But does anyone find it odd that referees in this world cup are so obsessed with asking players to retake penalties?
I think the precedent is this tournament. After this, keepers who stepped both feet over the line before the kick will all follow suit - yellow-carded and penalty re-taken.

Agree. Keepers like DeGea etc. get away with worse "early movement" all the time.
They changed the rules at the beginning of June, now you have to have a foot on the line. A lot of goalies in major leagues in Europe are going to be sent off this season if they’re not careful

@Jauneault Nicolas, how about some French that were not happy about the said situation. The thing is, in Nigeria's case, the keeper didn't make a contact with the ball. Also, I think people are now getting used to the new rule. In any case, the rule has to stand.

Disappointed Scotland let a 3-0 slip away however they have been unlucky with VAR in this tournament. Most keepers over the years have step forward off the line and very rarely get pulled up for, even the opponents didn't call for retakes.
It always looks worst in slow motion. VAR have been too strict with this rule and it's not fair on the keeper who made a great save.
It's a new rule, this will happen a lot this season

People blaming VAR when it's the rules that needs revising. VAR is there to enforce the rules more clearly and not its fault that you have that controversial rule that you have to have at least one foot on the line during a penalty.
VAR correctly judged the penalty, no issue there.
VAR correctly spotted her foot off the line. No issue there. Again, the issue it with the rule.
With VAR, Maradona's "Hand of God" goal would not have counted. Unless you have a rule that says the handball counts.
I really don't see the issue with VAR but again with the rules!

Big statement but since you sure seem to be a big fan of exaggerating things, sure.
But what has it got to do with VAR? I just said that's the rule that FIFA chose to implement. Nothing to do with VAR. So you rather just let the referee guess if the keeper was off her line rather than use VAR?
You rather the referee just make a mistake about the penalty during that SCO vs ARG game since she initially waved the penalty shout from Argentina. She was obviously proven wrong once she looked at the replay.
People only notice the negatives brought about VAR enforcing rules and not the positives.
I have zero love for that rule myself (the ones concerning the GK during a penalty), but both teams need to follow that, not just that the team you support, if that is THE RULE. VAR just makes sure the referee makes the correct decision. What is so hard to digest from that?
@@cst256 what I guess @David is saying is, in the mens game, the ref sometimes decide not to check VAR. That's the element of "common sense" he's talking about. I think we are all in agreement that the rule is impractical but the refs seeming to think it's just fine, makes them look incompetent in my opinion.
