    I once shut my boot with the battery disconnected, my face must have been a picture as I realised what I had done! Luckily there is a pull cord under the rear seat for manual release. It’s in the manual I think! Might make a nice quick video and save someone! Just a thought! Keep up the good work this channel has helped me no end 👍

    Another Great Video M Tech Guy. Some great tips, I also replaced the Gasket, Adapter & Screw Cap as they where surprising cheap for BM Parts! Getting the pipes of the old filter was defiantly the hardest part. I highly recommend leaving your goggles on throughout the filter removal as when I took one of the connectors of it chucked fuel in my face. Car is defiantly running smoother now, I also did the charcoal canister at the same time. Thanks once again, keep the vids coming

    Hi mate, thanks again for your video. Just did the job on mine but must have done something wrong. I was careful not do damage the fuel level sensor but after reinstalling everything and going to fill the tank at the station, the fuel level is showing just half tank, like precisely on the half instead of the full tank. Very strange. Now i need to empty the tank by driving enough to reduce the fuel level to remove the unit without spreading fuel everywhere out of the tank. I suspect also that maybe the tubes could prevent the sensor from going up totally.

    • @MTechGuy
      @MTechGuy  Год назад +1

      Possible it may be caught up with the hose routing? When you have it out, check the sender on the new pump to ensure it looks ok and isn’t faulty out the box. Make sure the sender arm can travel freely when you reinstall it

    • @romleprom
      @romleprom Год назад +1

      @@MTechGuy i felt like it was free when i reinstalled it but you see, maybe i should pay more attention to that. I also think that it could come from a bad sensor. I ordered another one and will replace it in 350km.

    • @MTechGuy
      @MTechGuy  4 года назад

      Could be any number of issues. Running the car under 1/4 tank of fuel, or a really dirty fuel filter can both contribute to blowing the fuse (the pump to overheating) If the pump & filter are both original it’ll be a good time to replace them- the filter has to come out to get the pump out anyhow. The noise could be SMG pump, stereo amp or leak detection pump (usa) or faulty fuel pump relay, among other things

    Is there a good way to depressurize the fuel system so that the fuel feed line won’t spray fuel everywhere? I heard an empty gas tank (less than 10 miles), disconnecting the battery, and leaving the car overnight should relieve some of the pressure.

    • @MTechGuy
      @MTechGuy  3 года назад +1

      The pressure isn’t that bad, it’s the volume of fuel in the line spilling out that’s the tricky bit!

      I did mine with somewhere between a quarter and half tank. I let it sit overnight, disconnected the battery, and barely had any fuel spill out. It was very manageable.

    If you take off the gas cap and/or take out the fuel pump fuse or relay before you pull the hose from the assembly. Would there still be fuel pressure when you pull the hose?

    • @MTechGuy
      @MTechGuy  Год назад

      Removing the gas cap will relive the tank to atmospheric pressure, but the fuel pressure will remain in the lines. If you remove the fuel pump fuse/relay you’d have to run the engine to relive the pressure in the line- something I wouldn’t recommend with this engine. If you let the car sit for a few hours there isn’t that much pressure there

      Possibly fuel filter or fuel pump. Could also be related to fuel pump fuses or fuel pump module. I would start with the fuses, and chuck in a new fuel filter if it’s not had one for a long time, and go from there. Keep in mind the fuel filter has to come out to replace the fuel pump so it’s worth considering doing both while your at it, but of course it comes down to time and how much $$$ you want to spend in one go 👍

The car is on 105,000 miles.Do you agree? Thanks Andy

      It sounds like a fuel pump issue, I would check the fuel pump fuses before fitting a new pump though. Sometimes a faulty pump will work in the early failure stages if you get someone to hit the fuel tank while cranking. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a fuel filter that blocked before. If it’s fuel related it’s more likely the fuel pump itself, or the pressure regulator (which is part of the fuel filter assembly) Could be any number of other possible causes though, scan for codes and go from there

      Finally got around to doing it, and a few extra hints.
      My car has the heated rear seats, so if you’ve got these then make sure you disconnect the cables under the seat, one on each side.
      Secondly - threading the seat belt through the hole in the sound insulation and over the head rest is a great way to gently hold this out of the way without obstructing the work area or damaging the sound proofing.
      And finally- whilst it is impossible to connect the hoses incorrectly, it is possible to route the two long hoses the wrong way and impede the free movement of the fuel sender. So its worth paying attention to how they are routed when you take the old filter out.
      Thanks for another great video 👍🏻
