- Candy Apple TV: Candy Apple SECRET for Non Sticky Candy Apples- How to avoid sticky candy apples with dry powdered corn syrup will be shown here on Candy Apple TV. Nobody wants sticky candy apples, but in reality candy apples can get sticky…lol. Making candy apples non sticky is a question that most of you ask about. The sugar and corn syrup contributes to sticky candy apples. Candy apples are hard to last and maintain sticky free during hot outdoor events like pop-up shops, and birthday parties. It is very crucial to keep your candy apples as cool as possible to prevent sticky candy apples.
I done a sticky candy apple experiment by testing the products I used outside in 90 degree weather and the second one is in my mama's hot, humid house....lol. I done this experiment so you can decide on which product is best for you, in order to prevent sticky candy apples in hot humid areas.
The best thing you can do to try to keep your candy apples in great non sticky shape is to place your candy apples in a cool place. If you are going to be outside with no shade or cool area, it’s best to invest in a small portable refrigerator to keep your candy apples cool. I have small, cute portable refrigerators in my Amazon bake shop.
I used 4-3-1 candy apple recipe for both batches of candy apples. I compared the two batches of candy apples to see which batch would hold up better in high heat temperatures, and in hot, humid houses like my mother’s hot house…lol. She will not let anyone turn on the AC, so I thought it would be best to take the candy apples to my mother’s house since it’s always hot over there. I feel so sorry for the two ladies that cleans up my mother’s house because she won’t let them turn on the AC either. I told her they are going to end her contract…..lol.
I completed the comparison of the candy apples using Karo corn syrup and LorAnn's powdered corn syrup which can also be found down below in my Amazon bake shop. The pure white candy apples are the candy apples I used the powdered corn syrup. While the light pink candy apples are the candy apples I used regular Karo corn syrup.
I used 4-3-1 candy apple recipe for the light pink candy apples:
4 cups sugar
3 cups water
1 cup Karo
I also used 4-3-1 candy apple recipe for my best white candy apples:
4 cups of sugar
3 cups water
1 cup powdered corn syrup to make the candy apples last longer in hot temperatures.
How to prevent sticky candy apples is first making sure you cook and place your candy apples in a very cool place.

I saw your comment today under which social media you post your treats. I'm going to answer that this Saturday....lol.
Ok, I'm going to see what you did....lol.
Hi Love!! I am supposed to make cinnamon candy apples for a potluck, i am going to try this!! My question is, i have the LorAnnes cinnamon oil, super concentrated, im not sire how much to use. Was wondering if you have used this before and how much? I need to make 10 apples. 😊❤❤
Use a tiny amount. Like about 1/2 tsp for 10 because the oils are concentrated.💕
When you kept saying “Up in this Motha” 🤣🤣🤣 love it!
😂😂😂
So for hi-sweet, it sound as if using 2 tsps of favoring is best, and for liquid corn syrup, stick with 1 tsp or even a few drops. Is that correct? I just bought some hi-sweet and would LOVE to get the measuring as close to the taste of liquid corn syrup. Also, I don't dilute my mixture with as much water. Im wondering if that helps preserve the flavor, also. Thanks in Advance!
They will taste pretty much the same with whatever recipe that suits you. As far as flavor I always use 1-2 tsp. Usually 1 tsp for 12 apples or less and 2 tsps for 12+ apples. I hope this helps you.💕
@@DIYQUEENDIVA It does, Thank You!
How do you measure hi sweet?
I make mine equivalent to the liquid corn syrup. 1 cup liquid corn syrup = 1 cup Hi Sweet. I hope this helps you.💕
@@DIYQUEENDIVA ok! Thank you so much!
You're so welcome.
Aloha from Hawaii! Thanks sister! I'll be taking my apples to the market. I'll let you know how they hold up in this island heat! Bless
Ok, please let me know. It shouldn't be so hot at this time of the year. Take pictures and post them in the Facebook group.
Lol that’s how my grandma is . It be so hot and she wrapped up in a blanket 😂😂 I love her though . Thanks for the tips . I haven’t started making candy apples yet but I’m soaking up everything
🤣🤣🤣You’re so welcome.
I been using your method and everyone love the thin ones.
I'm glad everyone enjoyed them! My mother who is 70 years of age loves them. She bites down right into them.
Thank you. Just got mine in mail
You're so welcome!
Thank you. This is tbe video i was looking for! I live in Florida and my candy Apples always look nice but get sticky quick
Glad it was helpful and you’re so welcome.💕
I Was Using Another Recipe, SOOO!!! Happy I Found Yours, Been Using It And Never Went Back To The Other Recipe, Please Continue To Bless Us Home Bakers At Home Thank This Craft To Doing A Extra Income That Is Needed!!!!!, THANK YOU!!!, WOULD PLEASE TELL ME HOW MUCH POWDERED CORN STRACH TO USE FOR THE SMALL BATCH RECEIPE AS WELL AS THE LARGE, PLEASE!!!!! I HAVE A LARGE ORDER FOR NEXT WEEK111, THANK YOU AGAIN
Thank you so much. Use the same amount that you use for liquid. For an example if you’re using 6-4-1 you will still only use one cup. I hope this helps you.💕
thanks!!!!!!!
You’re so welcome.💕
Good morning, I made the dry karo syrup method, but it did not come out well. The candy was super hard and grainy look. It did not stick to the back -I like that. I used the 4-3-1 method.
I will try again.
Make sure you stir well all ingredients before putting on the stove. Once on the stove do not stir. If you stir while cooking this can cause a gritty texture. Get a teaspoon to add your gel food coloring to avoid too much that makes your candy apples thick. If possible add one tiny drip drop. That is preferred over a teaspoon. Add your color last and see how they come out. I hope this help you. Candy apples are hard but you can avoid the thickness.💕
@@DIYQUEENDIVA Thank you so much! I will retry and let you know how it go.
Correction to other message: I meant it did not stick to the bag.
Also, it took my candy about 1.5 hour to reach 300 degrees. Is that normal?
It just depends on how low you had your stove and how hot it gets. Anywhere from 45-60 minutes. You must have patience until it reaches 300 degrees. Perfection takes time. Just never go higher than 5.💕
@@DIYQUEENDIVA good to know. I feel better and confident!! Excited. Thank you
I tried thr Powdered Corn syrup and the apples I made with the Karo kept longer. The powdered Corn syrup ones began breaking down sooner.
That's odd...lol. That usually helps when it's humid and hot. I wonder if the temperatures in your room was different.
@DIYQUEENDIVA I typically keep it at 65 no matter the weather. It was my 1st go. I'm doing another batch on Monday and I'll use it again since I have it. I'll keep you posted.
Ok.
Ok.
So humid here apples too sticky. Just got the powder from Amazon today. Ready to try this.
The powdered corn syrup will help you out a lot with those sticky candy apples.
It’s raining here. Can’t get any more humid. Made apples using hi sweet using 4-3-1 recipe. 4 hours in the 2 I wrapped ( one on shelf. One in fridge) are good not sticky yet. The ones not wrapped are get sticky. Trying to get into candy apple business. I should have turned AC down more !
@@davidharmon5112 make sure you bag the apples right away after you're done dipping your apples. Don't just let the candy apples sit out in a humid house because they will get sticky. Since it's so humid in your house it wouldn't hurt to crank up the AC. Make sure you place them in the refrigerator right away once you're done bagging since it's so humid there. I hope this helps you.
Y does my mixture turn brown? I have it on low heat and it’s taking forever and still turning brown😭
It will do that sometimes and that’s fine because some stoves just get hotter than others. It wouldn’t hurt to replace your candy thermometer.💕
Would this recipe be okay for shipping? Love your videos 💕
Yes of course! You still need to make sure they maintain cool during shipment. Especially during hot months.
Tysm for responding! Would i use the gel packs that you freeze?
Yes. Make sure you wrap it good so it won’t get your box wet.
Hi! You stated that the taste was "off" when using the Hi Sweet. Would adding more flavoring fix that? So say you first add a tsp of flavor- would adding 2 tsps or even 1 whole tbsp be better? That way it should taste more like the flavor you're adding?
It wasn’t too bad because I still ate them, but yes another teaspoon of flavoring would’ve gotten it.
Thank you for this video!!! I've been wondering about powdered corn syrup because my apples are always sticky!
You’re so welcome. It really helps.
@@DIYQUEENDIVA definitely going to get some. No matter how cool I keep my house, my apples are sticky before I can even bag them. I don't do enough apples to invest in a dehumidifier (and I honestly don't think my kitchen is humid) but the hi sweet sounds like the perfect solution
@@MrsTlotto try the Hi Sweet. This should help you. If your house is really cold but your candy apples still are sticky before you bag them, I bet it’s the humidity. Let me come back and see if I can find something cheap for you to test the humidity in your house.
Is the best policy to add white color, flavor, and color first before boiling? Or does it matte when?
Great question! It doesn't matter when. I usually add absolutely everything at the beginning, however with white candy apples I always add the white last because I want my white candy apples white as possible. If you add the white at the beginning and the candy turns brown, then your white is not a pearl white. I hope this helps you.

You are the bomb!
Thank you!😀
Hi use this when I had started doing apples but I use the whole bag. How much do I use for 2 dozens?
You just replace it with the amount you would use with Karo. For an example: If you use 4-3-1 candy apple recipe which is 4 cups of sugar, 3 cups of water, and 1 cup of powdered corn syrup. You're just replacing the liquid with the powdered using the same amount. I hope this helps. Please let me know.
@@DIYQUEENDIVA when I tell you my mix was so sugary I had to start over with my 6 4 1 . I had to add more water I don’t know what happened.
I hope you didn't use that whole bag of powdered corn syrup again...lol. How many apples are you doing? How did your apples come out the last time? They shouldn't be sugary at all. This is just a learning process for you. I know you will catch on!
@@DIYQUEENDIVA I used a cup but I don’t know what happened. I made another batch and it came out great. But it had me late bringing my order.
Ok! I'm so happy your last batch came out great. I don't know what you had done the first time. Don't worry about being late, they loved the candy apples. I'm always running late.
Hello. It made my apples too hard. Can I use the Karo and maybe a tea spoon of high sweet ....to avoid sweating? I live in Florida
Hi! I’ve never mixed it up because Hi Sweet actually helps your candy apples in high humidity from melting. If you live in Florida I wouldn’t mix it up. You should use Hi Sweet in humid areas. I hope this helps you.💕
@@DIYQUEENDIVA Thanks again! I will follow your lead! 😆
You’re so welcome.💕
Hi..do you have a video of marble candy apples? If not, would you add the colors at the end after your mixture has reached 300 degrees?
I do have a marbled candy apple video: ruclips.net/video/9-CnMuaH8OM/видео.html To answer your second question, you are correct. Add your colors at the end after your candy mixture has reached 300 degrees.

I just love you more than your candy apples😅 keep doing your thing queen❤
What else could I use besides that cornstarch powder until I order it to stop it from sticking
You’re talking about the powdered corn syrup correct? This is about the best you’re going to get to stop the sticky candy apples in humid temperatures. What’s exactly going on with your apples?
I went to Walmart and Michael's they did not have it I would have to order it offline and I need it for tomorrow so I don't know what to do
You can only pretty much find this online and would be lucky if you find it in a local store. Just do the best you can with keeping them cool. Is the event outside?
@@DIYQUEENDIVA yes
Just try to keep them as cool as you can. If you can get a small portable refrigerator to plug up at the event that will work too.
LOL i love how you eat your candy apples , i have a question, how much powdered corn syrup would you use for a small batch of small apples? i just got my powdered syrup in the mail so i have four apples preparing for dipping.
1/2 cup
@@DIYQUEENDIVA Thank ya ma'am ❤️
You're so welcome.
In this Motha😅
LOLLLLLLLLLL! She still over there with the heat on 80 and it's 100 degrees outside!
Hi what if I’m storing them in a cool place and they are still melting? What would you suggest?
Have you tried placing them in the refrigerator? Do you live a state where it's humid and hot for this to keep happening? Have you tried dry corn syrup instead of liquid form?
Baby you are it on candy 🍎
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoy my candy apple tutorials.💕
