Cumbrian Farming 2024. Spring ploughing with a brand new MF 6S.180

- After weeks of rain the sun has at last made an appearance in Cumbria so it was a great to step out into the fields that have fortunately dried up enough for cultivation work to finally begin . It’s been a Massey Ferguson couple of days so far, I’ve filmed four in action so hope I don’t bore you with my first uploads of red & greys (hopefully a variety of colour to come soon!) The first ploughing outfit I’ve filmed this year is a combination of a brand-spanking new Massey Ferguson 6S.180 and Kveneland 4-furrow reversible plough. With 180hp on tap the new MF was walking away with the plough even on the uphill climb of the field. Also it had a very good turning circle making the headland turns very easy. A nice days outing as I also managed to film one of the farms classic MFs rolling the grass pastures (video to follow) but unfortunately time caught up with me and I couldn’t capture the muck spreading that was also going on (there’s always a next time!)

Thanks Steve. Yes it was a bit sticky, definitely the diff lock needed in places! At least there were blue skies (can’t say that about these last few days) and a nice shiny new Massey to focus on. Cheers, David.
Brilliant video David! Great to finally see some dry weather, it has felt like a never ending winter this year! I was starting to think it would never dry up...
Thanks Jacob. Yes it’s been horrendous weather, can’t ever remember such a wet winter. I’m so pleased it’s dried up as I’ve managed to get out to five farms this last few days (no silage yet) and finally get some footage! Cheers, David.

Morning David, what a brilliant sight to see field work getting going, as I am sure its been the same down your way with rain as its been up here. Got to say that MF6S looked pretty sleek and I do feel that MF have came a long way in improving the aesthetics of their range after a few years of being a bit old fashioned and very square in design. The Kverneland plough was making a great job and looked to be well set up by the operator who was also keep a very straight furrow. (Bit of a thing with me having been given a very hard time as a youngster if I did not keep it straight). Hope you are keep well David and look forward to seeing your adventures throughout the year.
Afternoon Fraser, great to hear from you. Oh it’s been fantastic to be out in the fields again, been a lovely few days weatherwise, hopefully it’ll continue. Yes the 6S range is very stylish, I’ve been out filming some older MF models the last few days and the styling is so different 30 years on! Yes very good ploughman especially when it’s a new tractor to him and yes my ploughing resembled a dogs back leg! I’m very well Fraser, out filming today but instead of the fields I’m by the sea at Powfoot which is close to us (Google map it, its beautiful) and if you’re ever up this way it’s well worth a visit! Hopefully plenty more farming videos to come. I’ve got 3 to edit! Best wishes Fraser. Cheers David.

@@davidwinthrop7077 Thanks David. Had a look and wow Powfoot sure looks beautiful and I can see why you want to be filming. Never spent much time around the south of Scotland and your area, so its maybe time for me to explore..

It is Fraser and very peaceful, well worth a visit and Golf Hotel (where we’re having chips and cake now) is a stone throw from the sea so well worth a visit! No tractors present but a lovely day out in the sun!
