Really enjoyed it, thanks, so glad to find another great cross stitch channel, more ways to share our common love for stitches. Love from South Africa🇿🇦
Your Owl project is coming to life...love the Mill Hill Kits...you will be building a stash in beads...some pattern makers are not so generous...love your book section...my grandgirls Library is closed...no curbside service either...they love to be read too as much as their mother did...thanks for your awesome video❣️❣️
I came for the cross stitch but I LOVE the book talk! Such a unique way of doing things and your passion for the stories is contagious. Also, please keep babbling! Haha. You have a very pleasant voice and and a great personality. Thanks for sharing all the things. You're really inspiring me to pick up a new hobby!
@@mountainlaurelstitches It really is! I just started my very first cross stitch. I already can't wait to get to another, much larger, one. It's a great way to pass the time. ☺️
The Mill Hill kits are cute! I saw them at my LNS but passed because I didn’t think I could do them. Now, I need to go back and get some. I love your book segment. My kids would love the book.
Just found your channel! I loved your stitches and I work in a school system and had to pause you while I found a pen and paper to right your book recommendation down! Loved the sound of it! Thanks!
I am really enjoying your videos. Great to see you again! I was happy to give you a shout out on my newish channel. So happy to see your start on Shenadoah, it is going to be gorgeous!
You are so right, Beth! I had your name written down too, but got so nervous that I forgot *half* the stuff I meant to say! I will remember to say that in the next video :)
Hi Laurel! I’ve loved all your videos. I started Halloween Quaker this past September. It’s such a fun piece to stitch. You’ve gotten a fantastic start on it. I had to pause watching when you showed the Chessie & Me kit to go buy it. So cute! Thank you for enabling. Also, your owl piece is stunning!
Thank you, Deborah! I love that I enabled you! 😂 There are quite a few different kinds of those Chessie & Me kits out there, but they seem to be only at needlework shops - The Silver Needle has another cute Halloween one. 🎃
I just found you and watched all your videos! Always love to see a fellow librarian in the Flosstube community. I was a K-12 librarian for 17.5 years before I made a career change, now I’m a Systems and Technical Services (Cataloging) and reference librarian for a public library. You have so many great projects. I love the book segment!! ~Katrina
Thank you, Katrina! It's great to hear from a fellow librarian! That is quite the career change and a very different side of librarianship ☺️. I'd be interested in trying public library some day too, but maybe after the public health crisis has passed! 😣
Mountain Laurel Stitches, yes, it was quite a career change. Unfortunately, here in MI, most schools don’t seem to feel having a degreed librarian is all that important anymore, and I could see the writing on the wall ... with every passing year, they kept assigning me more and more direct teaching responsibilities and were basically telling me that the librarian portion of my job wasn’t that important. I almost didn’t even apply for my current job, as when I worked for the school, I tried to avoid Cataloging as much as possible. It was a task I greatly disliked. But, it turns out, now that I’ve been able to get some better training, etc. that I actually kind of like Cataloging, LOL. I enjoy helping the public for the most part, but I don’t enjoy dealing with the crazy patrons ... and it seems we have at least one or two every year. Right now, we are only offering curbside service, along with phone and internet reference, which is kind of nice. :-). ~Katrina
Your first Mill Hill kit was great! You can also stitch them on fabric if you like and you don’t have to use the heading if you don’t want to as well. (You just Stitch the dmc color that you would use for the bead). I’ve done both and enjoy both! Murky is my favorite PTP color. Each piece varies a lot but I love them all!! Your Halloween Quaker looks amazing!
Thank you, Michelle! ☺️ I appreciate the tips! I can definitely see myself stitching the Mill Hill on fabrics at some point, but oh - it's so nice to have them practically FFO'ed on the paper! 😆
Laurel, I so loved your video:) Your voice is perfect for a librarian! Too bad my kids are teenagers because i would totally have read this book to them:) Love your WIPS. Especially the Halloween Quaker. Awesome start.
Oh my goodness! I am loving your projects!! The pumpkin by Mill Hill is just beautiful, and your owl is stunning! I am inspired! Thank you!! I am currently working on only 2 projects, it’s far too easy for me to get overwhelmed, but I may just have to start a couple more smalls. I too am working on a Mill Hill Festival if Trees Cardinal Tree, as well as The Sweetheart Tree “Autumn Pumpkins Welcome”. Thanks, I’m subscribed!!😊
Such a fun flosstube. I bought a Mill Hill kit a few years ago and have not started it yet. I think 🤔 I need to go find that now and get it finished. Thanks for the inspiration. Loved how you ended with a 📚 book. So cute!
Hi Laurel. Another great video. I enjoy seeing your projects and love the little mill hill kit. The Halloween Quaker is really cute and of course that owl is absolutely stunning. I also love the children’s books at the end. I recommended you to my sister who takes care of her granddaughter who loves books. Keep up the great job. Thank you.
Hi Laurel, so glad I found your channel. Your stitching is so pretty, those cotton cats 🐱 so so cute! Great start on Halloween Quaker, and I love seeing your progress each time on your owl. I have three young daughters and we love reading in this house, I think my two youngest would love I am not a chair. I have a channel too but don’t film very often. I am from Australia 😊 happy stitching x
Your owl project is beautiful. It will be quite impressive when finished. :-) I love your choice of the Cricket Collection shepherdess. I have that design, but I haven't started it yet. Maybe you will inspire me to pick it up. I don't plan to do Pandemic either. :-)
That owl is really looking awesome. Loving it. I love Rainbow Cat Stitcher. Cool to see you both doing a sal together. Have never seen those mill hill kits but they look fun. Again loved the book review. 😊
The Mill Hill pumpkin turned out so cute! Love seeing the progress on the owl. You are right - evenweaves are often synthetic blends with natural fibers and tend to dye lighter. But they will still dye beautifully! Fabrics made of natural fibers, like linen and cotton, tend to hold on to dye resulting in a more saturated color. Thank you for the shout out!
Love your videos, Laurel! I love the book section and how animated you get when you're reading. You're a natural in front of the camera, so don't worry if you feel like you're babbling! That owl is just stunning. Tell your mom she did amazing on that gorgeous project bag!
Loved the book section. As an elementary teacher my favorite part of the day was story time right after recess. It was a great way for them to wind down before continuing with school work.
Oh, thank you, Vicki! I think that is such a wonderful idea to have them listen to a read aloud before continuing to work. You must have had a very well-behaved class! 😄
Just found your channel- very enjoyable- need to go back and watch first 2. Love the Mill Hill pumpkins - May need to get - along with Halloween Quaker. I just purchased autumn Quaker and downloaded a Christmas Quaker- will be my first quakers! You are not the only one who did not download Long Dog’s pandemic sampler - I had forgotten about it - now not a freebie and since I purchased the other 2 and want to get the Halloween Quaker I probably won’t (too too many patterns in my stash already don’t know when I’ll ever complete them). Also thank you for the book suggestion - I think the grandkids will really like it. We are always at the library or bookstore.
I'm so glad you enjoyed the book! 🥰 Christmas Quaker sounds lovely - is the one by Lila's Studio? I can definitely see myself working on more quakers in the future, as the Halloween Quaker is such a delight!
Mountain Laurel Stitches it is by “ByGone Stitches” the name of pattern is “Quaker Christmas II (two) - Songs of the Season”. I can try to send you picture of pattern through DM on Instagram or FB if you are on there
I am also doing the Halloween Quaker that I started last October that I bought from Lila's Studio fully kitted with 40 CT murky & Classic Colorworks & will pick it back up this October. Your owl is absolutely breathtaking!!!
Doris, the Halloween Quaker is so much fun! It's a piece where I say 'just a few stitches'... then two hours later I'm still working on it. It would definitely make for some spooky stitching in the fall! :)
Hi Candace! Yes, I've seen your videos - you must have lightning needles as you are so fast at getting projects done! :) I have put your many projects on my to-do lists!
Your work is really pretty. Love your beaded pumpkin, as hard as I have tried I do not have nice backs but it really doesn’t matter. I cover mine with an iron on stabilizer to make my project more stiff for framing. Love your owl.

I love doing Mill Hill kits because they are beautiful in person. The owl is wonderful and almost looks like a painting. I take care of my granddaughter and she loves books. I’m loving the books you show and am writing down the titles so we can look for them at the library when it’s safe to go again. Great job on your videos.
Thank you! I think Mill Hill look better in person too :) I'm so happy to hear you are enjoying the books! I hope you are able to use your library again soon; it's tough to not be able to go.
I’m planning on starting my RUclips craft channel soon, Mari’s Motifs. I’m brand new crosstitcher, but also knit and crochet. I understand about being nervous, but I know it gets easier being on camera. So far loving your project picks!
Hi Mariii, so great you are going to make a craft channel soon! I will keep an eye out for it. I have a definite appreciation for anyone who makes videos now. They take a lot of work and prep - I had no idea before!
I can’t wait to hear about how you like working with silk, I haven’t tried that yet either but that small looks so fun!! And your Halloween Quaker is looking so good, I love seeing it with the classic colorworks! You’re stitching is fantastic, you’re definitely not a beginner 😀 you’re awesome!
Thanks, Steph! I'm excited about the silks too, I forgot to mention there are Belle Soies in the kit as well. I've heard nothing but good things about "fancy floss" so I will let you know in the next video. :)
Hi there! Watching for the first time. Where did you find the holders you’re using and the item that wraps around the holders? Your owl project is what I’m referencing. I’m a long time cross-stitcher and usually just roll up the edges and hold my fabric.
Hi Susan, the blue fabric on the outside of my q-snaps for the owl is a grime guard from Etsy, and the blue rubber things are called Peels Spool Huggers. I hope that answer your question. 😊
Hi Laurel! I really liked your video, you made good progress on Pokemon design, it's really growing 👍 I didn't download the pandemic long dog either. Just didn't feel like I want to spend another couple of years commemorating the virus and all the things going on right now. btw, I also have a flosstube 😘
Hi Anastasia, I feel the same way about the Pandemic piece. I think it's beautiful, but I didn't want to dwell on this year any longer than I have to. I will be sure to check out your channel today :)

Wow! So cool 🤩 I've only ever met "American Laurels" and maybe only 2 or 3 in my life. Thanks for commenting and letting me know! I will definitely check out your channel when I stitch today 😊
What is the name of the fun large green dragon-animal that you shared at the beginning of the video? I when to that etsy shop and couldn’t find the design =). Also do you have an Instagram account? Thanks!
Hi Annie, it is a Pokemon called Bulbasuar. I went to the etsy shop, and you are right - it's not there! 😞 But if you type in "bulbasuar cross stitch" on etsy, you can find other shops selling it. Yes, my instagram is Mountain Laurel Stitches 😄
Your owl kit is amazing!! I love that you mentioned Long Dog's Pandemic because that's what I was working on while watching. I didn't know if I'd actually stitch it, but I figured just downloading it wouldn't hurt.
Thank you, Mia! I think I didn't go and download Pandemic because I've had my eye on "Quiltz" for a while. I've enjoyed seeing every one else's Pandemic progress though!
Really enjoyed it, thanks, so glad to find another great cross stitch channel, more ways to share our common love for stitches. Love from South Africa🇿🇦
