Solána Imani Rowe (born November 8, 1989), known professionally by her stage name SZA (/ˈsɪzə/ SIZ-ə), is an American singer-songwriter. She first gained recognition through her self-released extended plays (EPs), See.SZA.Run (2012) and S (2013), which helped her become the first female artist to sign with Top Dawg Entertainment. Her third EP, Z (2014), was her first project to be released to digital retailers and reached the top-ten on the US Independent Albums chart.
After signing a joint recording contract with RCA Records, SZA released her debut studio album, Ctrl (2017). It was met with critical and commercial success, earning four Grammy Award nominations and becoming the second longest-charting R&B album by a female artist on the Billboard 200. The following year, SZA was nominated for the Golden Globe and Academy Awards for Best Original Song via her collaboration with Kendrick Lamar on the US and UK top-ten single "All the Stars". Her featured appearance on Doja Cat's "Kiss Me More" broke the record for the longest-running all-female collaboration within the US top-ten, and won the Grammy Award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.
SZA's second album, SOS (2022), spent ten non-consecutive weeks atop the Billboard 200 and broke the record for the largest streaming week for an R&B album in the US. Supported by six singles, including the top-ten songs "Good Days", "I Hate U", "Nobody Gets Me" and "Snooze", SZA earned her first number-one single on the Billboard Hot 100 with "Kill Bill" in 2023. She later earned her second chart-topping single of the year with her guest appearance on Drake's "Slime You Out".
SZA has received multiple accolades throughout her career, including an American Music Award, a Guild of Music Supervisors Award, two Billboard Women in Music awards (including Woman of the Year), and a nomination for a Brit Award. As a songwriter, she co-wrote Nicki Minaj and Beyoncé's song "Feeling Myself".

I literally just listened to the whole album before being suggested this video. SZA’s music is a way of life. Her music isn’t for everybody. It’s for those who have very deep emotions. An internal diary. They make everyone smile and feel warm but inside they are thinking so much. The popular loner. Her music breaks you down because of the words and it feels exactly how you do but it also heals you bc over time those same songs aren’t so hard to sing or listen to anymore.
I remember I cried so hard one day and had “Far” on loop BALLING my eyes out. It played probably 20 times. I had just gotten my heart shattered by a person and I decided that was the last time. SZA’s music is like seasons of life. CTRL held me over because that was my state of mind and those were my college years. Literally remember hotboxing with my roommates many days to that album and Jhene Aiko Trip album lmao. Listening to those albums with our house party speaker, watching the lights go to the music. Just a vibe in our small college town.
SOS is coming out of that stage of life, finally moving on from those people that broke me. Figuring out life day by day. It like i’m down but i’m not staying here. SOS starts strong, leads into the emotion and then end with Good days saying despite all I believe in good days. I gotta do this for me. Forgiveness is like the final F you. I’m moving on. I forgive you but we’re done and stay away from me because the last time was your last chance. SOS for me is being 25 and really seeing how things are with life in reality. I don’t feel like that sheltered kid that grew up with religion constantly shoved down their throat. Growing up in the suburbs where you aren’t white but the black kids dont always welcome you either because you’re a “white black girl” whatever that means.
SZA is like Sade. Idk if SZA could go as long without making music but as far as their last work still being played like it came out yesterday, says a lot. It’s like Sade is so timeless she doesn’t have to make anymore music but it would be nice. Same with SZA. SZA and I’s birthdays are 4 days apart so it feels like no wonder I relate to her so much. Idek if I could call myself just a SZA fan but not in an obsessive way.
The SOS tour date in nashville changed my life. It was like I was in another world. I cried so hard dining and she made it feel so personal truly making eye contact and holding it with us sitting by the stage. The engineering was PHENOMENAL!!! I felt so complete but was so depressed for like 3 weeks after bc of course my crush I went with broke my heart two days after so here I am a little over a month later and the album is healing me all over again ❤️‍🩹

I randomly found SZA in a listicle of the best new albums, because I was trying to mix up my music taste. it could not have come at a better time for me!! In September 2017 I moved into my very first apartment, got my very first car, and was just stepping into the world after college graduation... I listened to this album non fucking stop for at least a month, singing every word and memorizing every little sound, full of joy and fear at all the life ahead of me... this album is unforgettable to me, I feel so attached to it that I feel a little sting of defensiveness whenever anyone says they like it too 😂 I love SZA, she is an incredible artist and I am so glad she decided to make music. ❤❤

she is put into the R&B category, but she is truly a pop artist. I think it has to do with her race. Adele and Sam Smith were considered Pop when they did a primarily R&B sound. Not sure why SZA can’t be both to capitalize on the awards and recognition for both categories/genre. They really need to explain why she is R&B

I really love this video. Thanks for dropping this during ♏season. Sza and Frank are both 🦂 who know how to put their feelings out there without actually letting us in. I think part of why we love them so much is that we will never fully know who they are. They experience life and all its perils and after sifting through their experiences they share what they've learned. I almost cried when you said, "An ocean of feelings and sounds that exists in its own world..." and "rejection and loneliness can bring about new growth." You explained why I love her music and you also explained feelings I've had but dont always know how to word. Thank you for speaking almost solely on her music and sound. Most people have so much heat and negativity for her (i get people are allowed their opinions) As a black woman when she hit the tumblr scene way back when I was so enamored. I, too, was the chocolate chip in the cookie at school for a while growing up. I understand being in spaces where when people did finally look like me, they still weren't always like me. Her music and vibe was one that I rarely saw in artists that looked like me. I finally actually related. Over the years her music has been with me and grown while still being relatable enough to truly digest on a deeper level. I appreciate her music so much and wish she knew how much she impacts the women like me who really hear her, and understand.

what a heartfelt review. by the end i felt i was listening to motivational speech. SZA's art is truly a musical journey and i now i understand why she gets the love/hate commentary she does, she's dynamic, fluid, human, supernatural, and doesn't fit "the box" as an artist and she OWNS that, that's was makes her timeless and iconic. She doesn't fit a standard, she is the standard and thats hard for some people to grapple with because she's so vast in her artistry people cant keep up with that.
