  • Steve Jobs is one of the most iconic entrepreneurs in history, thanks to his incredible ability to predict the future. But one of his most iconic creations wasn’t a product or company, it was actually his outfit. As early as the 1980’s, Jobs could be seen wearing a black turtleneck and blue Levis jeans. Which was very unusual for the CEO of a multi-million dollar company. By the 90s, he began wearing this signature outfit everyday. In public while visiting Apple Stores, on stage during keynote presentations, and even privately in his own home. This has left many people wondering why Jobs wore the same outfit everyday, and what prompted him to settle on a black mock turtleneck with blue jeans. So let’s find out why.

Being an employee who's required to wear a uniform myself, I can agree that it takes the stress away from people to decide everyday what to wear. If you decide to wear a same dress everyday, your colleagues start judging and wondering why you never change. With the concept of uniforms, that's never a problem.

I thought the same as i prefer in my outfit without thinking of Steve Job incase would be bias. You know, to 'copy'. Sometimes, spending to much on fashion show that also vast contributed in climate change. Geez. Think of doing great thing in this world rather than flaunt and waste it with some jerkiness.

The folk lore is that he did not want to waste any mental energy choosing clothing. He was notoriously focused. He would sometimes greet his managers with “how many things did you say NO to today?”.

The clothing was about image and we already know that Jobs was totally obsessed with image. What I will forever wonder is which original ideas were truly his. The more I learn about him, the more it seems that he stood on the shoulders of truly talented engineers and visionaries and stole the best that was theirs. With that kind of thrust, and with due respect to this departed executive, even pigs can fly.

    • @harrison00xXx
      @harrison00xXx Год назад

Well, considering how much good ideas he had, he was truly visionary.
But nowadays... look at Rocket Jesus (= Elon Musk).... He is literally MUCH WORSE than any CEO or boss, he invented nothing, and the few ideas he had are literally useless and/or a scam, just to get attention and thats it.

This makes total sense, when your trying to change the world you shouldn't waist time choosing clothing. I'm currently reading "The Paradox of Choice" by Barry Schwartz, this books talks about the problem of to manny choices robbing people of peace of mind and waisting their valuable time trying to choose wisely.

    We're no strangers to love
You know the rules and so do I
    A full commitment's what I'm thinking of
You wouldn't get this from any other guy
I just wanna tell you how I'm feeling
    Gotta make you understand
    Never gonna give you up
    Never gonna let you down
Never gonna run around and desert you
    Never gonna make you cry
    Never gonna say goodbye
Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you
We've known each other for so long
Your heart's been aching but you’re too shy to say it
Inside we both know what's been going on
We know the game and we're gonna play it
And if you ask me how I'm feeling
Don't tell me you're too blind to see

There's something missed here: how does it benefit him? Okay, it's iconic. You know it's him. But as a creative, what would benefit would it provide? There's been discussion elsewhere, but in short, it decouples any need to expend the energy to think about dressing to put it into far more (to the individual making the choice) beneficial endeavors. It's also been said that the act of "putting it on" creates a mental modal shift to begin 'the work' or to 'create'. But on a very simple level, having the same means not having to think at all about it. He made a very elegant effort to explore it and developed something he could be comfortable with and then he was done. No more effort needed to decide what to wear, giving him time to develop Apple.

Pretty sure all this was in the Isaacson book.
I think you missed a few VITAL details. The reason SJ wore black in the first place was so that he could present his Apple projects (with a black background) and highlight the beautiful white object. The reason he wore those New Balance shoes was because part of his negotiation strategy was to go on walks around the Apple Campus (eg. walking around with Tim Cook or the Disney CEO, etc).
