    Beavers, as cute as they are, can be extremely destructive. It’s odd for me to see all the measures you have taken to introduce them to your property, but that’s only because they are viewed differently where I’m from (southeast US). Hopefully they bring what you are looking for. Where I live, they are considered a nuisance rodent and many landowners have them eradicated. I lost many trees on my property and had to wrap the trunks of the survivors in heavy gauge wire mesh. Luckily the beavers didn’t like my Live Oaks for some reason. It would have been very difficult to see those mighty trees go down. One summer my neighbor planted 20 fruit trees, went away for the weekend, and when he came home there wasn’t a single one standing.

    • @SM-ke6jq
      @SM-ke6jq Год назад

      @@meeples7599 No doubt, but I think it depends on where the ecosystem is. Away from people, I agree with you they have their place such as we see here in Mapperton. But where I live beavers are increasingly making their way into the suburban environment and wreaking havoc on our landscaping. Nearby farmers are constantly battling them as well.

    On our land here in Quebec - Canada, the beavers are woking hard too, helping us to keep the level of our lake high and the wetlands in good shape. We are also, however, watching them so they don't put down trees elsewhere on the estate, so biodiversity is preserved. Bravo and keep up with this tremendous work!

    Ah the beavers fell trees to dam streams and build lodges for comfort and protection and store up tree bits for food for winter. Your accommodation just didn't suit them. After inspecting they said "all teeth to the ready, we need to build this before the deep winter sets in and its too cold to work." We want to be comfy and safe in our new home. Generally they choose smaller trees, but with a limited workforce and no time to spare, they've gone after larger stock. Bless them but I think by protecting the ones they've chosen, they will seek out others to fell as they need to get the job done. I do hope they are microchipped in case they manage to wander. I love that you've taken this project on.
