Larry Hagman was such a phenomenal actor. It's hard to believe this man played Astronaut Tony Nelson from " I dream ofJeannie" from the 60's. A TV Legend.
Replacing Jim Davis seemed like an impossibility, but Howard Keel really did pull it off. A completely different type of actor, but the viewers kept watching.
Yes that is so true. To be honest I'm probably more used to 'Clayton', due to age. I mean 1981 I was last years at primary school but 'Dallas' was massive. Funny to think, that back then even young children, were tuning into this sort of soap/drama, with their Mums!
J.R. Ewing, Alexis Carrington, and Amanda Woodward are THE quintessential soap opera villains, no other soap afterwards could replicate it, because you just can't lol.
When the Who Shot J.R. episodes were running, all you needed to know as to J.R. was that the police considered his mother a suspect along with the cast of thousands.

JR is legendary. My goodness what a charming, passive aggressive, manipulative, adulteress, convincing man he was. He had more tricks up his sleeve than 'Houdini', in escaping slippery situations.
Oh...he ran out of ‘tricks’ a time or two...at which point he used mock vulnerability and remorse that was so good we’d actually believe he meant it. 😈
Oh, yeah, I watched "Dallas" with my Family as a kid, I remember it!!!! Because it's a great example of how Men and Women used to be...MEN. AND. WOMEN.
I hated when Sue Ellen would stab Bobby, Pam, Ray etc.... in the back when she was on good terms with J.R. When he was cruel to her she would go whine to them.
Just like Kristin she sleeps with Jr hoping to be the next Jr Ewing yet she ended up shooting him in the end because she realized she was no different than any other person he screws over.
JR Ewing just had a way with words. Larry Hagman was PERFECT for that part. He wouldn't dare think about doing something like that to his dad, Jock Ewing. Jock would chew him up and spit him out. Jock to JR: "JR, this is the way it's going to be, and you damn well better get used to it." JR to Jock. "Yes sir."
The actor playing James is AWFUL. It's almost like a parody of acting. Every sentence is so affected and "dramatic". He should have been forced to follow Larry around the set for a year and watch how a real actor works.
Sasha Mitchell cannot act. Point blank period! I remember he was written off the sitcom Step By Step because he was arrested and eventually jailed spousal abuse. He’s a real piece of work.😒
J.R. Was very nosy when he asked his mother and then he tells her he will fight her on his father’s will. J.R. Only cares about what he wants. My siblings & I would never dare ask our parents questions about what didn’t concern us.
At that point in his life, JR was damaged goods. He treated Sue Ellen like crap but still had a weird love for her so any woman afterwards had to deal with his baggage and resentment to women.
Dallas is my all time favorite show but I didn’t care for the exterior of the ranch filmed in the studio after they leave the real SouthFork after the Ewing Barbecue when the on location scenes were filmed at the beginning of the season.

Miss. Ellie knitting as you would see many older women doing in the 70s. She was a good character chiming as a mother would.
