Super explanations but I can't understand the area on which the 4th stress applies. I think it would be πd_3t_1. Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm a 2nd year Mechanical student so I just wanted to know about it. So i don't know whether it is correct or not. Thanks in advance for your answers.
Hello🙂and thanks, 4th stress is shear stress in spigot collar and failure occurs due to shear stress at diameter of spigot collar and the formula is load p divided by area of cross section i.e. pie multiply by d2 multiply by thickness t1 here 👉 pie multiply by d2 is the circumference of the spigot collar inner circle and 👉 t1 is the thickness of spigot collar
