I saw some shithead youtuber post a video about how the PS2 and xbox era was a time of growing pains for the game industry. He has no idea that time was the last generation when games were made so people can have fun, before the trend of letting corporate CEO's take over big gaming companies in hopes to increase profits.
Building tension by having the characters read about all the crazy stuff without actually telling the player anything is a pretty genius move if you think about it.
If the audience wants to know about the explots of Jake "The Machine Wolf" Hongo they can look at the wikipedia article like everyone else, pretty lazy of them to just expect information to be spoon-fed.
My favorite part was how he just had the scrapbook onhand. Like just… glasses, phone, wallet, keys, album of Jake Hongo’s exploits… standard sh*t he brings with him whenever he leaves his house.
I genuinely remember playing this, but I was very young at the time so I had absolutely no idea what the hell was happening back then. Good to see that hasn't changed because I still have no idea what on earth is going on with this game.
The mid-fight “You bumbler” taunt is actually a reference to Bumbler Interactive, who were creative consultants during development. They were actually the ones who decided to increase the sun’s brightness to 150%.

So, to understand this game and see it for the masterpiece that it is, you need to both have worked in construction AND seen bee movie to fully comprehend the deep lore. For example, when he repeatedly shouts "YOU BUMBLER" he is actually referring to the bumbler bee, a species of bee featured in bee movie. And the crane he is driving is something construction guys use for work, but he uses it for fighting. The lore runs deep but it makes you work to fully understand it, and this game is a masterpiece much akin to the critically acclaimed roleplaying game, Elderly Ring.
I worked in construction and this was EXACTLY what it was like. fighting competing companies for the rights on a gig or competing with other installation professions as you try to work around their garbage installation jobs

They also made a open-world caveman game where the objective was to kill enough mammoths to build a tower to the sun with their tusks, and that had a day-night cycle where the player character would instantly fall asleep on the spot no matter what he was doing.

As someone who has done construction work this is extremely accurate I always gasp at the sun and almost die when walking out of the trailer off break.
I had this game back on ps2. Played it all the way through and loved every second of it. Looking back it was an absolute mess of a game, but I was eight and my dad worked as a builder driving a digger all day, which meant it was the coolest shit. I'd always thought it was one of those games that nobody other than me had played, like Robot Warlords and Dropship: United Peace Force. Prime grocery store bargain bin material.

I was a couple years late to the party on getting a PS2 for christmas and this was legit amongst the first PS2 games I owned. I remember thinking it was actually pretty good, just a really rogue pick from my dad.
My favorite part of the game was when it revealed that the dude who decided which companies got the construction jobs actually had been faking for several chapters the contracts in order to incite the heroes and the "villains" into fighting each other in BCV.
The gameplay is intense and satisfying while the story is truly engaging with many twists and turns. I have to give Extreme Construction Truck Battle a 12/10, masta peese

Not only does someone have a fan album of Hongo, everyone then proceeds to browse through the album, ignoring Hongo who’s stuck holding his alpha pose. Respect and disrespect in one scene.
During the story, there's a subplot where someone with a woman's name is joining the crew, and the main guy fantasizes about it being a cute girl. Instead, it's a big muscle man. Then he ends up having a gay romance with Hongo.
The overreaction to the sun is actually a subtle nod to the fact that Hayato is British and as such has never seen the sun before.

Dropship might have been slept on, but it was a pretty good arcade flight sim. The sound was fantastic. Ground missions could be wonky though.

I was a couple years late to the party on getting a PS2 for christmas and this was legit amongst the first PS2 games I owned. I remember thinking it was actually pretty good, just a really rogue pick from my dad.

My favorite part of the game was when it revealed that the dude who decided which companies got the construction jobs actually had been faking for several chapters the contracts in order to incite the heroes and the "villains" into fighting each other in BCV.

As a fellow redhead I can confirm every time I open the door and it's too bright outside I have a near-death experience.
When I was living in Denver, (little known fact, its actually 5000 miles closer to the sun but is only known as the mile high city) I would literally do this when I went outside in summer. In fact sometimes I would also curse loudly and yell at the sun and say "You Bumbler!!"

During the story, there's a subplot where someone with a woman's name is joining the crew, and the main guy fantasizes about it being a cute girl. Instead, it's a big muscle man. Then he ends up having a gay romance with Hongo.
