Fuelkegs have a flaw during the welding part. Sometimes the welders leave the beads inside the tank without cleaning them out. And they get stuck in the valve if you turn the tank upside down. I ordered 4 FuelKegs and only one of them didnt have the beads. You can shake them around to hear it. So i ordered 15 more of them to Home Depot so i can pick out 3 good ones. 10 of them were full of beads. One had only a small amount of beads, and 4 were perfect. I kept those 4. So now i have 5 perfect FuelKegs out of 19 ordered.
I have four (4) Fuel Kegs with no leaks. (I also have four (4)) Flame Kings. I use brass caps on all of them. I prefer the Fuel Kegs over the Flame Kings because of the convenience, but you must get the refill kit in order fill them properly. I also use a small magnet to hold the Allen key to each of the Flame King tanks.
I prefer the Flame King, because one of my Fuel Kegs leaked, but my biggest complaint is that the gas relief valves on all my Fuel Kegs stopped working. I use the brass caps for sure! As far as the twist gas relief valve I find that it gets in the way when connecting it to the Buddy Heaters As far as the Flame King Allen wrenches, I keep all my fittings, spare Fuel caps, and 2mm Allen wrenches in a clear plastic container bin, so when it's time to refuel, everything is right there. Thanks for the video!
I have 10 refillable kegs 1lbs.. after refilling them 10 to 15 times the little white plastic ring on top an the black rubber o ring under it will go bad. Called Mr. Heater an they confirmed it's a problem
I would try a small phillips and depress the safety valve? to try and re-seat it. It is possible when the filler valve was removed it just didn't seat properly. I use 1 pound tanks in a work truck and when the torch head is removed in winter temps I will have them leak similar to yours.
I use a wooden matchstick, non sulfur end, to depress the valve to re-seal it. Happens all the time with the disposables. Then use the brass caps to make double sure a seal is made for transport and storage.
When filling these tanks, you can actually get a little bit of frost in the valve seat. This could be the culpret. I agree you may want to depress it to reseat it. I would try putting it back on the fill device and then removing it again. That might do the trick.
When you find your Allen key, put s small neodymium magnet in the handle of the refill adapter, just stick the Allen key to it and it'll always be there when you need it!
9:18 FYI the instructions with the Fuel Keg call out (in all caps actually) not to do that: “When finished, ensure the hand valve is closed on the 20 pound propane cylinder and unscrew the black acme nut. DO NOT BLEED REFILL ADAPTER BY PRESSING THE MANUAL LEVER VALVE”. Not sure why, but maybe it can damage the valve?
2:00 I think they don't put a gasket in the cap because it's just for protecting the threads and dust/debris. I'm certain that plastic is not rated for the pressure that propane can build up. The manufacturer was preventing lawsuits from plastic shrapnel if the valve leaked by.
I bought three tanks filled all 3, 1 leaked. I took a 90° Allen wrench and pressed the valve a few times and it seems to have stopped. I’m thinking it may have been overfilled, but I’m not sure.
I worked in the propane business for about 3 years. If you over filled it, it would be dangerous to even use it. As long as you stopped filling when you got a steady stream, you didn't over fill it. I think the valve seat sometimes gets stuck open a tad with frost when filling. You could try putting it back on the fill device and then removing it. This may open and close the seat to a proper seal. I think these Kegs should have a lifetime warranty against leaks. However, I tend to think this is just a issue that can happen in the filling process. Propane is very cold and creates a icy condition. Remember, when the supply tank is upside down, the propane being sent into the Fuel Keg is liquid. Very cold. Cold enough to give you a severe frost bite.
I too had issues with putting brass caps on the Mr. Heater Fuel Kegs. The brass caps screwed on easily to single-use bottles, both the squat 16 oz and tall 14 oz plumbing torch bottles. But they will not go beyond 1 turn on the Kegs (two of them). They fit reasonably well but still very tight on the 3rd Keg I bought. Guess I need to contact Mr. Heater.
@@EastTexasHomestead The pattern is indeed correct, but I don't think cut quite deep enought. The single-use bottles screw onto the heater very easily. Almost a little loose. Two of the Fuel Kegs screw on too, but there's a bit more resistance and near zero free play. Sort of nut-& bolt snug. It makes you glad that you have the leverage of a large diameter can to grip your hand onto. The 3rd bottle spins on almost as easily at the single-use cans. So something just isn't proper in their manufacturing process.
@@EastTexasHomestead Next steps taken: A Coleman disposible top thread OD according to my calipers measures about 24.8 mm. The 'OK' keg measures 25.0 mm. The too tight keg measures 25.2+ mm. Not a whole lot different, but enought to screw the pooch. I called Enerco customer service. They requested the serial numbers on the top brass neck, and committed to sending me replacements. I'll let you know how this goes.
Interesting 🤨 I’m glad you took the measurements to find out. It sounds like Enerco is going to make it right and take care of you. That part is encouraging. Looking forward to hearing how it plays out.
Hey thanks for doing this video. I did the same thing I went with the flame King I didn't like the Allen key thing in the bleed valve was really small it wasn't impressed with it. The fuel tank came out so I ordered that kit and it hasn't arrived yet so we'll see. Thanks again for doing the video.
Great review! I've been refilling the green 1lbers for years, but they take longer to fill if you actually want to get the full lb of lp in them with purging gas, etc... I am going to make the move to the Mr. Heater Fuel Keg. It is definitely expensive up front but will pay for itself quickly and be better for the environment.
Make a stick on pocket for the allen wrench and put it on the tank that needs the allen wrench. As long as you put the wrench back in the pocket every time you use it all is good.
ive had them for quite some time, 4 of em once sometimes 2 a month get refilled, and two spares on lanterns only issue refilling one once and the bleeder did not seat right after filling i just wiggled it a bit good as the day i bought it. could have been humidity related but even still ide call the number and see if they would help me out if not ide go buy new its worth it after you make the investment in the fill adapter.
I have several of the Flame King and Fuel Keg. Use the companies refill. There is a subtle difference between each companies refill kit with the depressing pin.
I've been refilling "non-refillable" cylinders for many years and never have they leaked. How ironic that a cylinder designed for re-filling is leaking.
At the 9:30 mark when you're showing a close up of the leaking keg, it appears the relief valve is stuck in a depressed position. It should be flush with the base. Perhaps that was your leak?
used green bottles for yrs no problem . Got the fuel keg to be safer . On the 3rd refill main valve leaked like yours . I did reseat it and it worked . 3 refills later , not sure if it is the same bottle , I have 2 , It refilled fine and when I screw it on to the mr buddy it leaks out of the over pressure valve . I cannot trust them and will not use them
I used a Coleman can about halfway during a camp out. On the way home it leaked completely out. Thank goodness it was in the open bed of my truck, if it had been in a trunk or back of an suv it would have been bad. Didn’t know about those brass caps.
A plastic cap on the top is NOT meant to stop leaks, it could never hold the pressure, it is to keep dirt out in storage. The valve inside the cylinder is supposed to seal it; your leak is in that seal. The seal either has a manufacturing defect of a bit of debris has caught between the sealing surfaces. The biggest problem long term with these cylinders and portable propane appliances is dirt in the propane plugging an orifice or holding a seal open, iether from your nurse tank or stuff getting into the hoses and tanks.Try to reset the seal by bouncing the seal or refilling it again. BTW I have been refilling the normal 'non refillable' ones for years and just bought some of the refillable ones too.
Thank you for the info. I’m new to this and trying not to blow myself up if we lose power during a blizzard. What do I do with the leaking keg if I have one? Let all of the vapor out and try to return it? Throw it away? Try to fix the seal? I like the idea of refilling vs buying disposables.
@@pamwilkinson4302 personally I just put a brass cap on it and put it on the shelf. I contacted Amazon and told them it was defective and asked them to send another. They wanted me to send the old one back but I reminded them that that was illegal due to the vapors. They said to just keep it.
Just got this tank from Amazon. Mine sputters out on a brand-new tank. Eventually stopped leaking and the relief valve never shot out propane gas when I filled it up. Any suggestions.?
Be sure the 20lb tank has liquid in it. If it’s getting close to empty, it will be nothing but fumes inside and never squirt liquid out of the 1lb relief valve. If that doesn’t work, maybe ask for a refund. Glad to hear your leak stopped.
I have two Fuel Kegs. I don't use them a lot, mostly used on a single mantle lantern when camping. My last refill, I had a problem. After I took it off the refill manifold, the propane leaked out draining the Keg in just over a minute. It's the older of my two, ( I got them two months apart from each other) , but it's over a year old. Does anyone know how long the warranty is?
I have the fuel king and use the brass caps on all containers ,only fill untill it’s liquid starts to speart out, if you fill it untill you get a consistent steam, you could over fill. Causing it to leak.
Can the flame king or Fuel keg be refilled without the special filling adapter. Are the separate filling adapters specific to the brands. I've been refilling the green coleman bottles for years and have a filler hose with valve. Will this hose work on the Flame king and Fuel keg bottles?
i dont know about the coleman but it clearly says on the label " do not refill" otherwise flame king and fuel keg have their own refill adapter and will not work together.
Concrete cracks and poop happens. Regardless of brand, once in a while a bad apple is going to slip through. I like the fuel keg system a little better than Flame King's, but both are good systems and we'll worth the investment.
Do you recommend those brass caps even for storing after use? Also, Mr buddy only recommends using the fuel keg for their heaters. Do you agree or have you used the Coleman and others with the mr buddy?
If the tank is empty, the only reason to keep the brass cap on it is to keep it clean. If you've got the cap, you might as well keep it on the tank. As for using Coleman or Flame King vs. only Fuel Keg on Mr. Heater's products, they want to sell their own tanks. Any 1lb LP tank will do just fine. Most of their heaters have been around for years before they released the Fuel Keg. So, all the other tanks worked just fine, and the heaters were designed to work with them. I hope this helps.
I have the original Mr. Buddy heater that was sold over 20 years ago. Still works fine. I need to get some of these one pound refillable tanks BUT. I have to see if anyone will ship to the EU. Moved here 18 years ago and the only tanks I see here are the 14 oz propane tall tanks.
My fuel keg leaked. I removed the schrader valve and found a metal shaving on the white plastic seal. Cleaned it and put it back in and its not leaking now
Could simply be minor debris. While it may be a defective product, it highlights the importance of inspecting the container and equipment prior to the process.
The little vent valve on the top of your tank is not seated in your picture on the leaking tank. just push the vent with a small screwdriver to reseat that valve .
Have yo tried with a leaker to put it back on the "Tank Recharger" turn the little valve open and closed to see if that stops the leaking? I bet the pin got stuck. I am going to give the refillable tank a chance for the Gimbaled single burner stove I am putting into my little 19' trailerable boat for when me and my dog go boat camping next spring. I didn't mind when you were able to buy the coleman 1lb tanks for a couple dollars each now they are too expensive and a waste of money. The gasketed brass caps are a good idea
@EastTexasHomestead when I got my flame King I already had a system I used to fill the disposable ones. that system work great on my flame king, so I did not have to buy their valve to refill with. just FYI
I’m guessing that maybe you over filled the Fuel Keg. Remember when you mentioned that there is a small amount of space at the top of the vessel for expansion? You might of reduced that space with too much liquid propane. Just a thought.
The safety pin in the top is caught out of alignment with the quater turn ring outside. Insert the fill valve, turn the ring open then close. Remove the fill valve.
It all depends on what you're using it in. If a Little Buddy, it will last around 5.5 hours. If in the Buddy FLEX, it would be 2 to 3.5 hours - depending on the setting. In colder weather, like -5C, you will get a little worse performance, but hopefully, the room will heat up as you use it.
If the refillable little tank is 100 percent filled. Were is the room for expansion when and if the tank gets warm. Propane tanks are normally only filled 80 percent
The tank is designed to always keep that 20% room for expansion. When the liquid starts spitting out, it is at 100% of what you can put in but only 80% filled.
Because some people talk when they shouldn’t or post it on social media. There is also a guy that posted a video that he gets them out of the trash, refills them, and sells them.🤦🏻 ( I have no clue of any licensing he may have, but my layman’s understanding is that might not be legal) If you are discovered to have one of the other little refill gadgets it could be inferred that you have refilled them. While the general public may not ever have this be an issue, the presence on certain government properties or traffic stops could become an issue.
Very unlikely of course. But.... If it ever came to it, they could test the contents and match what is in your larger tank to what is in the disposal canister. Purchased (not refilled) would not be exactly the same.
I guess it depends but I’d guess a solid 18 or 19. There will be some loss so you won’t get 100% of it. The other thing to consider is does your 20lb tank have all 20lbs or is it filled to 15 like most of the ones you swap?
You left out an important point. I have been using the Flame King system for a few years with their tanks with no problems. Recently I saw that the Mr. Heater fuel kegs were about four or five dollars cheaper that the Flame King tanks and ordered a few. When I tried to fill the Fuel kegs with the Flame King filler system I couldn't get the tanks to purge. Further investigation revealed the you must use the Mr. heater filling system with their tanks because they have a pin that depresses a detent that allows gas to pass through the tank neck to the purge valve. Your tanks will only fill to roughly half capacity if not using the Mr. Heater filing system. I have ordered a Mr. Heater filing system and I suspect that it will not work with the Flame King tanks because I think that the pin that protrudes down into the filler neck is going to bottom out and not let the filler collar to tighten down all the way. Any body out there know if the Mr. Heater filler will work on the Flame King tanks? I'll give an update when mine arrives.
Absolutely. I told Amazon that it was defective and they asked that I send it back. I told them that would be illegal and they said just keep it. They then sent another.
I'm still not sure what I'm doing wrong but I've tried over and over again and this is what happens when I connect the keg to the refill kit I line up the 2 pins where their supposed to be and tighten down. I turn on the gas from 20lb tank and turn the pin on the keg and and proceed to fill but when I do 2 things don't happen. One I don't hear any hissing continuously like iEVERY video I've watched on this it's does for about 3 seconds then stops and secondly I never see vapor escape to tell me it's full. (Probably because it doesn't fill because of the no hissing). When I disconnect and shake there's very very little inside the fuel keg. I even bought a pressure tester for the tank. I'm homeless and live in a tent and money is very scarce these days and I desperately need this thing to work to keep me warm. If possible please explain to me what I can be doing wrong cause I even bought the first 2 back to the store and replaced them but obviously now I see I'm doing something wrong
@@danthesteelersfan69 thanks for reaching out. The only thing I can think of is that your 20 pound tank is empty. Well, not exactly empty, but there is only vapor in it and not any liquid. Try shaking your 20 pound tank and see if you can fill liquid in it. They (20lb Tank) can be quite deceiving and you think that it’s full because the tank itself is relatively heavy, but it could just have vapor in it. You can spend 20 minutes and never get a mist to come out, but it has a slight hiss. Hopefully this helps. Best of luck and stay warm! Happy Thanksgiving
i just got my first one today and watched videos on how to fill. what happened to me was i also got no hissing . re watched the video and saw that when you turn the ring valve to the left to release the gas out and allow the liquid to enter you need to turn it to 90 degrees left but it wants to stop at about 30 degrees . you need to force it to 90 degrees and it will..then it will top rotating. Then you will hear the gas hissing as it escapes . it worked ok after that. g
I'VE BEEN ADDING FUEL KEG'S TO MY ONE POUND COLLECTION, (I'VE NOT TRIED FILLING THEM YET), BUT I'VE HAD FLAME KING'S LEAK ALREADY (I ALWAYS PUT BRASS CAPS ON ALL OF MY TANKS), I HAD A LEAK FROM A ONE POUNDER SCREWED ONTO A RED ICE AUGER, AND BURNT DOWN MY POLE BARN, AT A LOSS OF AROUND $400,000.00...
@@EastTexasHomestead I’ve actually done that on butane torch lighters. It works like a charm! Because propane is a refrigerant, it has a tendency to freeze up the seals during filling. Depressing the valve a few times can also clear up the problem by purging the frost from the seals. God bless.
I have a stockpile of Coleman’s I pick up a 2 or4 pack every time I go to Lowe’s or Walmart I also identified some not turkey tail today! I thought I found some but it had gills on the bottom side
I'm all about stocking up on the Colemans if you have space. They're a rock-solid investment for bad times! For the Turkey Tail, that's a bummer. :( I've turned over so many with gills or smooth. It took a few years of checking before I actually found some for the first time. Keep looking! Not trying to be a smarty pants but on the factory video he doesnt fill until a steady stream of propane is coming out the vent , at the first sputter of gas he says to begin your turn off process
I don't know why you would vent the gas vapor. That is what your equipment burns. The pressure from the big tank will compress that gas as it inserts the liquid. You are just wasting what you could have burned. Releasing the vapor could allow you to overfill the canister and then it might vent when you least expect it causing a fire or explosion. If I leave a canister connected for five minutes the canister will reach the safe weight indicating it got a full charge. The 20lb tank you use to fill the 1lb needs to be at least half full when you do the refill process.
WARNING: Be aware that when filling these tanks, the O-rings and the outer plastic sleeve can come out of the tank and stick to the fill connection. It happened to me. But I was checking each tank and noticed it. I strongly recommend that you check every tank right after you fill it. Very important. You need to make 100% sure these 2 parts are put back in the tank. I'm deeply concerned about these parts coming out of the tank so easily. If these 2 parts are not on the tank, I would have to think there is a greater chance the tank will leak when you are using it to run an appliance. I like Fuel Keg but I really think Fuel Keg needs to address this as a serious safety issue. I do believe that Fuel King tanks presses these parts in a bit tighter. As for the tank leaking. I also have one tank that leaks. I worked at it to try to stop the leak to no avail. I wonder if the Schrader valve is not completely tight. I did get Amazon to send me a credit for a replacement. Yes, I do recommend the brass caps.
@@najodsalman5398 Yes, there is a rubber O-ring and then a plastic sleeve that goes on top of this O-ring. This should remain in the tank. I am perplexed why this O-ring and sleeve doesn't stay where it belongs. It may not cause a leak when the tank is attached to an appliance but I would make sure you soap the connection to make sure it's sealed. I have never had a tank leak because I make sure the tank is screwed on tightly but this O-Ring coming out of the tank concerns me. Just FYI, make sure you check for leaks.
@evertmorse8518 thanks for the reply i hooked it up yesterday to the sunflower heater and didnt hear or smell anything but initially when attaching to the heater it leaked but once i got it fully seated it didnt leak but that makes sense because the oring and sleeve where stuck on the refill valve
@@najodsalman5398 This O-ring may be more used as in the refill process. I just think it's odd that it often comes off the tank and gets stuck on the refill nipple. I watch my tanks closely after refilling to make sure I re-install them on the tank. I know the company knows about this issue. They don't seem to be concerned. Btw, all 1 pound tanks have this sleeve and O-ring.
Refilled by anybody. If you or I were transporting a 1 pound (Coleman) refilled disposable cylinder, and were questioned by the Propane Police, while camping, or in transit, how, would they be able to tell that the cylinder had been refilled thus violation the rule about transporting a refilled cylinder?
@@paulanderson388 For the average person, the chances are below 0%. However, If, for some reason, I were to travel with one and an accident were to happen that caused an insurance claim, it would no doubt come out that I've been teaching people for 8 years to refill the Coleman tanks, and I would not only lose the claim but be prosecuted for violating the law. (Dang, that was a long run-on sentence) So, for me. I don't think it's worth it. But if you don't have a record of selling thousands of refill adapters and a million or so views on the topic, you would likely not have an issue.
Wow! You have no idea what you’re talking about. I hauled propane for over 20 years and have filled thousands of tanks. You don’t open those valves to purge out the vapor, you open it up to know when the tank is full. It’s called a fixed liquid level gauge. It has a dip tube that sticks down in the tank and when the liquid reaches the tube it comes out of the hole. When you see liquid coming out you know it’s full. Also it illegal to transport any containers filled by volume, meaning it has to be filled by weight to be transported.
Thank you for putting that information in your comment. The inability of people to understand what is going on absolutely boggles my mind. You're not releasing pressure so the tank doesn't burst.
when you fill the small tanks I think you should purge the air out of the filling device because when you do not you put a little bit of air in the tanks you are filling propane needs oxygen to burn and by not purging the device you inject air at each fill and over time it might become dangerous
You may have overfilled it. It may need to be a little less two much liquid in the head re hook it up with out the big one hooked up to it and drain some out then see if it still leeks maybe a safety issue with the value just try it you my have overfilled it with liquid if so next time you will know not to put so much liquid in it
I have been refilling my Coleman's for 20 years. The labels have been gone for 19 1/2 years... The refillables are horrible.. Pay no attention,, refill your Coleman's and transport them in your car... Also Buy the buddy clones for a fraction of the cost...
I agree with the sentiment and practicality of what you’re saying but advocating for someone to break the law is not something we do here. I like you think it’s a silly law. 🤪

I may have missed it but why not just buy the 4 pack from Walmart and keep refilling them but using the brass cap like you mention? I know you will never fill it all the way up because you can't purge the air so maybe it'll be like 80% full capacity which is still good.
When your car blows up and the investigators find the propane tank they know. It might be enough to void car insurance or life insurance from paying out. Any reason to not pay out is a good reason for insurance companies.

Yes, I would recommend them.I've even had Quite a few coleman's Leak on me
I too had issues with putting brass caps on the Mr. Heater.
That's so strange. Does the Fuel Keg go into the heaters fine? You would think that the threads are a universal pattern.
@@MOSTEK1969-jw5do Sounds like they have some work to do. Thanks!
Nice! Let us know how you like it once it arrives
I hear ya on that. There's nothing wrong with the Coleman cans, but this just streamlines the process so you can get it done faster and run longer.
Both are pretty solid systems. 👍
@@EastTexasHomestead I haven't had any problems with any of my tanks from Flame King/Fuel Keg. Happy with them. I'd like them cheaper, but............
Very informative review! Also enjoyed the cameo appearance by Hank Hill!
I've been refilling "non-refillable" cylinders for many years and never have they leaked. How ironic that a cylinder designed for re-filling is leaking.
It’s a bit ironic. 🤷 I have had the others fail but not on the first refill.
At the 9:30 mark when you're showing a close up of the leaking keg, it appears the relief valve is stuck in a depressed position. It should be flush with the base. Perhaps that was your leak?
Some times the valve doesn't seat good when using or filling the tanks. You can use something to just quickly push the valve in and it will seal.
Thanks! I'll definitely try that.
I will continue to use the fuel King tanks...Thanks... enjoyed your video..🙂🙂🙂
Not going to fault you for that. Glad you enjoyed the video 😊
used green bottles for yrs no problem . I cannot trust them and will not use them
There might have been a small piece of dirt that got inside and kept it from sealing. I would use it and try to fill it again.
I used a Coleman can about halfway during a camp out. On the way home it leaked completely out. Thank goodness it was in the open bed of my truck, if it had been in a trunk or back of an suv it would have been bad. Didn’t know about those brass caps.
Dang! Get some caps! Glad you are safe 🙏🏻
I just use a forklift propane tank no need to turn it over it feeds liquid not vapor. I did have to get an adapter but totally worth it.
That’s cool! I had no idea about this concept. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the input. I’ll give that a try next time
Can the flame king or Fuel keg be refilled without the special filling adapter.
Thanks for sharing your honest experiences with the refill kit. Every product has its defects -hopefully yours was the very small percentage. 👍🏼
Yeah, the first one was definitely a lemon. Hopefully, I got the 1 in 1,000,000.
I use the little buddy in winter to speed up defrosting my windshield! It works super fast lmao! 2 minutes!
I have 3 of the fuel kegs. All work so far.
Nice! I'm glad to hear it
Do you recommend those brass caps even for storing after use?
Yes I use the same exact brass caps they come with rubber inserts .
That's a bummer! I'm glad to hear that old Buddy is still kickin'. Best of luck!
My fuel keg leaked. I removed the schrader valve and found a metal shaving on the white plastic seal. Cleaned it and put it back in and its not leaking now
Thanks for the tip!
I purchased the Fuel Keg…..no problems yet, seems more sturdy than the Flame King
Glad to hear it!
I have a feeling the detent got stuck. I’d bet money that if you poked at it, it would seal up again.
I think you're right
Could simply be minor debris.
While it may be a defective product, it highlights the importance of inspecting the container and equipment prior to the process.
Any idea if you can use the fuel keg refill system to
refill the Flame King tanks?
You CANNOT.
The little vent valve on the top of your tank is not seated in your picture on the leaking tank. just push the vent with a small screwdriver to reseat that valve .
Thanks!
Can you use the kingflame refuel adapter with a Mr Heater bottle and vice versa?
@@noqsw5058 unfortunately no. They don’t match up
Have yo tried with a leaker to put it back on the "Tank Recharger" turn the little valve open and closed to see if that stops the leaking? I bet the pin got stuck. I am going to give the refillable tank a chance for the Gimbaled single burner stove I am putting into my little 19' trailerable boat for when me and my dog go boat camping next spring. I didn't mind when you were able to buy the coleman 1lb tanks for a couple dollars each now they are too expensive and a waste of money. The gasketed brass caps are a good idea
I could not get brass caps to screw down all the way in the Fuel Kegs. What brand are these caps?
That’s a bummer! I purchased the YOUHO brand ➡️ amzn.to/40Eosgq (affiliate link)
@@EastTexasHomestead Same! I tried to post about it today, but now I can't find my post.
Interesting 🤔 I’m not sure why but sometimes RUclips decides to not accept comments.
I will stick with the Flame King it works great and no leaks so far.
No doubt. If you already have one system, there's no reason to complicate things by getting the other.
@EastTexasHomestead when I got my flame King I already had a system I used to fill the disposable ones. that system work great on my flame king, so I did not have to buy their valve to refill with. just FYI
@@tshirley05015 Really? That's good to know! Thanks
That is a great tip! I’ll try it next time.
hi Sir can I check with you , for weather temperature-5C , 1 bl gas cylinder can run how long?
It all depends on what you're using it in. If a Little Buddy, it will last around 5.5 hours. If in the Buddy FLEX, it would be 2 to 3.5 hours - depending on the setting. In colder weather, like -5C, you will get a little worse performance, but hopefully, the room will heat up as you use it.
@EastTexasHomestead Thank you so much
@@andrewhoon5822 You bet!
Pressure increases at high altitudes, reason for law. Don't transport over high mountain passes etc.
Or leave in a hot car in the summer.
Great Video! Thank you!
You bet! There’s plenty more coming
How on earth would anyone know you refilled a canister? They wouldn't.
This is true ;)
Because some people talk when they shouldn’t or post it on social media.
There is also a guy that posted a video that he gets them out of the trash, refills them, and sells them.🤦🏻
( I have no clue of any licensing he may have, but my layman’s understanding is that might not be legal)
If you are discovered to have one of the other little refill gadgets it could be inferred that you have refilled them.
Or that thin tank blows up
You have to make obvious mods to it to refill
I thought the 20 lbs tanks had anti-tip valves, interesting that they would work upside down?
I've heard that quite a bit but haven't found one that doesn't tip over and work.
I've done this with numerous tanks. They all work.
How many 1pound tanks do you get from a 20 pound tank
I guess it depends but I’d guess a solid 18 or 19. There will be some loss so you won’t get 100% of it. The other thing to consider is does your 20lb tank have all 20lbs or is it filled to 15 like most of the ones you swap?
Très bien expliqué.
Merci!
how much gas is waisted during this?
That's a good point. Thanks for bringing it up. I do not believe either refill system will work with the other but i haven't actually tried it yet.
Correct . Only work with compatible tank . NOT BOTH :(
One of the fuelkeg tanks I got does not bleed. I contacted fuelkeg support but never got any response from them.
That’s disappointing. Sorry to hear that.
Question, do I have to use the fuel keg refill kit to refill the fuel keg, or can I use the same one I used to use on my flame king.
Neither system is compatible with the other brands tanks. You can only refill the fuel keg with the fuel keg brand filler assembly.
@ thank you
You said you were gonna send it back. I don't think you can ship these once they've been used.
Absolutely. I told Amazon that it was defective and they asked that I send it back. I told them that would be illegal and they said just keep it. They then sent another.
Are you sure it’s not a safety release. For exactly 1 pound. ???????
I bought 4 tanks and the first one I filled up leaks. I haven’t filled the other 3 yet 🤦♂️
Dang! Sorry to hear that. Hopefully it will reseat after it is used.
Hi, Do you have to cap them off if you buy them before you've used them ? Looks like you were.
Just capping them off after refills.?
Just after they have been refilled
T.y.😊
Then you will hear the gas hissing as it escapes . it worked ok after that.
g
@EastTexasHomestead if you have the Fuel Keg refillables you NEED the Fuel Keg refill kit . Other one won't work . Only fills less than halfway
Ouch!!! That's super unfortunate. Sorry to hear that. Hopefully, you were able to file an insurance claim and get your stuff back.
Just use the old standard bottles with brass caps for storage.
I'd put a drop of oil on the valve once empty and try and re seat it.
I've never tried that, but it sounds like a good idea!
@@EastTexasHomestead I’ve actually done that on butane torch lighters. It works like a charm! Because propane is a refrigerant, it has a tendency to freeze up the seals during filling. Depressing the valve a few times can also clear up the problem by purging the frost from the seals. God bless.
I bought 3 and one was leaking.
Thanks for letting us know
I have a stockpile of Coleman’s I pick up a 2 or4 pack every time I go to Lowe’s or Walmart I also identified some not turkey tail today! I thought I found some but it had gills on the bottom side

Thanks! you too
Not trying to be a smarty pants but on the factory video he doesnt fill until a steady stream of propane is coming out the vent , at the first sputter of gas he says to begin your turn off process
You're right, I think I missed that part! Thank you for the kind correction.
At up to 100 psi, that gasket inside the plastic cap won't do any good to keep gas from leaking!
Where do you get the brass cap that you demonstrated.?
Amazon has them
Here’s a link to the ones I purchased amzn.to/4eouSDq
Thank you
WARNING: Be aware that when filling these tanks, the O-rings and the outer plastic sleeve can come out of the tank and stick to the fill connection.
So the small oring that is stuck onto the refill valve is supposed to be on the tank itself?
@evertmorse8518 but maybe some super glue around the sleeve will make it stick in their idk
How would the Government know the disposable cylinders have been refilled?
For you or me?
@@EastTexasHomestead OK, now I understand your point. Thank You.
@@paulanderson388 You bet
You are not supposed to transport them for sale; the rules that apply are for interstate commerce.
3:28 You meant to say "Fuel Keg."
Oops... That's correct. Thanks for calling that out.
I’ve never been one to care what the US government “officials”say. ✌🏼🇺🇸
I hear that
when you fill the small tanks I think you should purge the air out of the filling device because when you do not you put a little bit of air in the tanks you are filling
propane needs oxygen to burn and by not purging the device you inject air at each fill and over time it might become dangerous
You have no clue🤡
@@yungsmile7546 no clue about what
You may have overfilled it. It may need to be a little less two much liquid in the head re hook it up with out the big one hooked up to it and drain some out then see if it still leeks maybe a safety issue with the value just try it you my have overfilled it with liquid if so next time you will know not to put so much liquid in it
I appreciate the feedback! That makes sense, I'll give that a shot next time.
I have been refilling my Coleman's for 20 years. The labels have been gone for 19 1/2 years... The refillables are horrible.. Pay no attention,, refill your Coleman's and transport them in your car... Also Buy the buddy clones for a fraction of the cost...

I may have missed it but why not just buy the 4 pack from Walmart and keep refilling them but using the brass cap like you mention? I know you will never fill it all the way up because you can't purge the air so maybe it'll be like 80% full capacity which is still good.
There’s no reason not to do just that for personal use on your property. That’s what I do. If I’m traveling, I take the others.
