- Race cars are cool and all… but going on trails with your buds to do some off-roading and eat sandwiches at the top of a mountain. So to get Dan’s Toyota FJ Cruiser a little bit more off-road capable, he’s getting a bit of lift on the thing, along with some fresh Falken rubber. Because everyone’s daily should be able to tackle anything from forest trails to curbing outside your local deli.

Yes sir! What he said about supporting the industry...I just had some overdue upgrades done to my car. New clutch & flywheel, downpipe, tune, and a couple other nick nacks...
I just did that to my toyota tundra last week in my gravel driveway. Did new bridgestone dueller ATs. Did bilstein 6112s up front to level and 5100s in the rear and also some airbag spring hepers in the rear. Its a whole new truck. towed a 7000lb piece of equipment and a stock sc300 afterwards. Was the best improvement my tow pig has ever recieved.

I've had Wildpeak AT3s on my Silverado for almost 3 years now. It's my daily, and mostly just does street driving, but those are the best tires I've ever owned. Pretty quiet for how aggressive the tread is, never been stuck when I have used them off road. Love my Falken's

I just put those same wildpeaks on my 4runner. Super impressed with how quiet they are for how grippy they are as well.
Dan as much as the leveling kit will make the FJ look much better do yourself a huge favor and do the 2" to 3" lift with quality shocks such as Fox, King or I did Walker Evan's. It made such a huge difference in my FJ. Dirts roads that were a challenge at 25mph stock were easy at 60mph after that swap. You will love it.

Cooking BBQ with Danger Dan needs to be a thing. Marinate ribs in copper slip, and a dash of Loctite.

If those are Bilstein 5100s then you can just lift it that way by adjusting the bottom spring perch thing. Just pop out the big circlip thing on the body of the shock then move it to one of the higher slots.
Dan..... for future reference, all you have to pull is the 2 19mm bolts on either side of the lower ball joint to get enough movement to get the struts out. If you ever do one for someone else. Thats pretty much any toyota truck.

I love my FJ. I just happened onto your video and funny how I just had the same tires delivered. I also plan to do the leveling kit for now, maybe progress to something more. But this is cool to see how my FJ will look like with the same setup, minus my different aftermarket wheels.
I'm watching Dan use a hammer on his wrenches and thinking "this guy's goin' easy on the car!"
Our shop usually uses various electric impacts for damn near everything that doesn't go inside an engine lol
Loving those wheels as well as that FJ #FJGANG.
If those were 5100 bilsteins you can get height by adjust the snap ring. If those aren’t, just buying front 5100s is a better ride for not much more price than a spacer lift

Easier way to remove strut, drop the lower ball joint at the bracket. Allows lower control arm to pivot all the way down after unbolting the lower strut mount. Unbolt top 3 strut bolts and slides straight down.

Watching this was thinking, damn his knees must be sore being locked in the crouching position and kneeling on concrete than at 9:43 "my knees are killing me", you confirmed my thoughts. Dan get yourself a set of roofer's grade knee pads that have the rough outer coating and soft foam insides to withstand the abuse. Or pick yourself up a kneeling board, they are less than $20, can get them at Home Depot, meant for people doing gardening, landscaping and various other things, is basically a 1-2' thick solid piece of foam that's about 2 feet by 1 foot, has a hard plastic shell with handles on each side., tucks away easily when not in use, the thing will save your knees.

I lift trucks for a living. Here is a trick loosen up the upper and lower control arms so they will move easier!!! keep it up!!!!

Looks like you have bilstein 5100s if you do those are adjustable they have 4 settings you can pick one and set with a lock ring and it’s not recommended you run spacers with them they bend easy
If u dont have the clearance just put the jack under the suspension to compress the strut then it lifts the hub but not the body

The way he was able to tap that bolt loose for the parking break was impressive. In MN I would have had to get an angle grinder out and a jackhammer along with a bulldozer to get it out.
It's muuuuuuuuuch easier to get them off if you remove the UCA, also you don't really need to support the LCA when disconnecting the coilover it kinda just sits there, i actually put a prybar on mine to get it down to make a little more room and it would spring back up just from the bushings being tight between the tabs.
The shock/coil spacer is fine for fitting bigger tires but your making the coil not compress as much as it would stock so you need to add bumb stops or longer shock travel

the old jeep conundrum, build it inside, doesn't clear the door header after. We have had to mount steelies with tiny tires (or no tires in my buddies case) to get out of the garage.

You might want to look into the upgraded front upper arms when I lifted mine we had issues with caster and caused a pull .

I had the previous version of this falkens on my lifted wj Jeep but LT rated, rode like crap then I got these as a regular passenger tire, day and night difference

I’m surprised being a car guy you didn’t use suspension lift (bilstien 5100 leveling shocks). Maybe 4 wheeling isn’t your thing but 55 years of 4 wheeling taught me to never use body lift. It’s akin to heating coils to lower car. 😆
