Preach. I try to tell people this that didn’t watch the games/injuries, and they respond with “he’s injury prone or he needs to learn to slide!” Yes, and he did. The concussion was fluke, and the “knee” injury wasn’t even an injury in the sense it was late 4th Q, and the Colts had no hope to win so they kept him out. Coach and AR both said he could have went back in. Your analysis of the season ending injury is spot on. I was at the stadium that day, and it was sad. We won, but you could hear murmurs when people were walking out. Alas, he should be ready for training camp, and a good sophomore campaign. Go Colts.
Anthony Richardson is 21. He will heal well. He will have almost a whole year to watch, learn, and think about NFL level football. When he returns, he will be stronger, older, wiser, and very hungry to play. He will have time to learn about many opposing team's defenses and he will do all of this without pressure to perform. When Anthony Richardson returns in the fall of 2024, he will be amazing. This is a 1/1 NFL player. There is still no one else in the entire league like him. That will be the case next year too. AR5's injuries were all sustained while running. He's a physical specimen but he has also been knocked out of all but 1 game this year. It is what it is.
Also AR rarely if ever bailed on a pass play, he’s been almost exclusively running only on designed runs. It’s an easy fix and the injury was just unlucky
This could be a blessing in disguise. My worry with AR5 coming out of the draft was how raw he was as a prospect. Now he gets to sit behind Minshew for the year and maybe learn some things like Mahomes did sitting behind Alex smith. AR could maybe get a better understanding of the nfl and become better then he already was.
Anthony Richardson isn't necessarily hurt because he rushed, but he did not help his chances with how often he took hits instead of sliding. Most people might not remember, but the week before this injury he had a concussion because he kept taking hits instead of sliding
I was so hoping to see him develop this year, he had done some good things. I know Shane can do what he did with hurts but also what he did with Herbert, so it should be a great mix, but make sure we run the ball, with our backs more then with AR, just to try and minimize the wear and tear.
This specific injury might not have been caused by him running, but if he doesn't learn to slide...he's going to RG3 himself right out of the league. I'm a Colts fan, and Richardson has shown some spark...I'm excited...and I hope he runs all over the place. But you gotta learn to slide, and to slide correctly/safely. Aaron rodgers is 39, no shit he was hurt. Brady missed 10% of his games in his entire career. Not being a rushing QB doesn’t make you immune to injury. He had incredible longevity, and was really only hurt badly for one year on an ACL tear. Lamar Jackson is literally a running QB, who hasn’t been in injured since 2020 (although he has not been injured this year). Brock Purdy has only sustained that single injury in his career. Richardson has already reported more injuries than Purdy, and he was drafted a year before Richardson. Was there no better examples than a 39 year old, a guy who had remarkable longevity, a rushing QB, and a guy who’s only been injured once?
