Your explanation as to why you use a high end camera and therefore why you use a mechanical keyboard is such a great breakdown for why we invest in anything that might be perceived as "overkill" or "unnecessarily expensive" for our hobbies and interests. Using gear that you are excited about, or a tool that inspires your passion and in turn directly contributes to the overall quality of your work or end result is justification enough. Just hearing that explained so succinctly just really made me happy and I say that the proof is in your product and process. Really great videos. Liked and subscribed. Can't wait to see more, Man!
This was not only about Mechanical Keyboards. This was just relaxing for me and a lesson to love what we can do every day and to enjoy life a little more. Thank you!
i just started with my little gk61 ....then i saw taeha and his videos.... 1 week later i was lubing my switches, changed keycaps and bandaid modding my stabs and boooyyy i truly feel and hear the difference !! i know i will never be able to buy me this expansive 2k keýboards but its ok for me cause u can have a nice one only by watching and learning from taeha... im verryy thankfull for that ! Greets from germany!
Thank you and TaeKeyboards for introducing me to this great hobby! I’ve been enjoying it and inspired tremendously. Hope to reach the levels you both have achieved! 😊 Blessings! 💯
i found out about both Nathan and TaeKeyboards from the comment section of a Linus Tech Tips video about making a custom mech with solid brass keycaps and I am forever grateful for it. i found out there are so many amazing keyboards that exist. I just put together my own with a GMMK and Halo Clears.
I've literally used the same exact Filico Majestouch-2 with Blue switches for over 8 years straight now, and I spend over 6 hours a day on average on my computer, I just finally was forced to replace my keycaps but the board is still going strong. 100% worth the investment and has brought me a ton of joy.
Hi Taeha, you inspired me to bring this community to my country (Brazil), which has nothing in this world except the conventional mechanical keyboards from stores (Razer, logitech, hyperx), which are very good, but really lacking the differential of being able to offer an exclusive, unique, personalized product that can please only those who assembled it. I am currently doing market research and contacting these specialized stores so that I can bring this market here. I really appreciate your work, dedication and the quality of the content you offer on the channel. Strong hug.
I just finished my first custom build two weeks ago (60% with arrows and 2.25 LShift, Creams, KBDfans 5deg case, brass plate, Razer PBT keycaps). This is the first time in months that I feel motivated to work every single day, and enjoy every second of it. The feel, the sound, the looks of my keyboard invite me to type something, anything, every day. I spend every moment of the day thinking about anything I can go type up, just to hear the perfectly smooth and thocky spacebar over and over again. If you want motivation to work - a custom keyboard is a very easy way to get tons of it.
Actually the production quality - sound, lighting picture of this vid is as good as anything I’ve seen. Your camera was definitely worth it. The overall production quality impeccable.
I love that you're doing a series to help newcomers get into the scene. 1 thing I really struggle with as a newcomer is that everything is out of stock at the point of purchase. It requires a strong mental focus on what I want but out-of-stock vs. what I don't really want but in-stock. I also find it demands a lot of patience, when your favorite keycap set may take ~1 year to reach you.
Ogk 2017 LOL same! Just purchased the boneyard and the space bars, the MoDo2 and the novelties AND mats. My little corner is getting filled with keyboard related items lmao. I ain’t finished yet though. Currently waiting for the Think 6.5v2, the bento, and see if I can grab a set of Olivias. Oh man. 😅
this might have been the most expensive video I ever watched on RUclips considering the money spent on custom mechanical keyboard parts in the last few weeks alone. That said, it has become a great hobby and I there is no going back to stock keyboards once you realise how much you can improve the experience. I have always been keen to use great keyboards. But my first very own 60% makes me want to even answer my work emails. As a German who wants to stick to ISO-DE for now, it is quite hard to find keycaps - but this has become part of the fun. Thanks Taeha, seriously.
“Curating their desk setups”. It’s very true. After I built my first custom keeb, I’ve been much happier while working throughout the day. This has helped to make me more productive as well. That aside, the keyboard and phone are our main vehicles to communicate with the outside world. In a way, it’s like an extension of ourselves. It makes sense to find and build something that is tailor made to truly fit YOU.
The truth: these 3 months since I got into mechanical keyboard, I purchased 8 keyboards, sold 2, returned 2, broke 1, and kept 3 for now. The time I was used to study and do constructive things now become times I research on keyboards, watch people building them, got torn between endless choices on which switch/keycap/cable to buy, and f**king typing practice websites. I just hope my obsession can end soon and get back to normal. In fact I even type faster on membrane keyboard.
My keyboard for sure helped me type better. Front print means you can't look at the keys as easy and now I can touch type faster than anyone I know. It's great!
I needed this. Im fed up with explaining my outsider friends why i need a custom keyboard for 300€. Thanks Taeha. Also this video makes me even more hyped for the NK65 drop. I cant wait to build :P
Actually, I agree with Taeha. After I built my own custom keyboard, I always find something that I could do so that I could use my keyboard. I would always feel hyped up when I got to use my keyboard and once I use it, it's hard for me to stop. Ended up me finishing all the works early.
I got my first mechanical keyboard about 4 days ago. It has been inspiring me to type & in general making me happy when i go to use it. My old keyboard never made me happy... I was unaware that it was even possible for a keyboard to make me smile.
I'm just starting to get into mechanical keyboards after using cheap keyboards for many years, and finally buying a good mechanical. Now I'm starting to part together my first build. Thanks for such a great channel, it's been very helpful.
Very well written and said. I am just getting into the mechanical keyboard scene. While I've explored several channels so far to whet my appetite for the experience of buying or creating my own, I feel that your video communicates the soul of the community in a friendly and accessible way. Thanks for this intro.
Thank you for the fantastic content. Your channel has opened my eyes to the possibilities of a tool I used to take for granted. I use top notch tool for my trade and fine cookware to make my meals. I've found that tactile interfaces enhance the quality of my life. My keyboards are now part of that world. Keep up the great work. So, about my typing skills . . . lol
It's like this wity every enthousiast hobby. You can buy a watch for 10 bucks at Wallmart, or you can spend 10k on a Rolex. They both tell the time, but it's something different
100% agree with you on "gear" and inspiration. Feeling confident and 'proud' of whatever tool or device you're using is important. A lot of times, the extra money spent only goes towards a "quality of life" aspect. Something that doesn't actually change function, but makes how you EXPERIENCE that function more engaging and positive.
Anybody who gets into this hobby should do themselves a favor and learn how to touch type. It's fun to improve at a useful skill and you're getting the most out of your hobby that you just dumped a lot of money on! I really don't get these other RUclipsrs who have spent thousands of hours building keebs and making videos but won't take a few hours out of the week to learn how to type properly. Taeha was the first mech kb RUclipsr I saw and I expected similar levels of enthusiasm and polish from other RUclipsrs but 90% of them type like they're newbies to this hobby. It's baffling and to be honest, it's lazy. I seriously just stop watching if they don't know how to type. I know that might sound elitist but if we're looking towards some of these RUclipsrs for guidance on keyboards and to be a leader in this hobby but they can't be bothered with learning how to perform the ONE skill and that is unique to the hobby then they deserve some flak.
Making more info-based videos like this is a great idea, it's easier to digest than a full 2hr+ stream video and more interesting than a typing test. I'll def be tuning into the next videos
I got a mechanical keyboard a few weeks ago after trying some switches and deciding to switch from an apple magic keyboard, Personally your videos taught me a lot about the expression one can have on their keyboard, I don't really have the highest enthusiast board, just a Hexgear Nova with Box Whites and some custom keycaps but I've been really having fun with how much of the community is based around passing ideas, mods, and hardware so if someones is looking for a certain upgrade they can find it, I'm personally very happy with the 140 dollars I spent and the small mods I did on mine but I see the more expensive enthusiast parts as a way to support creators or engineers around the community while giving those people the product they want, I think that's pretty cool out of y'all.
Your channel is one of the reasons why I became interested in custom mechanical keyboards a couple years ago. I don't even remember how I found you; might have been a blessing (or a curse upon my wallet XP) from RUclips that I did. Up until then I never even knew what a mechanical keyboard was, let alone how vast and diverse the individual parts that were available for anyone to purchase. What I love about your content is how much passion you have for building awesome keyboards. You make something like a simple keyboard; a mundane tool majority of us use everyday, into an incredible work of art. Your impeccable craftsmanship for creating "Mona Lisa" keyboards would make Leonardo da Vinci cry in adoration. I was supposed to build my very first mechanical keyboard this year, but then HUMAN MALWARE has pushed that goal back :'( Anyways, keep up the amazing content Taeha! Aloha, from Hawaii.
This video is legit what people ask me : ''Why you wearing a suit'' ''Because it make me feel and look like a million bucks, I get confident out of it and I can attack my day with this mentality'' Nobody need a suit, everyone could wear a T and short and it 'would do the job'. Superb Video.
I am just now watching this video five months after building my first board and from there probably 7 months since I had first watched one of your videos and the part where you say getting the keyboard to look, feel, and sound the way I want it to making me feel good is very true. I've increased my typing speed form 80WPM to 120WPM with a drive derived from building a keyboard that's tailored to how I want it to be, and I don't think I would have improved my typing speed and accuracy otherwise. I have some parts coming in the mail now and everything should be here within a month so I can build my next keyboard and experiment more.
This video is a work of art. Seeing that elegant charcoal backdrop with tasteful accent lights filmed on a C200 utterly decimated by RUclips's compression algorithms hurts me deep inside.
what nathan said can be applied to chairs aswell. "spend your money where you spend your time" is an underrated statement. People are shocked when they see herman millers prices but they are actually cheaper AND better for your back/posture.
I’ve been searching for something in ISO-DE (QWERTZ) Layout for months now. Everything is either permanently sold out or WAY over my budget. Edit: I’m searching for a TKL-Version as well, which doesn’t make things easier 😅
Ever since I got my first mechanical keyboard and got my first mods done, I'm always more eager and excited to use the computer, even if it's for work. The sound and feel just makes me feel happier/satisfied. :D
Yeah Its true what you said about that the positive experience immediately when you are about to do your daily things on the computer. You videos motivated me to build my own lubed keyboard. Its been 15 months and I am still love it! Its fun to type on, very unique compared to mainstream keyboards, and when I need to do essays I look forward on typing them on a nice keyboard. It really helps me with my mood and I have no negative vibes when jumping in.
OMG!!! I collect decks of playing cards, and the shot of yours in an old wooden cassette holder is the most brilliant storage solution for them I've come across yet! Bonus!
I like the camera analogy. Another similar note would be instruments. One question among guitarists is "will an expensive guitar make you a better musician?" And most would say no, but at the same time, most would agree it *motivates* you to become a better musician, and sometimes that motivation is the difference between stagnation and progress.
Hopefully this will convince my parents to let me get a higher-end keyboard EDIT: I have to convince my parents to use my own money for the keyboard, and I am probably only going to spend around 500-600 dollars on it, so even then it wouldn't be the most luxurious one.
if you are refering razer/corsair/logitech keyboards as higher end keyboard,no. That's not what this video is about, that's just like the scratch of the surface(like he said in the video),there's more to a mechanical keyboard than those gaming keyboards that i just mentioned. There are much more to a mech keyboard like custom case, custom keycaps, types of switches (not just the cherry mx ones, for example kailh, topre, holy pandas, tangerines) etc.
An analogy I like to use when describing why high end mechanical keyboards are so good are sports equipment. I play soccer, and I would always be really excited if I had a budget to get some new cleats or a new soccer ball. At the end of the day, maybe it doesn't make me a better player, but especially for shoes, having good shoes can motivate and if it's good enough, can literally improve your performance.
I guess people take that whatever is trending, or hyped, they must follow the trail. Without having a good thought of what's in it for them. Deciding to get a good keyboard is somehow my way of being undistracted in my surrounding, listening to my own thoughts, with the sounds and my fingers to relieve my physical tension (which for me is kind of normal because I have ADD, and I easily get distracted) to give it a chance on focusing doing one thing. Thanks for the wonderful information! Very inspirational! 🙂
I'm excited about this series. I've followed you for years and have always been excited and interested into building my own custom mechanical keyboard but have also been hesitant for various reasons because it can be so overwhelming. Currently sitting on several sites waiting for products to become available and for me to dive into the world of customs. Thanks for all that you do.
I'm going to be honest. I have no interest in making my own keyboard, but the passion with which you speak is clear as day. Look forward to going through your content.

The timing couldn't get more perfect for me as I just received my first custom mechanical keyboard
This was not only about Mechanical Keyboards. This was just relaxing for me and a lesson to love what we can do every day and to enjoy life a little more. Thank you!
New intro is so damn clean, but I still find it hilarious how the keyboard in it is a 40%--the type that Taeha doesn't use often.
29% keyboards? Hmmm....
i love how this comment has 40 likes
i just started with my little gk61 ....then i saw taeha and his videos....
I was confused as to why I have five mech keyboards, and then I saw this video and now I'm in for another group buy
i kinda wanna like this 50 times
Hi Taeha, you inspired me to bring this community to my country (Brazil), which has nothing in this world except the conventional mechanical keyboards from stores (Razer, logitech, hyperx), which are very good, but really lacking the differential of being able to offer an exclusive, unique, personalized product that can please only those who assembled it. I am currently doing market research and contacting these specialized stores so that I can bring this market here.
I really appreciate your work, dedication and the quality of the content you offer on the channel.
Strong hug.
Just when I'm doubting all life decisions, Taeha knows just what to tell me.

6:11 I expected a thicc stack of deskmats
“Curating their desk setups”. It’s very true. After I built my first custom keeb, I’ve been much happier while working throughout the day. This has helped to make me more productive as well. That aside, the keyboard and phone are our main vehicles to communicate with the outside world. In a way, it’s like an extension of ourselves. It makes sense to find and build something that is tailor made to truly fit YOU.

K LOL wow this was 4 weeks ago i gave up lol
The truth: these 3 months since I got into mechanical keyboard, I purchased 8 keyboards, sold 2, returned 2, broke 1, and kept 3 for now. The time I was used to study and do constructive things now become times I research on keyboards, watch people building them, got torn between endless choices on which switch/keycap/cable to buy, and f**king typing practice websites. I just hope my obsession can end soon and get back to normal. In fact I even type faster on membrane keyboard.
The key to lubing is that less is more
My keyboard for sure helped me type better.
I cant wait to build :P
if you've been telling your friends that you *need* it, no wonder they ask for an explanation ;)
Yeah, "need" was a poor choice of words lol. Nobody needs a $400 keyboard
Yep, no one "needs" a 300£ keyboard unless you actually have a problem. You WANT a 300£ keyboard
I think your friends might really wanna know why you need another one. And another one. And another one.
Guys i apolagize my first language is not english
Actually, I agree with Taeha. After I built my own custom keyboard, I always find something that I could do so that I could use my keyboard. I would always feel hyped up when I got to use my keyboard and once I use it, it's hard for me to stop. Ended up me finishing all the works early.
When I first built my keyboard, I remember actually enjoying typing out my final essay.
I got my first mechanical keyboard about 4 days ago. It has been inspiring me to type & in general making me happy when i go to use it. My old keyboard never made me happy... I was unaware that it was even possible for a keyboard to make me smile.

They both tell the time, but it's something different
content creators like yourself help shed light on the community of custom mechanical keyboards. which makes me happy.
Ah yes, tips and tricks about diving into the pit of poorness. I love it.
I'm gonna send this video to my mom to justify my spending habits.
Thanks for the video Nathan :)
She's either gonna use it as proof that you're crazy, or she'll get sucked into it and want to build her own keyboard. Which is more likely?
I gotta be honest, I love your intro music so much. It literally warms up my ears
I 100% agree with this. I got into keyboards during this quarantine and to be honest it’s such a joy to begin typing and starting work.

"Why mechanical keyboards? Why not?" Well said sir, well said.....
This kind of video may not seem like it’s worth the effort, but I think it is. The value is there. This is what the community wants.

I want to start building keyboards but every single frickin part I want or need is always out of stock or costs hundreds of dollars. Arghh

''Because it make me feel and look like a million bucks, I get confident out of it and I can attack my day with this mentality''
Nobody need a suit, everyone could wear a T and short and it 'would do the job'.
Superb Video.
I like the intro and all, but I think it'd be cool if you did a real life version with you in it instead of an animation

I like the camera analogy. Another similar note would be instruments. One question among guitarists is "will an expensive guitar make you a better musician?" And most would say no, but at the same time, most would agree it *motivates* you to become a better musician, and sometimes that motivation is the difference between stagnation and progress.
Hopefully this will convince my parents to let me get a higher-end keyboard
EDIT: I have to convince my parents to use my own money for the keyboard, and I am probably only going to spend around 500-600 dollars on it, so even then it wouldn't be the most luxurious one.
Praying for you... :P
your money or parents money ?
@@bruh1k63 if it was his money he wouldn't need to convince them
@@rnozz97 i would have to lol
if you are refering razer/corsair/logitech keyboards as higher end keyboard,no.
Finally, a video to justify my expensive addict- Hobby.
