If you follow the World Baton Twirling Championships every two years held by the WBTF, the gold medalists in almost every category for the last 15+ years are by far from Japan. I think that is what is meant by Japan having the "best" twirlers, and even "best" is in the eye of the beholder.

Wonder if she could study rhythmic gymnastics with a goal of winning a gold medal in the olympics? Her baton twirling seems very similar to some rhythmic gymnastics. Winning a gold medal would be a fitting conclusion to her present development.

Baton is more about fluidity rythmic gymnast is more about the grace and flow and you can do more in baton like flips

Not sure what you mean by "now", but as far as I know, Mei has not competed in Japan or internationally for the past several years. I do know, however, that another baton twirler who was in the same Tokyo baton club as Mei around the time of this video is the current World Champion in the Adult/Senior women category. Her name is Mai Koyanagawa. Look her up in the 2023 Liverpool World Championships if interested.
