Chevrolet Traverse - HOW TO RECHARGE / REFILL A/C AIR CONDITIONING BY YOURSELF

- Step-by-step guide on recharging / refilling AC air conditioner by yourself on Chevy Traverse SUV using a/c recharge kit. This video will apply to any Chevrolet Traverse, only difference will be the location of the low pressure a/c charging port.
To start you will need a/c recharge kit which usually comes with two or three cans of a/c refrigerant. A/c recharge hose can be reused as many times as you wish, so you will only have to buy new a/c freon cans for every new recharge.
Connect a/c refrigerant can to one side of the hose and connect other side of the hose to the low pressure charging port. Now pierce the a/c can by turning the knob on top of it all the way in. Start the vehicle, turn on the A/C and set fan speed to highest setting. Now start releasing the knob on the can to charge the a/c system. Make sure to keep monitoring the gauge on the a/c recharge hose. You have to be careful not to overcharge the system as it might damage the a/c compressor. Once you are done and happy with the results you can turn off the engine and disconnect the hose. If you need to add 1 more ac refrigerant can then just repeat the process from the beginning.
All this will work in case there is no major leaks in the a/c lines and a/c compressor is working properly. In case of a leak you will have to take the vehicle to a professional mechanical shop for diagnostics and possible repair.
In case of a small leak you can try using a/c leak stop which sometimes fixes and seals small leaks.

My traverse has a dual AC system
You should never load refrigerant as a liquid into the low pressure side (can upside down) always right side up into the low pressure side. you can flood the system and cause damage. the low side is the gas side the high side is the liquid side of the system. also never load refrigerant into the high side
How many cans does it take to fill?
There should be a sticker on the radiator support showing the capacity. It will depend whether you have rear a/c or no. Each can will also have written on it how much refrigerant is in it. Usually it will say "Equivalent to XXX R134A" or something similar. If system completely empty it will be around 2 cans. When charging make sure to monitor the gauge.
It don’t have the sticker yes it has rear ac also
@@michaelalexander1534 If completely empty it should take around 2.5 cans. If there is some refrigerant in the system then less. Just monitor the gauge while charging and you will be good
