Meryl Streep has a house in Aspen where she spends a few months of the year. According to the locals she only answers to the name of Mrs Green . My friend who is Australian , stays at a ski lodge near Meryl's home. One morning as he walked past he saw her on the balcony drinking a coffee , he said loudly " good morning Mrs Green " & she looked at him and smiled and replied " good morning kind Sir ".

You try to actually become the role you’re playing, but in the process you lose your personal traits and it’s not always convincing. I really believe that if Merly was actor in the times of classic hollywood actresses she would have far less noms and wins.Its just that there are less competition in this time compared to past.
The part about the 21 noms is actually a very good point. And I don’t mean to take away any of Meryl’s brilliance. As one commenter put it, there just aren’t a lot of great roles for women. It’s interesting that in the 1990s, Julia Roberts became the first female to make the top 10 box office draws in many years (J-Law and Scarlett Johansson May have made the list since). But back in the day, Betty Grable, Doris Day, Shirley Temple and other women were among the top ten box office draws. Now it’s almost always made up of men.
I think it proves that Hollywood is incestuous, a small in-group of insulated, isolated people who sneer at average Americans, Christians and working people.

It is bull that Streep didn't know about Wienstein. My spouse has worked in Hollywood circles for years, and everyone knew about him. EVERYONE. For Streep to posture as a champion of women and the Me Too movement was adding insult to injury. She should have remained humbly silent. It is embarrassing to watch her pile on the bull.
She is chosen to more roles ( not withstanding her brilliant acting skills) simply because she looks like any of us ordinary people , something that Sharon pointed out on her comment. Whereas an actress with a more glamorous look would be rather confined to a certain type of a character.

Meryl Streep nailed it in Sophie's Choice. Since then everyone else is playing catch up.
Yes she does nail it in Sophie's Choice but in the nearly forty years since that film what has she done to equal that performance? Margaret Thatcher doesn't even come close.

I’m no actress, but it does seem like it would be more difficult to so impressively portray a fictitious character - as Viola did in “The Help” - than it would be to beautifully play a real-life person as did Meryl. Viola really had to look deep within herself to play that role. Meanwhile, Meryl had plenty of video and audio to review, and she could also talk to many people that knew PM Thatcher. Viola was simply superb - in a really good motion picture. Meryl did a great impersonation of Maggie Thatcher - in a really terrible film. Just my opinion - so don’t slam me. Like I said, I’m not an actress.

Really? I thought she has been much better in other roles. She's overrated in that movie because of the accent. She did a good job to get that accent in such a short time. However, her performance in that movie, IMO, left much to be desired. It was over the top acting at some points.
Referencing Sophie's choice as a movie displaying her acting talents (not her accent learning ability) is probably not the best choice.

You are kidding me right? Her portrayal of Lindy Chamberlain was down right awful. In the same way her portrayal of Margaret Thatcher was a caricature. She over acts and the plenty think that is what you have to do. Hepburn seen it obviously. Some actors are tremendous mimics, yet the great ones tone it down during the making of a film. Reason being is that they are at risk of overshooting the mark.

Especially Glen Close, she could have been perfect the role in devil wears Prada. She was good as cruela de vil but that was a a cartoon character but she would be perfect for a role based on true person like Anna Wintour.

I haven't seen most of Merle Streep's movies because they seem to come out so fast I can't keep up with them. It would be expensive to have a Merle Streep DVD film collection. She's been around for quite awhile now. I don't know if she's overrated ! What's that all about ?
But I will say that any time I've seen her on a talk show where she can be real - I found her just THAT. Real. I think Merle Streep is a nice person. And a grateful person for all that she has.

Sure we do. :) She played Aunt March in "Little Women," a movie scheduled to release December of this year. "Let Them Talk" is in post-production right now, and she's cast as Dee Dee Allen in "The Prom" which is currently in pre-production. She also played Donna in "Here We Go Again" which came out last year.
Meryl is still very keeping her career alive and thriving.

I don't equate Hepburn's disdain with jealousy, but I do question her taste. I have enjoyed various performances of Julia Roberts and Melanie Griffith, but to put either of them on par with Streep is ridiculous. They are talented, absolutely, but not in her league. Streep's contemporaries include Sigourney Weaver, Jessica Lange, and Glenn Close, all of whom I consider to rival her in ability and talent.

I agree with Katherine Hepburn on Meryl Streep's acting. She acts with her head not with her heart I'm not moved by ANYTHING she does and her movies are very Bland but she's not a bad actress.
I've never cared for Meryl's acting but couldn't put my finger on the reason until Hepburn's assessment at 10:03 nailed it. But alas, Meryl is the new Hollywood's sacred cow so they won't dare to acknowledge it.

It’s just life, when people are “on top”, or “the most recognizable”, (for whatever reason), people will ALWAYS try and knock you down. Personally I love her work. But we’ve ALL probably either known, or experienced a situation where a person that seems to always get recognized first (even if they deserve it) SOMEONE is going to have something negative to say. That’s just people being people. I have an idea that Meryl couldn’t give two sh#$ about the negative comments.
