  • So how do you pronounce "Baudelaire" from A Series of Unfortunate Events?
Baudelaire is the last name of the main characters from A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket (Daniel Handler). I talk about why I pronounce it the way I do and the bigger discussion of how we learn to pronounce words in general.
Music: "Wind of Hope" from Audioblocks.

It’s also pronounced as Bow-delaire in the audiobooks, some of which are read by the author himself, so that’s why I pronounce it that way

Thanks for the comment. I haven't heard the audiobooks so I haven't heard the author read it himself.

    Baudelaire (Bow- del- air)
We know this because that’s how Daniel Handler/Lemony Snicket pronounces it and he’s the author; so that’s how he wants it to be said in this particular case, hence why it’s like that in the Netflix Series conflicting the movie WHERE may they say didn’t use the author. Practically what I’m saying is that What you hear in the Netflix series is right because they asked the author of the books/ writer of the show and the movies pronunciation is wrong just like everything else in it because they didn’t ask Daniel Handler/Lemony Snicket. The movie was very contradictory to what the Author wanted.
    EVERYBODY GOT IT??.!!!

    Baudelaire (Beau de l’air)
Literally means « Beautiful of the look », it either designates someone who looks beautiful, optimistic, well-rounded or in a good mood. The closest pronunciation would be “bodelair” 😉

He written "Les Fleurs du mal". Charles Baudelaire is very famous in France.

Minute Book Reports Baudelaire is one of the most famous French poets. There is a reference to him in The Hostile Hospital, when the orphans search for files about them in the archives. He is known for writing poems about his depression and melancholia, so the name is quite fitting for ASOUE.

Charles Baudelaire was also the official translator of Edgar Allan Poe (an other reference) for the french audience.

True... but once you learn the word origin and it's proper pronunciation, choosing to continue mispronounced it is tantamount to continued ignorance, and disrespectful.

I love people who are insanely exacting and thoughtful of language. This guy, huh? Would love to have coffee with him and just talk about language for a couple of hours. Not that I'm very smart about it; it's just that I love it.

Idk once I realized French language speaking people pronounce British cities names way different...
But historians learn to say words by comparing them to rhyming words.
I really recommend to look up "Shakespeare in original pronounciation." It is very interesting.
And rythmes and innuendo..and puns are revealed in the writing...that are not in the modern used pronunciation
