You two are my favorite!!! Has the Wall Street Journal followed you two?? They should. You are creative, inspirational, and a joy to watch. I look forward to your blog every week.
We get bats in our cottage all the time! Best way to get them out: open a window and set a lit flashlight on the sill. Shut off all of the lights. It will find the open window and fly out very quickly!
Hope mom and kittens find good homes. This week we too trapped a mom cat and 4 kittens. Took 2 days of searching for the hidden kittens but we (many people came together to help) got them all. I wish people would be responsible cat owners and spay and neuter. Here in the city in Canada most cats live indoors but there are still too many left to fend for themselves. Hope you and Lincoln have a better week coming up Amanda.
As if they are saying, “What? A few teeth marks bother you? Our feline selves are not concerned!” About the WAPO article, I will try to find it. Your chateau looks beautiful as always. Glad you visited another one during Heritage Days-and decided yours was the correct size! About the bat, do you have chimney screens for all the chimneys? Or could one have slipped? The beauty that surrounds you must help, when you get a chance to look around. Thanks again for sharing your challenges and victories!
Bats can accidentally crash into you and transmit rabies virus without your noticing a scratch or a bite: The Rabies Deaths Were Likely Preventable Two of the bat-associated cases in fall 2021 were considered avoidable exposures, according to the report. One was attributed to a bat roost in the person’s home, the other to the person picking up the bat with his bare hands. In two of the cases, the person released the bat after contact had occurred instead of capturing it for testing. One patient captured and submitted the bat for testing but refused treatment, even though the bat tested positive for the rabies virus, because of a long-standing fear of vaccines. The two other people who died from rabies did not realize the risk for rabies from their exposures, either because they did not notice a bite or scratch or did not recognize bats as a potential source of rabies. It’s important to note that bat bites don’t always cause a visible mark but can still spread rabies through infected saliva. Any direct contact with a bat should be assessed by your doctor or a clinical health provider, according to the CDC.
I appreciate your hard work and dedication in restoring the chateau and including us in the trials and triumphs of your journey. It is so inspiring. When I find my cottage in France, I realise that it will not be “smooth sailing” every day. However, I will know how fortunate I am and that will help keep my dream intact. Lincoln and Amanda you are doing such a remarkable job with your home and your dedication to it is so encouraging. Thank you for bringing us with you 🇫🇷
Thanks for the video! I hope this week goes better for you. Thanks for helping the kitties, I hope you can find homes for them. I have a black cat, and she is a sweetheart.
@@annlyon.2040 I rather have that mess than face creams with all kinds of harmful ingredients. I shower as soon as i get home from work, and dab the oil on my face, by the time I go to bed its absorbed into my skin.
Well.....Halloween is around the corner if that is any consolation 🦇🦇...& black cats too! I love the drone footage...the green space surrounding your Château is wonderful ❤
You spread your fingers and tap the top of your head ,then your forehead, then two fingers below your nose, then two below your lip.goodnight, even works during night if you should wake up!sorry beginning use bothe hands for top oh head
Aren’t those Kittens cutie they look like they may have a long coat too , not so much around there heads but down there backs . I hope they find a great home . 🐈⬛😻
Insomnia? Magnesium is your friend. Purchase it in pill form in supermarkets or a pharmacy. Better yet, a chocolate store. Dark chocolate is very high in magnesium.
Bonjour Amanda and Lincoln, everything looks nice around the Chateau, now that Fall has arrived, I was thinking about the hunters and hoping they keep their distance from you. Yup, I see two donkeys, how nice to be recognized for all your hard labor by the WSJ, the kittens are cute, I hope they and mom find good homes. Thanks for rescuing them in the interim. Love from N.Y.
Good to know I am not the only one sleeping more than 3-4 hours a night. You have a full life, perhaps keeping so many plates spinning in the air is overburdening your psyche. So, what are the things in your life that make you sleepy? What are the things that are keeping you awake? Can you wall yourself off from the world in the middle of the day and crawl under a homemade quilt? Works for me. How about running away from home by taking a long drive in a warm car, stop off somewhere to shop in a few antique stores, have lunch at a bistro, read a book and have a glass of wine. That might knock you out for a while. Got yoga, no drugs or alcohol needed. Too much on your plate, ready for a visit to the happy farm? My father's mother used to check herself into the local asylum as each child reached puberty, sometimes she would be gone for months at a time. Worked for her. Wishing the best for you from a very sunny Central California.
Chamomile tea before might help. I usually fix it right when I'm ready crawl into bed. Drink the tea while in bed so you can just close your eyes and fade to sleep. Hope this helps.
For me, No coffee in the afternoon, Magnesium glycinate ? helped me out alot since I have thyroid issues no thank's to mandated Vaccines. I love bats, they eat bugs. I just get an old bath towel and throw it over one at a time and take it out side. sounds like you have more than one in that room
You are hilarious! Love seeing your adventures. Should Lincoln need an effective way to remove bats I once saw a coworker fling her cardigan sweater at a bat. It was an effective bat trap, going down in the sweater. She then released it outdoors. 😅
Between bats and a cat eating drones what a start! I suspect sabotage on the part of the bird. Wall Street Journal?!? Does that mean the donkeys are celebrities now? Will they be demanding a bigger house as a result ;-> Love the video. Thanks for doing such a great job. Oh and the croissants look fantastic!
Think I can help with your sleep (all natural). I’ll see if I can track a way to email you. Yes just sent one. The channel Stories from the Cascina in Italy might want a cat?? They adopted a black feral one who went missing. I’ll comment on their page about yr vid. Xx
In some cultures bats are considered highly auspicious, so you can consider it a really good sign - esp. the bigger the better! For insomnia; NO caffeine. Stop machines w/screens at least an hour before lights out. Then once in bed, on your back lift one limb a few inches and tighten everything...squeeze for the count of 10 -15 (or whatever feels right), then let it drop. Then another limb etc...then the lower torso, mid torso, upper torso, head & neck. Then do the whole body once or twice. I find doing the squeezing on the exhale works well. This should give you good restful sleep. Ok girl, did you make those croissant from scratch?? No wonder you're not getting any sleep. Bon reve.
You say wrong I say right - successfully looking after a young mother and her kittens, a trip to a chateau you might have bought for 4 mill but didn't, glorious zinnias in that little pot, feeding your donkeys, daughter's bedroom looks magnifique --- and glorious croissants and frothy coffee - you've got it made in the shade and in the sunshine.
Well l enjoy watching your channel and I don’t read the Wall Street Journal. Interesting that they chose to write negative things about you because I quite enjoy your content. I can’t believe you got more cats to take care of. It’s gonna be hard to let them go go.
I had 2 mother cats and 9 kittens and one mama was pregnant again put out on me one summer. Then another black cat walked up adding to the number. the mama gave birth to another 5. We homed everyone of them (it was a chore) but the black cat. She is mine now and one of the sweetest cats I have ever had. Black cats are so underrated!
chamomile, lavender, lemon balm, mint, sage and calendula or rose....gosh i know there are others! but any herbs that help to calm your nervous system and/or induce sleep. also, warm milk and melatonin (its in the vitamin section). hope that you sleep deeply and your dreams are sweet :) i almost forgot, having suffered from insomnia for my entire life (40 yrs) ive discovered that since having kids i cant consume caffeine anymore and have actually stopped drinking coffee(consuming any caffeine) for sleep and anxiety reasons. i hope the cats get adopted too!
Thank you for another great video the scenery was beautiful nice you still have flowers to cut buttoning up the rest of gardens this week in southern Ontario Canada waxing car decks all done ahead of the game first time ever all by myself so pleased as still working at 70 cleaning the Hall at local yacht club done Dec 31ts cannot wait ! My time every day lots to do will not great board ! Sewing machine coming out in next two weeks recover cushions on a rocker and throw pillows for new sofa coming in November! Excited ! Look forward to next week's video ever thought of doing a cooking video ?!
I have been listening to the soothing almost hypnotic and positively „boring“ episodes of the podcast „Nothing much happens“. After a few times I started falling asleep in the first few minutes. There are just a few episodes which I heard up to the middle of the story, most of the time I fall asleep after 5-10 minutes (on Spotify, for free). When there is new or full moon I sometimes need 3 mg of melatonin, which is closely related to serotonin, the body‘s own „tranquilizer “. A natural pillow and room spray just a few minutes before going to bed helps me too, most contain lavender and other soothing essential oils (I get a wonderful organic spray from Aroma-Zone in France). Magnesium and a few mg of reishi mushroom powder can be game changers too.
Love your vlogs. Those kittens are adorable 😻😻😻😻😻I always had the best sleep after a yoga session in the evening. I wasn’t good at it at first. That and a cup of sleepy time tea with honey. Hope this week goes better for you 😻😘
I enjoy your videos. A bunch of years ago, I woke up in a dark room and saw a fast circling up on the ceiling above my head. In my sleepiness I said to myself “oh I must have turned on the ceiling fan” then I screamed and said to myself, “I don’t have a ceiling fan! It was a bat! I ran out of the room slamming the door with the duvet on my head, waited for the sun to rise and gave my son a call. He wasn’t happy. Hours later, he removed the bat. ❤
What’s up with the bedroom makeover? I couldn’t tell if it was green. Looking forward to seeing the big reveal. Good luck with the sleeping thing. If you find out how to get a solid seven hours you can tell us all!
For insomnia, aka trouble sleeping, I have been taking 3mg of melatonin before bed to help me fall asleep and stay asleep. Not sure if it menopause related or what, but a consistently good night sleep has been tricky for me for years. My dr. Suggests meditation, no caffeine after noon, no alcohol etc. Still, I could not sleep through. Melatonin has been working for me.
I'm thinking that the article in the WSJ was more about the # of Americans moving abroad and using you as an example of what they believe the life will be like. What they forget to realize is that moving out of the US is a personal choice that their narrow conservative minds will never be able to grasp. Your weekly vlogs are interesting to watch and what you are accomplishing is truly a reflection of your skills ,desires, and creativity to build a beautiful home and life in France. Keep up the great weekly vlogs .
Cognitive behavior therapy has been found very effective for insomnia. There are online programs that you can connect with that provide this specific evidence. Based treatment. I am a clinical psychologist with over 50 years experience and I don’t think you could find a better way to go. Good luck.
Just make sure you put a hat on because if the bat gets stuck in your hair, it might not be a good experience! We used to have a bathouse at our house and then when I moved to the seacoast and lived in a converted Rivermill building, they used to fly up in the stairwells between floors. Somehow one got into my condo and it just kept dive bombing at me and I just kept trying to get it with a broom to go out …..what scared me the most was that I was on the end of the building and no one even came to see if something was wrong because I kept screaming every time it came at me. That was an eye-opener. No one cared about anyone in that building. Later, someone down the hall told me that he was able to catch one between two tennis rackets and get it outside again. Back to me, at one point the bat was so tired it was crawling on the floor and I didn’t know what to do because I couldn’t whack it. And then it disappeared. I called the Batman as he was called down there and he told me if I saw it to call him and he would come and get it and set it free. Needless to say, I slept with the light on for weeks.
All your visuals were really beautiful. Also, sorry to hear about WSJ. I would counter; if an artist works 24-7, 7 days a week, there must be something the artist loves about it. I suspect the same is true for the two of you. It is a lot of work but you have to be creative, work through problems, collaborate, take good care of your health, love what you are doing and love the end results. WSJ has been slipping for years. tsk, tsk, tsk.
Another great video. Insomnia is an ongoing battle for me. Three years in, no figuring out how to stop it. Hopefully you can find something that will help you. Those croissants look delicious.
If you are having difficulties falling asleep, or wake up in the middle of the night and can't fall asleep, try eating a pat of butter and go back to bed. Chances are, you 'll fall asleep.
Insomnia - I’ve had some success with light therapy. The same kind of thing used for seasonal depression. It has an impact on circadian rhythms, and can reset your sleep cycle. At the very least, no significant side effects.
Kudos to you two - for all your hard work and sharing your chateau projects with us! I look forward to your videos and all that you share! Love how you have shaped everything to make yours a beautiful home!!!
Love your sense of humour which I imagine is a must have when restoring a chateau, your home is beautiful as are all your animals. Thanks for sharing..
It is so beautiful where you live. I love the drone shots and fantsize that i could live there - I couldn’t as I don’t have the skills and work ethic that you two have but still, its nice to dream 😊
I look forward to your videos! Your one of my favorite.
Mine too.
Me too!
Mine too. I often fall behind due to babysitting duties but then I catch up.
I am now taking bets on how many black cats you’ll end up keeping. They are adorable. Great visit, thank you

Ok. Funny question from an American. Is a French Drain in France just called a Drain?? LOL
Nope! Named after an American named Henry French. How is that for random!
We get bats in our cottage all the time! Best way to get them out: open a window and set a lit flashlight on the sill. Shut off all of the lights. It will find the open window and fly out very quickly!

Insomnia is the pits!!!! I think your chateau is the perfect size for a small family. Sorry the week was not a stellar one....
Insomnia: strict sleep schedule, boring book @ bedside, melatonin, some say chamomile. Boring book is my go to.

for insomnia - try a podcast called "the Sleepy Bookshelf". A very soothing voice reads classic stories
Wow, that bat was big! Shouldn't he wear some kind of gear when tackling them, or do they not have rabies?
I wish you luck finding homes for the cat family.
Love your sense of humour which I imagine is a must have when restoring a chateau, your home is beautiful as are all your animals. Thanks for sharing..
so creative and the photography is gorgeous. really love your videos. hope you find homes for those beautiful kitties and their momma.
It is so beautiful where you live. I love the drone shots and fantsize that i could live there - I couldn’t as I don’t have the skills and work ethic that you two have but still, its nice to dream 😊
For sleep get an audio book and set it to 60 mins switch off. I can recommend Poirot for a sufficiently somnolent pace.
I’m absolutely loving this music 🎶
l was wondering where you both were as l need my fix . Love your channel.
