Linda Gray had some of the best lines of the series. My personal favourite was when a drunken Sue Ellen asked J.R. why he suddenly so agreeable, 'Did you find someone new to SLEEP with you TODAY?!" This was after she caught him in bed with Holly Harwood.
Linda Gray's 'alcoholism' acting in the early years of the series was all the viewer needed to realize that lady could act! Her cause was helped by the fact that she, Hagman, and Duffy usually got the best lines.
Cally: "JR told me you were a hopeless drunk, you cheated on him, and you neglected your child". Sue Ellen: "And I suppose after he told you all that, you went to bed with him!" Cally: "How'd you know that?" Such sparkling dialogue in this scene. Kudos to the writers! And then Sue Ellen walks over to JR with murder in her eyes.
I loved that punch! He deserved so many punches back then. Linda Gray and the late Larry Hagman were terrific on Dallas. RIP Larry Hagman, Barbara Bel Geddes, Ken Kercheval, and Jim Davis.
@@rockyracoon3233 I didn’t start till like April until the end of this particular season we should became nicer. Even then, I still had to warm up to her. I just really didn’t care for the character overall during the first 2 1/2 years that she was on the show.
Right wth was she drinking 😂😂she knew Sue Ellen was about to get that butt😂😂this was the best ever👏🏾👏🏾SE with the right cross and JR goes down...😂😂😂bravo!💕💕💕
My favorite scene from the whole series....she finally gave him what he deserved! The show had fallen by this point in time but this was a memorable scene. Sue Ellen was strong and confident and not the drunk woman with low self esteem that she was in the earlier seasons.
Sue Ellen had really grown as a character by this time in the series. No longer was she the long suffering wife. Timid and being bullied by JR. Drowning her sorrows in drink. She had become a successful and independent businesswoman. And tough enough to give JR the punch in the face he always deserved!
Child bride im..rolling. this is hysterical. Finally. J r. Got the punch he deserved the punch of the lifetime omg. Ms Ellie s face is so funny. Dear. God
Sheree Wilson does not get the credit she deserved. She was a highlight of the later years, especially after the cast started breaking up in the later years. She was important in the overall legacy, and it was so sad when she got killed in Paris.
The April character never got the credit she deserved. The character arrived at a time when Dallas was making a major transition. The original cast was starting to depart and the landscape of the show was changing
New man yes, but that was filmed on the Southfork patio soundstage at MGM. It was always pretty obvious when Southfork’s actual patio was used and the soundstage replica.
"What junior high school were you cruising this time?" Kind of what I - and a great many other people - were thinking. Not one of my favorite "Dallas" storylines.
I guess Sue Ellen selectively forgot Nicholas Pearce and Peter Richards. It was because of Sue Ellen, Nicholas Pearce went head first out a window on the 25th floor.
Omg, this scene is everything😂😂😂slumming Your child bride, what high school was you trolling...dammmmmmm💕💕💕I had watch this again, 10,9,8,7etc your out JR😳😳😳😳
Damn! Sue Ellen just laid out JR, and everything. But he had that coming, that's for sure. Sue Ellen didn't do the cheating, he did. But he was right about her being an alcoholic, and neglecting their son. He was right about that, and Carter McKay was the new CEO of Westar, and everything. He was a tough customer by the way.
Sue Ellen never cheated? She sunk low to go after the man JR hated most. JR did most of his bedding to seal a deal, she did it out of spite. Therefore she was worse than him. She was also bedded by his half brother too.
Super Firmino please. JR drove her to it. You're telling me Mandy Winger, Kristin (Sue Ellen's own sister), Katherine Wentworth, Serena, Holly Harwood, and Julie Grey ( to name a few) were for business? Cmon man. Sue Ellen was with Dusty and they couldn't even have sex. That's sainthood
I watched Dallas to the point that April was killed in Paris. Loved April and after the length of time and the off and on again relationship with Bobby, I was done watching the show that I loved from day 1. This scene was hilarious. Everyone played their part perfectly, especially Linda. Cally was cartoonish but I loved this scene and Linda's snide comments before punching JR.
@@PlanetBlake I liked her better when April was nice. I could not stand April her first three seasons as a bad girl. I didn’t feel bad when Tommy beat her up. When she was a nicer person, I felt horrible when she was shot. That was tragic.
Good example of how far the series had fallen at this point. This is basically slapstick comedy, not compelling drama. Compare this Oil Baron's Ball to the one where Cliff won Oil Man of the Year that included great conflict with the Bobby/Jenna/Pam/Mark situation (with JR and Katherine helping it along) and the public explosion of the Barnes/Ewing feud. It's too bad the writing took such a bad turn.
Agree completely. It was well-past time for JR to be free of Sue Ellen, imo, so why not let him be a single father for a while and see what developed? To quickly marry him off again - to a virtual child - was just lazy writing.
James Kennedy the range war was the only entertaining storyline of this season. What's sad is Leonard Katzman, who deserves a lot of credit for writing so many great episodes from the original seasons, was still writing in the last years.
Yeah, he either really lost interest or just got very lazy. I enjoyed the range war storyline but once again, the series fumbled a chance to bring some youth into the series. While George Kennedy was a good Carter McKay, the show didn't need more characters in their 60s so why not make McKay a guy in his 30s? Maybe have him be Jeremy Wendell's son or something. I realize this would have eliminated Carter having two children, Tommy and Tracey, but those characters never went anywhere anyway and they could have always just been used as the brother and sister of a younger version of Carter McKay.
James Kennedy carter was a good addition, but Cally, James and Michelle not so much. By this time so many veteran actors were leaving the show, and it was apparent the writers were struggling to find effective storylines for Ellie and Clayton by having them travel, looking for PO boxes, murderers and whatever.
The whole JR & Cally storyline was mostly a disaster, but did occasionally allow for some pretty funny stuff. Definitely took the show down a notch though and made them look desperate for material.
@@lisadillon8137 : I didn't love her either, but she was tolerable as long as she wasn't with Bobby. When they paired her with Bobby then I couldn't stand her. That was as horrid match.

It's not like JR lied or anything
Sounds like it was JR's M.O., talk shit about Sue Ellen to his latest fling to get the "oh you poor dear" reaction.

It’s actually quite easy if you really get a feel of the horrible things he’s done through the years
Me neither considering he was always drunk and stoned. Eyes were always bloodshot. I'm over here wondering how he even remembered his lines Lmao
April looks like she is dressed up to go to a Halloween party as a "flapper" from the Roaring 20's. Strange dress.
