pipe welder apprentice here 2nd year and just picked this helmet up for ten bucks at my local princess auto. work at a steelplant so im curious to see how it stands to the test of time… I try and take care of my things. so far happy with the price and quality
I did the same thing on mine and I love it since is not heavy at all and how it clicks when the hood is up and when you ready to weld just move your head a lil bit and it goes down and it stops in the same spot all the time
Im a shipyard welder and i trashed my fibre metal a couple years ago when i ran across these. Theyre awesome, last 6 months, and are cheap as hell. Theyre small and flexible to get into tight spaces. The only thing i dont like is the lens retention clip throws my lens out sometimes when its flipped up and gets bumped.
@@JTwelder. oh snap didn't know that. a bunch of youtube helmet mods are for the sellstrom flip so I figured they were good. what flip front adapter do you recommend?
@@JTwelder. the issue I have with the flip is that there's so much space in the inside frame for the clear lens. I had to fit 4 lenses in there to keep it from rattling. and all that space and gap let's in a lot of smoke and fouling. maybe I just need a better/thicker gasket?
I was tempted to buy this from princess autos website but it was too much for shipping. Oh well. I can’t seem to grasp why they thought princess was a good name for a tool store
Michael Smith yeah I buy mine In store. Hahaha man I was wondering the same thing about the name! Really quite a one off! You can find these shields at pretty much any gas/welding supply store too by the way if you don’t want to ship one.
UPDATE, these are no longer available on the links. I used to run these, great helmets but I found the headgear stripped out really easily and I never knew it was Miller headgear. Switched to a tiger hood wish I could find another one of these, my local store sells them for about $35 CAD.
I'll put up new links they still sell them, I just saw a bunch in the store yesterday. Yeah these are made by a few different manufacturers some are Miller head gear others are Lincoln. When I buy one the headgear Goes directly in the garbage and is replaced with Miller stuff.
Just bought this helmet with 2.5x lens, and #9 gold lens at princess auto.Omg bud. I see exactly what you mean about the Miller headstrap. Smooth, small increments ratcheted motion to tighten. None of my other helmets are this comfortable. Really looking forward to trying it out tomorrow. My $200 Lincoln oh Canada helmet died. No battery to replace. Woohoo? Id rather need a battery to replace and carry on,than have a dead $200 helmet that can't be repaired. Thanks for the recommendation lad.very good video. @@lazycarper7925 www.machinemart.co.uk/p/clarke-hsf1-fixed-shade-welding-headshield/ no problem theres the link to it it comes with a few different lenses too
I’m trying to find one online, I had one before, was literally better than my digital elite that cost $400 because you can literally take it anywhere, get one of these and a pack of 100 clears and you are set.
Just starting out in welding as a career soon I got this helmet and a gold shade 12. I think it's good. I also have a cheap eBay deko autodark helmet with 4 arc sensors etc it works decent but idk if I'd use it all day. Can't really go wrong with passive welding helmets. Unfortunately the new autodarkening welding helmets in Canada are kinda huge with the flip up grinder shield not a fan
Chief Kai good so far. Most guys actually remove half of it so that the can flip the window down for tight spots where you can’t flip your whole shield down. Only thing I can recommend is if yours comes with some really shitty head gear just upgrade it it’s 100% worth it
I keep buying these, modifying them so they r lighter or more comfortable then I cut a little bit too much off and they go in the bin and I buy another one lol
Do you know if that helmet fits those larger respirators multi-variable cartridges ? I've seen Canadian boilermakers wear those cartridges on a youtube video. The welding helmet almost look identical to this one. thanks for the video. ruclips.net/video/DtQFGBGz8Tg/видео.html
this shield will fit the pancake filters but not the plastic filters. Yes in that video thats the exact same shield I have actually worked for that company "CIMS" before and they give these shields away for free to all the welders.
@@JTwelder. Thanks for the comment. Yea, I am trying to find a welding helmet that fits the same filters the boilermaker has on in the video at 4.25. I know you're an experienced welder, you have any ideas as to which helmets could fit those cartridges. Maybe pipeliner ?I hate auto-darkening helmets, thanks again.
Robert Porter I Have two of them myself and its about $100 each of them. They are awesome but this helmet does everything a pipeliner does and more. It’s a fraction of the price, it’s much much lighter and it fits in way way more tight spaces! I haven’t touched my pipeliners after using this shield.
I'm new to welding and looking for my first helmet. Im definitely going to buy this one. Thanks for the review

I bought one of these and put some jackson headgear in it and love it. In high school rn but I use it almost every day
with the Jackson head gear you have created the ultimate setup

Yeah there super useful!
Any of this in the UK ? Thanks
I just bought one🎉the lense is plastic though..shade seems very soft like a 8
Agree on the miller hard gear. Blows ass
glad i found an ontarian , gonna buy one of these tmr. subbed brother
ive had 2 of these exact helmets. throw a good lens in and they are mint. light and very comfortable
exactly man! super under rated shield. Once you use one you never go back to anything else.
hell yea i put a gold shade 10 in mine and its better than any others
I think I’m going to get one just to cut off the flip front and put it on my pipeliner hood. Union Ironworker lu135
yep I've saw guys that have done that its cheaper and better than the sellstrom flip!
Fellow boilermaker Local 1. Gotta USA link?
You have a link for the one of these that will fit the fibermetal headgear?
Just added it to the description.
Does it provide UV and IR protection. What shade does it come with. Thanks.
shade 11 and yes the plastic lenses are UV and IR protective but I would always wear safety glasses when using it
JTwelder
Ok, thanks for your reply, I’m going to pick one up.
@@JTwelder. sir how to order I'm from Philippines..
have you replaced the flip front with a sellstrom flip? would be interested in seeing a video on how to do that.
hell no! sellstrom flips are absolutely horrible!!! Worst mod ever I've had 3 of them and will never use one again!

They won’t ship to USA wanna ship me one please?!

hi, im in the uk, and i mig weld and the cheap auto dark one i have , i struggle to see the puddle, would this helmet help?

anyone know how to fit a auto lens in this hood? due to the edges of the clip mine will not fit
You have to file down the edges of the retainer clip to make it thinner.
Are passive helmets actually more popular than AD helmets with pro welders?
with the exclusion of shop welders yes 100% i barely ever see auto shields
Can I put auto darkening lens in this hood?
Yep most fit with some small modifications to the lens retaining clip
what do you need to do for modification to get it to fit?
Is there a cheap vender in the U.S.?
Profile Protected not sure but I assume so.
Look for Hobart hoods on Amazon only $10 us. Same hood.
I'd take my old Tigerhood with the flip and a auto darken any day of the week
light leaks in my tigerhood very easy. took it to the freaking trash

yeah man Ive seen a shade 10 lens a roll of duct tape and some cardboard be made into a more usefull shield that those fancy $400 ones!
where abouts in ontario?
I work around the entire province
Pipeliner for life!🤙🏼
I’m currently running a outlaw leather pipeliner with a shellstrom flip front on it. Love the pipeliner when on a hard hat!
JTwelder how do you like that hood so far?? Any cracks from the heat exposure or anything?
Chief Kai nothing man it’s been holding up amazing!
were can i buy one in the united states
Hobart has a similar one at northern tool
Its a real good spare helmet. As a primary its average. But this isn't really ment to be a primary helmet.
how much did the holla cost ? It’s all I use now and it’s definitely a great primary helmet.
How do you like this 12 dollar hood so far??
Chief Kai best hood I’ve ever owned!
