I had a record which paired this with La Mer. I think it was Fritz Reiner and the Chicago Symphony. The more I listen and the older I grow , the more I think the pairing was genius !
Richard Strauss should have listened to his critics. He was a master of the orchestra but his music lacked memorable melodies and recognizable destinations (his music seems disjointed).
Yes, one could say that. It also lacks any real deep message, but at the same time his music was and is like no other, and its original beauty and density always make an impression. I've been performing the violin sonata for many years, and it's one of my favorite pieces in the repertoire.
The Bavarian Radio Orchestra is world class. Bravo
What Joy it is to see the late maestro Mariss Jansons conducting! This is a glorious piece written by Strauss in 1888!

Orchestra Radio Bavarese, la mia preferita.
Grazie! ❤

A wonderful composition by Richard Strauss! completed by a great performance of the Bav. Radio Symph. Orchestra ! 👋👋👋
I still say the Cleveland Orchestra with George Szells is the best and most exciting with Strauss and Wagner.
Absolutely in their element & in the pocket.
Оч хорошее исполнение шедевра!
Great performance
Fantastic performance!
at 0:51, the maestro was asking: "well you guys are ready for the audition piece?"
This is amazing I just saw my local orchestra perform and it was quite good but this is another level of quality
Maravilloso
16:40 second horn call... Very good 📯📯📯📯
Slower then usual, but gives you more time to savor and enjoy!
Bravi tutti!
Favoloso!!!!!
Che gran direttore, Jansons!! Un Don Giovanni da brividi!

best oboe solo!! 8:25
A muscular version…just play loud.
A bit pedantic. Needs to be faster
What a boring rendition. Nothing happens. Maris was truly overrated.
What we call a “practice tempo” at the beginning.
@@DT-622 That's a good way to describe it.

It's good that he didn't listen to the critics.
