    fantastic! can't wait for the Closed Loop/OM talk and i hope you can give us more then just a description, but also some insite on why it was plumbed the way it is or some reasoning on the flow dynamics!!

      We placed the returns around the perimeter of the aquarium and plumbed them through the top bracing to allow us to get flow throughout the aquarium. This leaves very little room for dead spots and we have no need for power heads in the tank. The reasoning is simply to create flow throughout the tank. I kept the closed loop intakes centered down 9" because I didn't want the potential for 800 gallons of water on the floor. I didn't get too scientific with it but I'm happy with the results.

    I thought it would be so much more complicated. Looks great!

    most excellent setup!...I notice you are dropping your skimmer output back into the same sump as the input (instead of straight into the "return" sump)..is this so you can "double skim"..or is there another reason?..Thanks

    such a simple system from what I've been looking at and the tank is alive and thriving. Makes you wonder how much equip you actually need…

      ehm ... i think its overcomplicated , the more piping you add and external pumps the more things can go wrong in the long run . just my opinion .

    Very impressive Ryan. This is way above our aspirations at the moment but there is a great deal of local interest in the history of Atherton Hall and I am sure that the people of Leigh and District would be very interested to see how it appeared in its day. It existed for 100 years but was never fully occupied as the owner died before it was finished. We could fit the house out with traditional décor and have walk through exhibitions - who knows?

    Dave, is this design usable for a freshwater tank? Is there anything that would have to change to use the design for a freshwater tank?

    Do you use carbon reactor on this setup?

    Have you guys thought about using an ATS just as an experiment? What do you think about using them? Thanks

      I'm guessing you mean Algae Turf Scrubber. We really have no need for one as they only help with Nitrates and Phosphates which are all well under control with our current setup.

    Just curious what the 2 boxes under the alk and cal containers are? Stir plates? Very cool video!!

    • @VividAquariums
      @VividAquariums  10 лет назад

      Yes those are Hanna HI190M magnetic stirrers. We use powders to mix our CA, Alk, & Mg. Since it is such a large aquarium we mix them very saturated and the stirrers help to keep everything well mixed.

    That sump has a lot of "cool" zig-zags" but that is about it. It's basically two sumps when you could of made it more simpler by adding one large sump. Besides the first force-down chamber, everything else is pretty plain. Was expecting some sort of cool innovative sump.

    That's not over kill, that's a rip off! Really, all that for 800 gal., even for a reef tank.
