  • In episode 2 of 2019 Wyoming Elk, are still in the pursuit of a bull elk for Uncle Larry. The temps are low and combined with the wind, it makes glassing difficult to do for extended periods of time. Randy insists that Larry stays in the truck as much as he can, while Randy climbs different ridges to try and glass up a public land bull.
They locate a herd of bulls, that Randy think he can get Uncle Larry to within shooting distance off. Due, to Larry's medical conditions he isn't allowed to hike very far off the road. They make their way up to try and cut off the herd of bulls.
Able to get within range, Larry gets set up with his sights on a bull. They try to communicate which is the bull that he should shoot and that is where things take a twist.

Uncle Larry episodes are some of my favorite! I see myself being so much like him when I'm his age! Just a funny foul mouthed old man that takes life as it comes! He's very lucky to have you Randy to still take him out even with all the complications along the way, because allot of people would look at that as to much trouble! Good on you and congratulations Uncle Larry! Any bull on public land is a trophy in my book!!! Thanks for sharing! What a great hunt!

Just a simple congratulations to Uncle Larry. My Dad turns 80 this year and we’ve been discussing his 2020 elk hunt. We go every year and though he doesn’t venture out from the road system like he used, we still hike the hills and poke around in the mountains for a week or two together. He and Larry are cut from the same cloth and they just don’t make humans as tough as they used to anymore. Respect for all involved. Well done!

Two tough ol' birds doing what they love. One of my favorite episodes.
I will never forget the last hunt I did with my dad before he passed. We were in the bull mountain area just south of the mussleshell. 40* with 30 mph NW winds. Dad got out in a flannel shirt and a vest. We did an evening hunt and he passed and a nice whitetail. I know the feeling of not being able to repay someone the gratitude you owe. Dad was one.
    Thanks Randy you did well.

Randy, Thanks for another great episode. What makes this hunt so good is to see you make it happen for your Uncle Larry. He will never forget this hunt and neither will you. "Life's battles don't always go to the stronger or faster man, but sooner or later the man who wins is the man who thinks he can". With you as a copilot, how could he not succeed. That was a tough hunt for Larry, but you made it happen for him. You helped him to achieve what others his age are wishing they could have done as they watched from a recliner. Larry you have a great bull, a wonderful nephew and a forever memory. Congrats!!!

Awesome, congratulations Larry. At 72 I try to count my blessings, so many others have and do endure so much more, I have nothing to complain about. So far only one heart attack. It was 12 years ago on an Elk . It started first thing in the morning a 100 yards from the truck, but I didn't know what it was. It was just a funny feeling in my throat and I didn't feel so good. That afternoon my two partners and I were standing at junction of 2 old logging roads waiting to meet up with my son and brother-in-law when we heard a shot over the hill above us. We got our guns from the truck in time to see a5x5 come out of the timber into the clear cut 265 yards (we ranged it later) above us . There was no way to get a rest and still see the elk over the brush in front of us. The three of us started shooting off hand standing. I shoot only twice, one partner said he thought I nocked him down. We ran up the hill, well I tried to run because that's when it started to really hit we, I knew something was wrong. My son and brother-in-law showed up and helped us half the bull and drag it down to the trucks. On the way to town I passed out, when I wake they had 911 on the line . A ride in an ambulance, a flight in a helicopter, and a week in the hospital all was well and we had an elk at the butcher. We were never sure who hit the elk , there was 8or9 shots fired. The bull was mounted for me as my 'Heart Attack Elk' . About a year later one of my partners opened a package of meat , there was a smaller package inside with a mushroomed bullet and a note from the butcher that said "kill shot ". The bullet was from my .338 RUM. The other two were shooting a .270 and a .30-06. I have nothing to complain about.

That was a awesome hunt with uncle Larry, glad you guys could make another video, you need to have uncle jim and robin take you guys out moose hunting again and video that. Get a few of the Stickler’s together and really make the folks watching have a good laugh at how crazy fun they are to be around in our neck of the woods in Alaska. Good job to all you guys. Thanks for sharing with all of us.

You would have to be there for supervision. You know we couldn't trust all of them together in a camp.

Randy Newberg, Hunter I got a couple pictures I would like to share with you of a couple moose hunts. One with seven bulls in six day and one with moose and caribou. I hunt a lot like you do and not like uncle him and the boys do, we hunt the mountains and spot and stock. We have a good time just like you guys do. I went with uncle Larry deer hunting in southeast one time and what a fun guy to hang out with.

I feel like I've learned a lot in a short period of time, thanks to the content you post. Appreciate you sharing your invaluable experience, until people like me can gain their own.
