Interesting United States Marines fact: An Iowa class battleship has 9 16" 50 caliber main guns (caliber in cannons means bore diameters, the guns are 50 16" measures long, breach block face to muzzle). They are capable of firing almost 2 rounds a minute (depending on the deflection of the firing solution). This means an Iowa class battleship can fire a 2700lbs HE shell about every 5 seconds, or a full salvo every 30 seconds putting 24,300lbs of HE on targets out to 20 miles with an accuracy under the area of a tennis ball court. 'Tennis courts are pretty big', you might say....until you have to share one with 12 tons of high explosive and steel shrapnel. With the ammo stores on board a single ship that ship could land shells on anything within 20 miles for almost an hour straight, just a few minutes shy, firing a round every 5 seconds. What does this have to do with the Marines? Well, as evidenced, an Iowa class battleship is entirely capable of boring a hole straight to hell in under an hour. However, the Navy avoids this practice as to not interfere with the Marine's operations. Marines do not die, they go to hell and regroup!

My brother in November! Too bad they both will be Hollywood Marines, like my dad says :P
Good fortune to him! Everything he says & does he is NEVER to bring disrespect to his mother or to the Corps of Marines! End of subject! Semper Fidelis devil dog! See you in 30 years!
Gena Hebert give him a big one ☝️ Gina Herbert 👍🇺🇸🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪✨⭐️🙏
I wanted to be a Marine, but my mom basically hated me for it. And since I cherished my parents being proud of me over my own happiness, I’m now in seminary absolutely hating every second of my life. Moral to the story - do what you want with your life kids.
Once you're old enough at 18 you no longer need permission from your parents. It's your right to decide. You can leave In her face and she cant do anything about it. Go achieve your dreams. Don't let anyone ever tell you "no"
Yup. You only have 1 life.
In the case of my nephew, he was following in his fathers footsteps. It was his grandmother who couldnt handle it. She had a lot of trouble coping with her grandson possibly going into combat.
Thus, could result in you resenting your parents one day. Not too late bud marines even give age wagers sometimes
Happy 249th gents. glad to be here for the last 3 and hopefully many more.
Love this hymn. My Great Grandpa was in the US Marines in WW2. He joined at just 17 years old. He lied to get in just like any other boy did at that time to go and serve their country. He was wounded at Iwo Jima by a grenade, and was sent back to the states. He passed in 2003 at the age of 77. SEMPER FI Great Grandpa and keep the streets of Heaven guarded.
Respect.
And when he goes to Heaven,
To St. Peter he will tell:
Another Marine reporting, Sir;
I've served my time in hell.

Certain things are ebbedded in our brains. I can quote the hymn in my sleep.
I never had the Honor of serving but I still remember the lyrics of the Marines, Army, and Navy from my youth. We were taught all these songs in music class back when I was 5 or 6 years old.
My uncle never left the Marines in civilian life and died like one. Semper Fi! The wounds and battles he survived in Vietnam will be a part of our family as long as oral history continues. Happy Veterans Day to all who have ever served.
❤❤ It doesn't matter how many times I hear the hymn. I get that same wave of pride that just runs up my spine, it's like no time has passed and I'm at that final day of boot. Rah
I'm fifteen and what to join the USMC my dad is a Vietnam vet have loved the Marines since I was 4
@FBI Federal Bureau of Investigation I'm joining after I'm done with my undergraduate studies. I'm 20 years old, but once I graduate from college in two years, I'm going straight to the Marines and becoming an officer. ( The perks of joining after you go to college with a degree earned )
I don't know if your dad is proud of Vietnam or wants you to join the army though...
You're still young, keep your mind open and and try to research the nature of war before you decide anything.
@@ghosty0612 Yes, I agree with you, don't join the army. Instead, join the marines.
Same here! Im 13 ans my uncle is a vet. I wanna follow in his footsteps or go to army.
Same bro I’m 15, enlisting in 2 years
My dad was a Marine so was my Great grandfather thank you. Thank you for your sevice or sevicing this country. Sorry for the bad spelling.
When you hear this in the distance, you better turn around and run like hell.
You hear this song from all angles, you're trapped.
@@coldfront1961 Or dead.
Nah bro we’ll catch up
Amen I play it at sunset at top of my speakers blaring from the end of my dock on the lake because my neighbor is peeping and my boy is working and I don't want to tell him how bad it is. But I give that neighbor this song and He bugged out after 3 plays on first night. Laughed my ass off. Now all neighbors get to hear it every 🌙 at sunset
Hell you hear it you're already dead
This was my favorite military hymn song when we sang this in elementary, and now it’s become the branch I’m planning to join after graduation
Did you join?
Wow. I thought I was the only one. I also have a photo from me in elementary dressed as a marine with the title "future United States Marine" never thought the time would come
Dont go.

Since I was a little kid I listen to this song, when I started liking military music, it's very vibrant. Hugs from Brazil

My cousin was a marine and always be a proud marine. I’m proud of him and all of our veterans from USA armed forces 🇺🇸🇺🇸god bless them 🙏
"to the shores of Tripoli" refer to a battle against the Rais Hamidou in the Mediterranean Sea (really fascinating character and certainly one if not the greatest "pirate" in history), and it was the starting point of the hegemony of the United States.
Even though I'm 10 I still wish to be apart of the hardest branch of the armed forces I've been watching so many videos on what these marines have to do when I'm older I'm willing to see those "yellow footprints" I'm willing to die for my family and for my country. I'm ten and I have big dreams
Hey little brother, I could not be more proud of you. I don't have children but I wish you were my son. Your parents are so very proud of you.

The Marine Corps Museum is located in Washington D.C.; it is a must visit place. Also go to see The Wall on Memorial Day ... if you can see through your tears, that is.
If a Marine goes to hell, he was not punished. He is the punishment.
"MORE THAN SERVICE"
Thank you Marine Corps.
Your service is appreciated, your Honor and Valor is un parraleled, nothing MATTERS more than our American service men and women.
