It was the big guy with a green bandana on his head.
In my opinion, it's like a urban legend... for example, maybe there was an infamous ex-gangsta from Grove Street called "Carl Johnson" in HD Universe... but it's not the same guy who have ever robbed Caliguna Casino, raided Area 69, or the one who've killed lots of mafia. They're in different universe, sure... however, just like what Franklin said in this video, every stuff that ever happened in 3D Universe could become a myth in HD Universe.
There's literally ZERO reason for the 3D and HD universe to be seperated. I've heard some people say that it was done because the city layouts are so different between games, but Chinatown Wars IS considered to be within the HD universe and its version of Liberty City is very different to GTA4, so there's really no excuse for the universe seperation.

I don't give a damn what rockstar has to say about "separate universes" just to explain the different city layouts that only occurred due to technical limitations of the past, this shouldn't even have been a big issue, Rockstar should have just retconned Gta San Andreas's story to take place into the Gta 5's version of San Andreas, and I am aware that Gta 5's San Andreas does not have San Fierro and Las Venturas, but Chinatown War's Liberty City also does not have the third island from Gta 4 and they are in the same universe. You could just say San Fierro and LV are not accessible in Gta 5 but still exist and are still part of the San Andreas state as a whole, absolutely none of this should be complicated, but Rockstar fucked it up and now you have their die-hard penis lickers trying to somehow justify everything their rockstar daddy says and shunning anyone who doesn't agree with their daddies. You corporate bootlickers are actually depressing.
The thing I've found with GTA5 and it's connection to SA is that most people in the GTA5 world will have 2 separate opinions. One half will say that Grove Street existed but that they rose to the top as a gang and eventually became the elite corporate entities of Los Santos. While others will say the Groves street was either assimilated by other gangs or simply wiped out before they could reach the top. In both scenarios Grove Street exists but have become legends/myths for the people of Los Santos. The same technique is used for Bioshock 2 when referencing the events of Bioshock 1. **[SPOILERS]** In one of the early levels you can find 2 splicers talking about "Jack". One saying that he saved all the Little Sisters and took them away from Rapture, while the other calls him an idiot and says that Jack harvested all the Little Sisters and left to rule the outside world.
I'm almost certain that the 3D universe characters/events exist in some way in the HD universe. The entirety of Lazlow Jones, the celebrity stars in Los Santos, Toni from Flash FM and Flashback FM appearing on a billboard in the east part of Los Santos, and various other things all seem to imply that even if the events of the 3D universe didn't happen, the characters most certainly still exist somewhere.

You're comment deserves to be top. A lot of these npc kids don't realize they are connected via Epsilon. Episolon is the only group to appear in 3D and HD world, they also appear in Red Dead and Manhunt. Remember the Mandela effect, to us 90s kids Pikachu had a yellow tail w/ black tip, but if you go back to 'official' record he only has a yellow tail.. proof that the timeline has been altered. My bet is that events of the 3D world were altered by Episolon and we have the HD universe where CJ never returned back to LS and stayed in LC thus causing the Ballas to takeover. But episolon is shown in Rocstar to be able to time travel via the Red Dead Mission.
It’s probably just a scenario where the HD universe had its own Version of gta 3/vice/San Andreas with their own but different variations of Claude/tommy/cj. And the 3D universe conceivably have their lower textured versions of gta 4 and gta 5 with there same but different protagonist later down the line as well. I mean if Like 30 side charactes from the old games were confirmed to exist as a different incarnation in the HD universe than why wouldn’t the protagonist?
Yeah I dont get why people cant understand that. Gta4 was a reboot. Its like the superhero stuff we got so many different batman and alfred exists in every movie. That doesnt mean batman begins is a sequel to batman and robin. Same characters same lore sometimes but different universes
It's plausible since it's an alternate universe. I think since the HD Universe is a more grounded one, things like CJ raiding area 51 and all of the other extreme situations in SA didn't happen in the HD era equivalent, but there's also the fact that those 3D era Mafia Families don't exist in the HD era. Just entertaining the thought, but yeah it's definitely a rebooted franchise.
San Andreas takes place in 1992, the early 90s, not the mid 2000s when it came out, just like how vice city takes place in the 80s and not the early 2000s. Do people seriously not know this?
Because Franklin knows the hood is a romantized bs that makes his homies die for nothing, Lamar nearly dies for keep playing gangsta sh!t at the Paleto Sawmill
My headcanon for the different universes is that the 3D and the HD universes are like parallel universes so some of the actions that happened in the 3D universe never happened or happened differently in the HD one. For this particular video I think that maybe Grove Street did not get as powerful as in GTA SA.
No it's the prolly the timeline where vic vance didn't serve army and because of that one single change lance didn't go to vc and vic didn't get involved with drugs, the 86 deal didn't happen so Ricardo Diaz is still alive but probably in prison, Tommy wouldn't have taken over vice city meaning he would stay in LC but that also means ken did not get sent to rehab, if the 86 deal didn't happen tommy would still be working with the forellis and probably eventually became the underboss defeating the Leones and CJ eventually became broke because of the situation and didn't come to back to LS, He became depressed because of his bro and mom's death and in LS sweet would've gotten assassinated and ryder and Big smoke will take over eventually becoming drug addicts and denise cj's gf didn't meet him and she eventually broke up with a vagos member, Cesar would not have met CJ and kendl eventually leaving the grove, Catalina wouldn't have met CJ and possibly claude who stayed at san fierro and all the C.R.A.S.H, LS riots, LC gangwars, Didnt happen, Tenpenny pulaski was caught early on for the death of pendelbury since they didn't meet CJ, In 98 forellis would have taken over LC the sindaccos yakuza diablos yardies are the only problem since toni and claude are not in LC the waka gashiras would be killed by no other than the forellis and gangs eventually transformed yardies is still yardies diablos became Spanish lords and forellis possibly disbanded or went to vc but the mount chilliad relocation and renamed island in gta 4 debunks this, It's probably when the geological formation of hd is different from 3d but that's just a theory a game theory

Because its so much cooler for them to be separate universes for no reason even though recurring characters and places exist in both universe which yes is possible but is total shit and unfortunately canon but whatever I can dream
Just because they’re in a different universe doesn’t mean there isn’t connections and maybe some of that same shit did happen but differently because yes it has been confirmed that they are in different universes and that’s obvious because the map and locations are pretty much completely different but… Grove Street, vagos, and the ballas are still around the map. I don’t even care about the 3D/HD universe being connected or not, i just guess a lot can happen and changes in 20 years. Franklin i believe also talks about “the old school” gangsters that could be either dead or CEO’s by now. Which is CJ and Sweet and his group.
When Franky said that "it ain't ninties no more "it feels nostalgia about gta sa And when he said"things are changed in here it reminds me of cj,s dialogue in the mission sweet and kendl
I think the hd universe and 3d are connected like Star Wars legends vs canon, the things that are told could be true in some way, but like a myth; where is no form to corroborate
Notice Franklin didnt use names. Grove St. May have been a big thing back in the 90's but not the way the players know. They are two separate continuities. They use references for the nostalgia nothing more.

Rockstar probably didn’t want the old stories to drag down the new ones if they were all set in the same world they’d have to explain how things changed, why the cities are so much bigger and different, bring back old voice actors for old characters because fans would want them back etc. easier to just say they’re different universes.
@@goku8621 Thats why I said leave it up to the gamer to interpret the differences. Make our own canon. These games aren’t exactly linear anyways so why not let us make our own canon
that makes zero sense if you think about it. it's worded that way on purpose. if you look at the GTA5 beta, there was originally gang territories and the gang system was closer to GTA San Andreas. Because they rushed the game for Online, GSF and Ballas act basically like armed civillians who never proactively commit crimes or fight with each other, and prolonged gang fights are not a part of the core game. But even in this complete alternate GTA universe, the 80s and early 90s were insanely violent in Los Santos. Thats all Franklin is referencing
But he is talking about the gang? Even if he was just talking about the events of SA (which he wasn’t) he would still be talking about the gang in a way😐
@@jervisjavier maybe cj took the homies out the hood and there was no one to protect it from ballas so they took it away remember cj became a big business man
It really sucks that Rockstar scrapped the old universe. It would have been so cool to know that each character existed in the same universe. No clue why they decided to make separate stories like that
Basically, they had a fight with every protagonist voice actor. Seriously, I can't think of a protagonist who wasn't angry at R* for a reason or another, normally involving bad payment. Hence why they said "F this, we start all over" in GTA IV. But guess what, Niko's voice actor is mad at them too
Well not just GTA V but GTA IV also scrapped the prior universe and prior characters and even though IV and V both belong to the HD universe, they still don't share the same Storylines and character. Rockstar likes to keep different generation games completely separate.
Well not just GTA V but GTA IV also scrapped the prior universe and prior characters and even though IV and V both belong to the HD universe, they still don't share the same Storylines and character. Rockstar likes to keep different generation games completely separate.
There's also other instances of this, I believe one of the ballas will yell "Grove Street ain't the family's turf no more" and "this Ballas territory now!" Even further indicating that yes the two games are connected at least in some way.
I like to think the overall events of San Andreas happened in the HD universe. Basically, in this universe, in the early 90s, The Families controlled Grove Street, a Families member named CJ returned to Los Santos and got roped in by a police officer named Tenpenny, riots happened when Tenpenny was acquitted, etc. Since the map is different, it didn’t happen exactly the same but the basic story took place, albeit emulated to fit the GTA V world.
In GTA San Andreas, there is a kind of NPC that carries a blue inflatable bag on his backpack. Sometimes, when CJ walks by this NPC’s side, the character says: “Kifflom”. Probably, the Epsilon program was already a thing in the game franchise when GTA SA came out.
For the ones fighting about 2 separate universes just know Peter Parker botched a spell and now we are all part of a multiverse including all these games 😂😂
It’s been confirmed that they take place in different universes. Carl, Sweet, Smoke, Ryder etc never existed in GTA IV/Vs universe which makes sense because they’re not even mentioned once despite the fact that CJ and Smoke had pivotal roles in shaping LS. Plus the Ballas own Grove Street which isn’t possible at the end of SA.
kerb that....just backs up my point even further. At the end of SA, Grove Street was the undisputed strongest gang in LS. The Ballas were basically done because they lost their crack business. Assuming CJ would leave Sweet in charge while he dealt with all his other business, there shouldn’t be any reason for the Grove to fall so badly that they lose the hood the gang is named after. Instead, The Grove suddenly belongs to the Ballas and neither Sweet nor CJ are anywhere to be seen.
I don't know heros and gangstas don't live that long just because something happen in the 90s doesn't mean it can't change a couple years later nothing is really written in stone that's why I like Grand theft Auto because in most games like the protagonist in the old games will die and that's just how life is not everything is a fairy tale
They should've just kept the 3D and HD games in the same universe. They would correlate and compare to each other a lot better and things like this would be easier to explain to newcomers.
Nah, because the bigger the lore, the more likely contradictions and things like that would seep in. The 3D universe served its purpose for its time. The story was made complete and it all came full circle. The last game in the canon was the first game in release order so it's pretty clear to me that R* had a huge story that spanned across different games in mind and they successfully finished it with no strings loose. This ain't the MCU, and I prefer it stays that way.
@@dtxspeaks268 are you sure, because it is to Rockstar as well. They just have to make excuses for why they "aren't in the same universe" because Rockstar wants to be detailed and wants to explain (in a lazy way) why the LS looks so different. But by that logic, Red Dead 1 would have to be in a separate universe because mountains make it to where you can't climb to other places but they aren't there in 2. Hmmmmmm
I swear to god rockstar did this line for us so we can forget about the old games... but you can't end a story without letting us know what happend....
Sort of But the Houser did confirmed years ago this is a separate universe from the 3d ones. Some characters from the 3d universe did carry over, but they never mentioned the core characters like CJ and his gang, Tommy, Claude and the families at all. It's like they reset the side characters stories a bit and let them ignore the events of the 3d games. This happened with the RDR games in which some npcs mentioned the events of Red Dead Revolver and referred them as myths.
Id of loved more missions with lemar against the balla and his last mission is taking back the grove. Also find out how it fell. What happened to cj and sweet. I do think aswell though they should of had the grove look exactly the same because I went there as soon as I could and was so disappointed that it was the grove in name only
The fact they made grove Street ballas territory and cj's house into a Crack house made me stop playing gta 5 🤣 All that work 9 year earlier and that's what I get for the Grove?
I like how Franklin say this isn’t the 90s anymore. Shows how times have changed and unless we get a newer gen game taking place back then we won’t get another gta like San Andreas
I like to think that after the LS riots in 1992 they had to pretty much rebuild the city that’s why it’s so different I think rockstar should have gone with that than say they’re in different universes and bring back some familiar faces from Gta sa
It makes more sense that the whole of the GSF broke off and the entire hierachy of the family left LS and went to LV may be considering that CJ was raking in hard cash with the Triads in the casino?
It's a little on the nose, however I think this piece of dialogue really sums up Franklin as a character. Everyone probably had the expectation that it was going to be gang on gang warfare like in SA and so when you get the game and realize that it's much more tame, you almost feel like you got ripped off or something lol The reality is that they were obviously trying to do a modern day gang depiction but unfortunately thats no where near as interesting as say the riots in the 90's in LA.
Seems like it sums up their attitude towards their earlier games, "you ain't living out some suburban gang banging fantasy with me" Then GTA 5 introduced a crack smoking main character
I dunno I like it. It shows us that some of us are stuck in the hood and desperately want out because not everyone is a gang banging nut but bad circumstances keep us stuck or going back.
I would not be surprised if the whole universe thing is just a excuse to get fans off Rockstar's backs with will there be CJ or Tommy in that game . I remember when gta 4 was coming out ,those questions just kept getting asked over and over again .
@@Dog15308 that's so dumb. they clearly are separate universes because San Andreas in GTA V is drastically different than in San Andreas (the game) same with GTA III's Liberty City compared to IV's

also, one time non-modded, i pulled an npc out of a car in story mode (just a normal pedestrian) and he says "this is why i wanted to move to san andreas" or something along those lines
I know what the developers said but I think the events of the 3D universe happened in some manner in the HD verse and guys like CJ, like Claude are all retired somewhere in the world and their exploits are legendary to the point of urban legend I mean it was before social media took off.
They aren't connected in the litteral way, just look how different San Andreas looks in both games, but in some capacity all events that happend in the 3D universe, also happened in the HD universe, just in a different way
It just shows that the HD era used to have a Grove Street as well, which were the families in the fist place, just like in the newer Los Santos. They are still seperate universes. It is also a cool homage to the 3D era.
It’s wild to think that when GTA V dropped San Andreas was 9 years old which seemed like an eternity. Now we are about to be 9 years since GTA V and we don’t even have a Logo reveal for the next game.
I always interpreted it as the 3D universe being the "fictionalized" version of the real thing in the HD universe, kinda like how the "based on a true story" movies and books are fictionalized versions of our real world You know what I mean
TMeek94 He's saying the crimes did happen and so did the rest of the events, but not exactly as we saw them. That's why he used movies based on true stories as the example. Every biopic or film based on a true story isn't perfectly true to real life. The idea is that the 3D universe games were like movies based on real events that happened within the HD universe, just heavily fictionalized with real details sprinkled in to keep it grounded in reality.

Great point

There was no reason to separate universes. Should have left it to the player to interpret the difference in different versions of certain cities.
Rockstar probably didn’t want the old stories to drag down the new ones if they were all set in the same world they’d have to explain how things changed, why the cities are so much bigger and different, bring back old voice actors for old characters because fans would want them back etc. easier to just say they’re different universes.

When Jimmy said : is grove street like a myth he's was referring to all the crazy s*** in Grand theft Auto San Andreas not the gang as a whole
that makes zero sense if you think about it. it's worded that way on purpose. if you look at the GTA5 beta, there was originally gang territories and the gang system was closer to GTA San Andreas.

It really sucks that Rockstar scrapped the old universe. It would have been so cool to know that each character existed in the same universe. No clue why they decided to make separate stories like that
I think it is just because they had new ideas and reusing the old maps and engine would be a bad option.

There's also other instances of this, I believe one of the ballas will yell "Grove Street ain't the family's turf no more" and "this Ballas territory now!" Even further indicating that yes the two games are connected at least in some way.
My laughing chimney is a creepy guy
It's not is a small easter egg there is no connection between 3d and hd universes only cameos
I say the Salvatore Leone missions in San andreas didn't happen because I don't think he exists in the HD universe
I really think there is a counterpart of OG characters in the HD universe. Different settings, but their stories still could have happened
I love these little character interactions.
Another HD/3D connection is the TV commercial in GTA 4 which shows Las Venturas in San Andreas
Jimmy: are you grove street?
Franklin: bitch, do I look like a street?
The HD universe had their own version of Grove Street that did not have any of the original characters in it.

Plus the Ballas own Grove Street which isn’t possible at the end of SA.
almost like it says in hood safari that families used to own grove street until they all left and it got taken over by ballas
kerb that....just backs up my point even further.

😂 WTF

He was tired of that damn sorcery
I like how Franklin mentioned it being in the early 90s when San Andreas setting is in the 90s
Cool to see Jimmy ask Franklin about Grove Street, fun little details like that is what make R* Games special.
I know what the developers said but I think the events of the 3D universe happened in some manner in the HD verse and guys like CJ, like Claude are all retired somewhere in the world and their exploits are legendary to the point of urban legend I mean it was before social media took off.
I think this in itself is addressing ppl who keep trying to find GTA SA connections when there really kinda aren't
I love when he reminded of Suburban store shop
They aren't connected in the litteral way, just look how different San Andreas looks in both games, but in some capacity all events that happend in the 3D universe, also happened in the HD universe, just in a different way
It just shows that the HD era used to have a Grove Street as well, which were the families in the fist place, just like in the newer Los Santos. They are still seperate universes. It is also a cool homage to the 3D era.
Of course it does. The actual street exists in south Los Santos
It’s wild to think that when GTA V dropped San Andreas was 9 years old which seemed like an eternity. Now we are about to be 9 years since GTA V and we don’t even have a Logo reveal for the next game.
Franklin did mention in gta online when they burn some weed that it’s “like that shit in 92”
I always interpreted it as the 3D universe being the "fictionalized" version of the real thing in the HD universe, kinda like how the "based on a true story" movies and books are fictionalized versions of our real world
You know what I mean
Yeah I get what you mean
Then how come Jack howitzer gets released in gta 5 for the crimes he committed in the 3d games

GTA VI when it comes out
Trevor is a Florida man that scaped Vice City, and the history mentions him sometimes.
