Hi Phil! Would you recommend to take a trancsendental meditation course or go at it on our own? I am familiar with basic vipassana meditation, but I've heard about folks like Tim Ferriss and Ray Dalio swearing by it, so I've been really considering it. Even though I make a very good income, admittedly I am kind of cheap to shell out $1500 on a course if I can learn it myself. Thoughts?
Get myself and my baby ready, listen to the InvestED podcast over breakfast and as I do my chores throughout my day, then baby and I go to daily mass. I try and squeeze in yoga if I can. I have been listening to your podcast since this summer and my husband and I love it! I have been learning so much along with Danielle's investing journey and have 50 odd episodes left to listen to now. After that I really look forward to reading your books, Uncle Warren's letters, and do some proper deep research into companies I like. I really can't express just how contagious is your enthusiasm for investing. You are an amazing teacher, Phil, and what you teach is changing our lives. Thank you for putting all this out there.
First thing in the am, around 5:30am I help the wife with kids. Get some coffee, watch CNBC for 1 hour and decide if I need to do some option selling or sell overpriced stocks, I work from home so then I start work. I try to complete about 80 to 90% of all my tasks for work. I go for a nice long walk around 2pm. Have family time till 7pm so I can work for another 4 hours. Go to bed around 11pm. Wash, Rinse and Repeat.
Sounds like you've got your routine down! I like how you split up the work day and make time for family... sounds like you have your priorities straight.
My morning routine is praying and studying God's Word for about 15-30 minutes. Next I head to Planet Fitness and exercise for 30-60 minutes. Shower there and head off to my chiropractic office. Take care of patients, paperwork, marketing the practice, work also on my volunteer stuff for church, learning the investing stuff then head home. Trying to get things unpacked and organized as we moved my Mom into our new house about a year ago and due to my husband's health, have been unable to really move into our home. Mom passed in March so now going through her things. Settling into a new normal.
*I like the idea of this video. While some of us still have day-jobs or run businesses it's also cool to see what life could be if you decide to go for investing full time. Thanks!*
Everyday wake up at 7 am. Sharp!! Have my cup of tea. Love that ! Listen to news on radio while making breakfast. Mostly a nice tuna sandwich. Little yoga or a brisk walk. I don’t work 9-5. Lucky me!! Check my diary and note my appointments. If I have work to attend I’ll get ready beautifully and professionally. And ready for the day!!
For me as a 23 year old, I wake up at 3:30 a.m. and read until I need to get ready for work around 5 a.m., work until 3 p.m., then I listen to a podcast on any number of topics while I work out at the company gym, and then I study finance until around 5 p.m. when I relax with my partner or call my mom and then we head to bed at around 7 p.m. :) I don't work in the finance industry but one day I want to, so I took your advice and have been reading as much as I can about everything, haha!
As a college student learning to invest my routine usually consists of waking up at 6am, biking to the bus stop, and on the way to campus I listen to Wallstreet Journal podcasts for updates. I keep an eye out for anything huge and stay focused in class; checking the hourly trends can be distracting! I end at noon and on the ride back I either read the Wall Street journal,or if its a Tuesday it HAS to be the InvestED podcast (personal favorite) I get home and see if anything is on sale, if not I go to the gym to stay well and come back to listen to any new quarterly statements from my wishlist and read as much as possible!
I really like the "Realness" that you bring Phil. I do have a morning routine...journal, meditate, listen to my daily goals (I recorded them with background music), then get started on the day. Your Rule #1 Investing comes at a great time for me...I look forward to growing in both my investing and in new friendships along the way!
Hey Phil, I am one of the students in the transformational investing course! (loving all that I am learning from you and my instructor) I worked at Starbucks back in my early 20's (I'm now 43) and I own my own espresso machine so I can make myself a MACCHIATO for my morning routine! Honestly I usually have a latte or americano. I just love that you appreciate a well made espresso drink. Thank you so much for the education and keep the content coming. RUclips needs more solid content like yours, cheers!
Thanks, Phil. Very instructive. I no longer have a true routine. I am retired and spend a couple of hours reading, and analyzing stocks (but rarely buy or sell). If I have a routine, it is spending time around the house and yard doing repairs and upkeep - things I let slide while I was working up to 60 hours a week. This video will make me focus a little more. I need to increase my reading more than the one hour a day. Thanks, again!
Loved this, thank you. I AM surprised. I'm surprised by how much it aligns for me as well. You are living my ideal life. I just need the horses. It was all very helpful.
This guy is like my grandpa ( owns a horse farm) if he was an investor, and liked to read. I have been trying to get my grandpa into reading for a long time. I am going to show him this video
i have been watching your videos for 6 months and I found a mentor like you said. I Dont have alot of money but I invest ten percent of my weekly paycheck. i invest 60% in stock and 30% in physical silver. I am happy to tell you that in 6 months listening to you I am up 40% on my brokerage account. thank you for all your wisdom.
Key takeaway, read read read. Read for hobby, read for living, read for fun, read for learning, read as if that's the only thing that will make you amazingly successful throughout your life. And what you read - If you find a way to apply that knowledge (say a job, business idea, side project) don't disregard it. Think critically of it and if you feel convinced (unconvinced is not same as lazy) act on it
Thanks for sharing this Phil! I meditate first thing when I wake up and try to fit in 45 minutes of reading before hitting my busy job then go for a run in the forest to center myself (with friends or alone)
Up by 6 am to send hubby to the office. Oatmeal for breakfast while studying Scripture and memorizing/meditating. Check all communication - personal and social. Write in my blog. By 10 am I’m ready to consider the world: news, the businesses I own (aka stocks) any news? Any earnings? Any trades? Any thing? Then my reading list ... most factual but I love my fiction so I use a 3:1 ratio there. Working for myself has helped my investing so very much. When I worked for someone else, I had to go into the office about an hour ahead of everyone else to check on my businesses and then take a morning break to execute any planned action. It worked out then, but it’s much easier today.
This made me feel so much better, I've been doing investments for a couple years now, and I always find it difficult how to explain how I do it. I think listening to podcasts, or reading, watching documentaries, going to stores to watch consumer behavior, buying products and seeing whats good and bad about them, watching your friends purchasing behavior all is super important. Having a basic understanding of Micro economics is huge too, I think we focus way too much on the macro economics which can affect the markets in the short term, but the long term winners are all based on microeconomics of the economy by and large. I try to listen to hours of podcasts a day, watch cnbc, think about the economics of businesses I own or are interested in buying, and comparing them to the alternative. It's difficult because if you aren't working at a firm the process is actually really simple and not super complicated but sometimes that forces you into taking actions when it's not required. I almost feel like I need to do extra work just to make sure I don't do something dumb with my buying and selling.
Yes, how do you to this when you work full time? The visual of your lifestyle is SO AMAZING and I wonder how many of us can do this? You are living large!
Yep I hav something to say. Rule #1. Picked up that book about a doz years ago. And I still lost money but I've made it back. I too hav a unique schedule. It's when I get up. I don't like investing. That portfolio is for the guys that I gave discretion to. The portfolio I keep at home is for trading only. That's where I have my fun. The faster the better. Crude. Risk on risk off. But I picked up the on sale part from you in an interview I saw 10 years ago. Something about shirts I believe . I follow the range and the news. That makes it move. I like that and will average down and kill it when it turns. Don't care for reading and don't care for dead money. Motorcycle is my lift. Harley. 1 minute or 1 hour that's my day on the range. Keep one eye on the ball. Start out with water. That gets the blood flow. Then comes the coffee. Jus thought I'd tell a little of me and says thanks for the memories in the book.
Thanks Phil that is great hearing about the way you structure your day. My day trading routine starts at 7am-7:30am with a cardio exercise (Jumprope:), then meditation, then breakfast, and starting the day at 8:30-9am. I work as a Paralegal in a full time job (right now from home), so I do not have much time now to invest in trading, but starting from Jan 2021, I am planning on investing more time and taking it as a full time. Right now, my trading time is not set or framed, and usually I have time before (8am) or after work (5pm) to read and going over my watching list, and watch news about the companies I am interested in. Very excited starting my trading journey with Rule #1
You are a master, Phil! This video was so awesome! Thank you for sharing. I went to your workshop a while ago in Vancouver and loved it! and I’m trying to get cheap flights to go to your next workshop in Georgia in December! I am so eager to learn more about your lifestyle and investing style, and Want to take this full trottle. Both You and mellissa are so inspiring, I had a long chat with her in VIP about your relationship and you guys are both so genuine and kind!
Reading is great! I was reading consistently but it's also good to take action. My favorite book is "The Richest Man in Babylon" . Just remember to be patient because it takes time to get where you want to go. You always have great advice! Thank You!
I usually start work between 5 and 6 in the morning, but some days I sleep in. I work for a few hours at home and then take public transit into town, and I read or study during the commute.
Phil, are you writing a new book?!?! I'm taking your investing class with Andy B and Andy H and am loving it!!! Can't wait to start the Advanced Strategies class!!!!
Hi Phil! I just came across your videos a few days ago and knew there was a connection when you mentioned to be like the Dalai Lama in the first video I watched. See, I have been diving deep into my spiritual self and now I'm resurfacing into the world of investing after being confused about which path to take...I'm motivated by my spiritual goals of being financially free and living the life I want. I love that you incorporate meditation, yoga, nature and animals into your day! I'm studying investing and dog walking on the side. Thanks for showing us that these things (investing and spirituality) go hand in hand and that it's possible to take both paths :) I plan on watching all of your videos! Do you have any workshops or tours coming up?
I like your tip about keeping up on reading up. In my case, I hate wasting time reading and my attention span is short, but I love to learn about new things that would interest me. How do you generate ideas that is worth reading up on for any potential investment? News or movies? The day's theme? The future's possibilities (e.g. robots)? Random picks?
I workout regularly Rowing is a good exercise, it's muscle training cardio, and targets the legs, lower and upper back, which is good for posture Rowing is almost like a horizontal deadlift But less set up Also those fly wheels automatically add resistance as you pull harder
I get up at noon here in Moscow. watch cnbc and youtube with coffee, place a trade, and then just play seriously all day with my 4y.o.son. Though once a week I go out to office and tax service office etc. In the evening at 9-10 pm I read my son a book or tell him a "scary" story, then check my trades - as nasdaq closes at midnight localtime)) then spend 2-3 hours researching and learning.
I have a question what do you think if you watch a ton of documentaries instead of reading books like I really enjoy them about various subject and it helps me learn quite alot but I admit I rarely read
OMG Phil o that was you on the plane from Toronto to Atlanta... I walked by you on the plane and I'm like i know him somewhere. Damn it didn't realize it was you. It was great seeing you in person for that millisecond!!!
Up at 6 am, take my vitamins, sit down and study Kanji/Japanese until 7. Take shower, eat breakfast go to work - 8-5 pm (I read stuff - online - throughout the day - investment stuff included). Come home, go for a run (1 hour), take shower, practice guitar (1 hour), have dinner (watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy) with my wife. Read until I get sleepy and then go to bed. (I do most of my investing research on the weekend.)
I could never work out in the morning lol, I'm dead when I wake up and get up an hour before I gotta be to work to give myself a chance to wake up. Coffee>make my lunch>sit on my computer for a bit>travel to work. Working out is always in the evenings.
Set my heart and mind on Jesus through silence, then I pray in tongues, and then I do something I call fellowship with the Holy Spirit. After this, I help take care of my two young children. Then I work in ministry until 6. Then I help with the children again until they go to bed. I exercise and then read Phil's books as I am new to investing.
Hey there Phil. It was recommended that I check in with your training. You had me straight away with your 'lack of routine'. I can totally relate and I feel excited to know that a business life can be set up without having to be completely structured. Gotta LOVE that! You've made my day. Thanks so much. I Home Educate my daughter and we go for Natural led/Child led Learning, so no routines here although we might benefit from a bit more structure sometimes.
You clear your head with one horse, I clear mine with a lot of horsepower. Basically the same thing. Also agree with you that NYC is an echo chamber. I’m in the LA suburbs and I prefer to do deals with guys outside NYC.
This is my dream daily routine. Ok maybe except the horse riding haha. My personal routine is centred around my 9 to 5 job (or more like 10 to 6). You know how it goes...
Phil, thanks so much for sharing this! I see a trend nowadays on doing meditation and I was wondering if you’re using any specific apps for that. Loved the quote: investing is what happens while you wait!
I live ooverseas. I wake up at 0330 to catch the later part of the market and look at the movements along with doing my research on stocks I want to buy. 0500 cook and get ready for work. Leave at 0615 and begin my workday.
But how do you earn money if you are just keeping on reading the entire day? Basically how do you arrange fund / capital to invest if your days are spent only reading? I also like to read a lot but that doesn't pay me ! So I work also.
well Sir, you have inspired me. Although I have kidney disease, I'm going to figure out a routine i can do to center myself. I also meditate, but I need to find some exercises I can do too. Thank you!!!
Phil alittle off subject I have limited funds great ideas you have on buying wonderful companies on sale . My problem is keeping the cash to do so at the best time should I just invest in a good mutual fund to hold and withdraw when the opportunity arises . Thanks for your videos your a cool guy
When I wake up I text my wife to see when she is coming home for lunch, while I'm laying there I scan through my up dates from TD Ameritrade and check some of my holdings. When she answers I either shower or try to cook real fast while making coffee. Then I go outside and get the newspaper. After we eat I will pack my lunch for work, check our online businesses, get dressed for work and leave by 2 PM. When I get home at 4 am I will un pack my cooler, check our businesses record every penny we made or spent and what on and if it was business or personal. Check and see how our holding company is and if we got paid any dividends. Then hopefully in bed by 5 am so I can be up by 11am to do it all over again. you would think that after investing for over 20 years I wouldnt still be working 60-80 hrs a week for someone else, but yet I am. It isn't as easy as some think. I may never become financially free doing this, but I admit I love doing it and if i have to keep working for someone else to keep investing so be it.
Great daily routine but for us beginners I feel we need to crank up the the appetite to learn to invest the right way and put lots of energy into that. What routine advise do you have for a beginner with a ferocious appetite to be a great investor
Hi Phil, Love your material mate - learnt a lot from you 👍🏻🙌🏻 Just wondering how you stay motivated to read and work hard day after day. Do you ever get bored or feel unmotivated?
Hi Phil, I am sure I am talking for many of us here when I ask you if you could please talk about the current situation of the market. Many are buying following the principle that prices are cheap (mostly in the -for many- overrated TECH companies) and the prices keep falling to new 53 weeks lows. Could you make a video about this? thanks!
“If you look at the world, you'll be distressed. If you look within, you'll be depressed. If you look at God you'll be at rest.” ― Corrie Ten Boom ...and as Tim Keller said, "start each morning by looking in the mirror and reminding yourself, "I am not God." Having that perspective gives you rest, and let's you make decisions without worrying too much. You just ultimately aren't in control! But God is, and promises to guide through the valleys and the mountains of life...even in investing.
Thanks for the great video, Phil Town. I read a lot of books on math, physics along with self-growth. After hearing you out on the daily routine, I never knew investors can read what they want. I thought they read mainly business information. Once I finished watching the video, I realized that's the lifestyle I envision for myself. How can I be an investor with that type of lifestyle of reading a lot and learning everyday?
Hey Shin! In this video I walk you through an average day for me as a full-time investor. How much time do I actually spend with the investing part and how much do I spend with the rest of my daily activities? The answer might surprise you! bit.ly/2N5G946
I used to get into the office and after turning on the work computer opening checked facebook to see what the family was doing but now its opening up the Rule 1 website and starting to dig in. I am also digging into some annual reports from some wonderful companies and sipping my 11 cent coffee that I bring from home. I dont like the high falutin coofee that you do Phil!! :)
Phil, do you find you sit too much though? Like, I WANT to read all of the things, but my M-F 9-5 (ugh) is soo sedentary I have trouble sitting and reading after work and even on weekends. Help!
I go to bed at 3 am wake up at 10 am Watch you tube videos for an hour or tv in bed then get up get shaved showered and dressed grab a quick bite to eat and then start work at 11.30 am until 7.00 pm.after that I eat dinner go for a walk in the evening with the missus then we come home and watch TV till bed.
Key lesson here: Be rich enough to not have to spend all your waking hours at a job and can instead spend them enjoying life, taking care of yourself, and optimizing your investments.
@@rokyericksonroks Go to his 3 day seminar... at the end he promotes Rule 1 options trading. 1 week after the seminar his people call you and want you to sign up for his options trading course that costs $9000 for the 1st 6 month module.
Hey Phil, how about we help each other out. Let me help you get in shape by teaching you what most people have no clue about and in return, I receive your tutelage for investing. I know for a.100% fact I can give you great information about getting in shape. Let me tell you, it does not start in the gym.....
What does your morning routine look like? Were you surprised by my morning routine? Let me know your thoughts!
The first thing I do when I wake up in the morning is clear my head for 5 minutes with what I call a mental reset.
I don't have a routine, but I like your suggestions! One thing that gets me out of my head, and clears my mind, is swimming. Once I go underwater the whole world gets quiet, and I can reach almost a euphoric state, if I swim underwater for long lengths of time. ;)

How about a video about your daily routine when you were still poor and building up your wealth.
Thats what i want
wake up get ready go to work 9-5 go home cry yourself to sleep repeat
That would be more meaningful. Frankly disappointed he relies on NYT as a trustworthy news source.

I haven't seen any video yet where he doesn't say something about Warren Buffet. I'm pretty sure he has a pic of Warren near his bed.
Doesn't everybody? I even have a Warren Buffett blanket & pajamas :-D
One of the tips in the book “invested” is to keep a picture of one of your hero’s to constantly remind yourself of your goals
After his comment that Bitcoin is rat poison, I just see Warren Buffet as an old man clinging to the past.
Same here - Buffet is at my Viber picture ...
If you don't have a picture of Buffet, then you're not an investor.

I workout regularly
Rowing is a good exercise, it's muscle training cardio, and targets the legs, lower and upper back, which is good for posture
Rowing is almost like a horizontal deadlift
But less set up
Also those fly wheels automatically add resistance as you pull harder
Small world! 😉
Up at 5am, workout, breakfast, working for the man in banking, home, MBA work, sleep.
savage ... respect
Amazing video. Love that you do you!! I am in Advanced Options and I am structuring my days differently now - me doing me!
My usual routine is that: I wake up at 9am, then I work, and then I go to sleep 3am.
@phil how can we have investing has full time career if it only reaps returns in the long run.
Hahaha yes coffee the secret ingredient to everything :)
Thanks for the advice to be healthy and fit to be mentally and physically active and alert !
Great video Phil!! We would love to hear more about your meditation routine. 👍
Loved this video alot Phil. Reading is such a pleasure for me. Look forward to making this a larger part of my lifestyle. Thank you for all u do!
Excellent Phil, aiming for a similar start to my day once my baby and toddler are a bit more up. Thanks for sharing.
Phil alittle off subject I have limited funds great ideas you have on buying wonderful companies on sale . My problem is keeping the cash to do so at the best time should I just invest in a good mutual fund to hold and withdraw when the opportunity arises . Thanks for your videos your a cool guy
As always, fantastic advice. Thanks for sharing!
every morning I look at my list of 20 stocks that I trend trade. sometime taking one or two off and add 1.
Motivational. Inspirational. Valuable.
Thanks for watching, Sam!
Thanks for educating, Phil!
Inspired! Watched it in 2020
Love the content! Very efficient with your time.
Thank you for delivering again Mr. Phil ! Keep it up !!
Great daily routine but for us beginners I feel we need to crank up the the appetite to learn to invest the right way and put lots of energy into that. What routine advise do you have for a beginner with a ferocious appetite to be a great investor
Different routine in many ways . Mine works for me ( up at 5.am), but inspired to do some workout and yoga. Thx
I love your honesty.
Hi Phil,
Love your material mate - learnt a lot from you 👍🏻🙌🏻 Just wondering how you stay motivated to read and work hard day after day. Do you ever get bored or feel unmotivated?
How about a house tour video?! :D
If you look at God you'll be at rest.”
― Corrie Ten Boom ...and as Tim Keller said, "start each morning by looking in the mirror and reminding yourself, "I am not God." Having that perspective gives you rest, and let's you make decisions without worrying too much.
Why does your wife's cartoon have wrinkles but yours doesn't! Haha great video as always.
Thank you for a great video! 👍
Could you share with us how you start investing?
This is awesome !!!
Valuable advice.
Do you put stop loss orders?
what investing book do you recommend for noob like me
If you haven't read Rule #1 Investing yet... start there!
The intelligent investor is a great start
@@PhilTownRule1Investing okay thank you
Another great read is the Dhando Investor by Monish Pabrai
I’m 30 and literally only became interested in investing two weeks ago. Full novice. I hope it’s not too late....
Two months*
Definitely not too late, Sam. You've got this!
13:25 "If I had to chose between my wife and a mare, I'd chose the mare" -Phil town (refrence to the crazy mare guy"
Sounds like you try to zen out as much as possible. Sounds good!
Phil, do you find you sit too much though? Like, I WANT to read all of the things, but my M-F 9-5 (ugh) is soo sedentary I have trouble sitting and reading after work and even on weekends. Help!
Tell me how I can have horses (plural) and servants (plural) on 18K a year income?
I’m not a full time investor but I would love to work as it for a half day…anyway I read a lot of staff about stocks
Looks like a ideal day
Your method is very common but reliable although many do the same way! No news? How can I analyze about the future of market without knowledge.
Like the idea of second workout, i guess not all are willing to do it in the eco of market
Mr Town, you sir are an interesting guy. Do you still have a hedgefund? Or just do all your investing on your own for your own?
Phil, when are you going to write a Rule 1 options trading book?
Never. That’s because options often involve losing money, a clear violation of.... Rule No, 1!!
@@rokyericksonroks Go to his 3 day seminar... at the end he promotes Rule 1 options trading. 1 week after the seminar his people call you and want you to sign up for his options trading course that costs $9000 for the 1st 6 month module.
The inner work seems to me to be as important -even more so- than the outwardly work.
Every time I watch your intro I feel like you're running for office
I think the music is very catchy. Lol
Great great video 👌
I love how you always look like you just played 18 holes - im jealous!
Hey Phil, how about we help each other out. Let me help you get in shape by teaching you what most people have no clue about and in return, I receive your tutelage for investing. I know for a.100% fact I can give you great information about getting in shape. Let me tell you, it does not start in the gym.....
this helped me so much!!! thanks!!!
