What I like most about Bard is that it's an archer class that isn't build with pets in mind. I don't like those aspects about many other ranger/archer type classes in other games
The pet aspect is cool, but my favorite archer is marksmanship hunter from WoW. I really hope one day we get a true ranger in the game once they start adding jobs that share weapons
@@Magee25 man, summoner is not a true pet character imo lol the summon don't even have an AI, they just buff your attacks and use some stylish moves instead of yourself, but you pull the trigger they are all brain dead

As a bard keeping track of the stuff along with mechanics definitely can feel overwhelming at times. I just wish we could set audio cues for more stuff other than just an attack or two
I started FF as ARC/BRD but overtime stuck with it as my main ever since. I'm beyond neurodivergent and my brain doesn't work like others, so I'm small brained when it comes to combat mechanics. Bard is the easiest for me to follow because of that. It's a few simple things that I don't feel like I have to practice muscle memory for. The way you explained everything in this video is something I appreciate greatly, because I've dealt with so many people laughing at me for playing a bard because 'not enough damage' or 'bard's not a real class', which hurts more than they realize. I struggle trying to learn other jobs so I stick with what I know...and when I've created other characters and selected ARC/BRD again...those same people tell me "Of course you pick Bard again...when will you ever play another class.." I wish there wasn't some dumb negative stigma against Bard...it's a fun class for me that I can really understand and enjoy..
Bard is fun. No pressure. You ain't competing for top dps spot because you are the reason why others get top dps. You are in a support role. I love that. Also love my Bard UWU weapon because it is the legit bard weapon. It's the only one with a harp attached to it.
I started FFXIV exactly a month ago, with Bard as my main job and I'm really enjoying it. I have to say, though... early leveling is SUPER DULL. The fun starts only at around level 60 when you finally get a suite of proper skills. Before then it's basically just spamming one button with the occasional use of something that got off cooldown or needs to be reapplied every 30-45 seconds. Now that I'm getting into content where I actually can use my higher level abilities, I'm super happy with my class choice. However, it's still super weird to me why Bard is using a bow for their weapon, even after having played Ragnarok Online for 20 years, where Bard and Dancer also base on Archer.
Thats a pretty accurate statement for most jobs. Lvl 50-60 are where things start to get interesting in most cases. Bards using bow is a lore thing, mostly. Fairly interesting history
Bard can get pretty cluttered once you reach 90, so don't worry about that. But yeah, I started playing Bard because my main class in RO is bard, and they use instruments. It's indeed weird to see Bard still using bow here.
Guess I got lucky by choosing this as my first job. I think it's one of the best choices for learning fights as a dps because you're not even that heavily punished, even if you mess up your rotation a little. Key is mechanics > rotation, at least for me. ^-^ Nice video!
Only thing it's missing is some kind of war horn, but like the eso emote, not necessarily tuned but super loud. Was always super cool to pop in large PvP fights or big raids
N°1 reason to play Bard is the same as Red Mage, you do Damage, have a good support potentiel AND do all of this with a Style level (in animations and glams) other jobs can't even dream of
Started as a bard at the end of SHB, and then changed to paladin right before EW to skip long queues. I then leveled rpr, sge, the other tanks, Sam, and then whm. Finally came back to the bard and I missed it. But I find myself staring at my skill bars way too much. It's easy right now is most content, because I know the fights, but I could see this being a pain in new content.
Just started playing a few days ago as an archer. Loving the class, i do still keep looking at other choices now and again but something about the archer is just fun. I used to play Captain in lotro and I feel like the bard works in a similar way with support abilities. Im interested in the viper aswell when it releases. Looks like fun!
Okay so I wasn't sure what to expect when coming in here. But I am FLOORED by the BRD rendition of "The Bard Song" By The Blind Guardians. It's been a favorite of mine for years.
Even with the changes that they made to bard in EW, I still main it. I just have way too much fun playing this Job, even at lower lvls. I actually started as a caster class and took up archer just for the heck it early in ARR, and it stuck. I've played something like 90% of the game as bard. XD I do however struggle with using the performance function with a keyboard, partially due to having small hands, so I may eventually look into getting a plug-in keyboard so that I can actually practice playing these songs with more success.
I LOVE my Bard never mained anything else in 6 years. It has had its bad times and gone through some changes and other jobs stole some of our utility but I still love how mobile it is.
Even before Endwalker I have loved Bard because I don't EVER lose an attack because I have to move (unlike my main Summoner). I call it the 'run and gun' class.
I was looking for a class similar to the unholy dk in wow (back in wrath and cata) and this seems the closest. I loved setting up my dots and then spreading them to all enemies and watching the dps meter sky rocket. I was getting numbers leagues above everyone else, until pandas came out. I love dots, dot management and support roles so this will be fun for me. I have another character as a black mage for my top dps role to satisfy my love of large numbers.
Now you all know, the bards and their songs, when hours have gone by , I close my eyes, in a world far away , we may meet again, but now hear my song….
Bard right now is really unique and nothing else plays like it, but i also wish that SE split bard into a more traditional Bard/Sniper class. My opinion on bard as i have levelled it up is that, it is unique but it feels super busy and crowded as a class. If you look at the bard skills, on one side, you have the songs, Coda, blood letter, and your basic attack. and on the other, your refulgent arrow, Empyreal Arrow, sidewinder, apex arrow, blast arrow, dots and iron jaw. The song side, and the damage side alone can probably be a good basis to build a class around. You can have 1-2 more skills that interact with repertoire, have the songs affect the bard a little bit more, and i would say that is an complete class. On the other side, have refulgent arrow be on a combo basis + 1 more skill, give the "sniper" role some longer channelling abilities and 30s or 60s burst window and that would also fulfill the ranger/bowman fantasy as well.
Bard is my main. And she's a bada**. But the armor is on the meh side of things. Nice looking armor, but she really has to dodge things like crazy. But everyone more than likely is aware of that. I was kinda just say'n. ✌️😎👍😉
Your glam in the scenes with count Edmont looks a bit like the female Bard from the Witcher 3 (forgot her name; update: Priscilla). She plays a role in the MSQ of the Witcher 3. Nice glams! I started my FF14 yourney with Bard. Switched to DRG when in between ARR and HW. Was already lvl 55 with Bard and didn't want HW to be to easy. Also Estinien looked so badass. And I grew tired of waiting for MSQ prog to get new skills for Bard. Continued with DRG with MSQ (also DRK). Finished EW with DRG. Love dragonfire dive, but I just don't like DRG rotation and not bursting in opener. Love NIN now (thanks for your NIN guide!). And will eventually continue my now lvl 60 Bard (love Idleshire Michael Jackson ish Bard gear).
Well I have the opposite oponion of the repertoire mechanic change. It quite often felt very terrible when you were on a lower level content nand your DoTs would only trigger once or twice the entire boss fight. And while constant DoT triggers on trash pulls were amazing, the moment you had no enemies, your song was completely useless and some trash fights were like " Fight one group of enemies then the next group spawns and you have to apply everything again". Now the whole thing is more consistent and when everything is dead or the boss is not there right now, I still get something out of my songs. And I'm not deaf anymore. Overall I like EW Bard more than ShB Bard As for the DoTs in generell, I'm not sure where SE wants to go with them. Right now it doesn't feel like a DoTot class. More like a physical ranged class with excellent group support and DoTs feel a bit like an afterthought. If Bard is also supposed to be a DoT class then using them should have some pay off. Perhaps something like this " Using Pitch Perfect on an enemy with both DoTs makes Pitch Perfect stronger" " Using Blood Letter on an enemy with both DoTs while under the effect of Mage's Ballad shaves off some of the cooldown of the Blood Letter" " Using Empyreal Arrow on an enemy while under the effect of Army's Paeon with both DoTs gives access to one additional repertoire stack up until a certain number "
Seeing that dots are slowly getting removed and BRD still can't spread their dots like SMN could in SHB, imo it's save to assume that BRD will lose their dots completly in 1 or 2 expansions. At the current state of the Job they are complete obsolete, even Sidewinder doesn't have a dot-scaling anymore. I'd say keep them on Archer but don't take them into BRD just like with Bio on current Arcanist but not SMN
I've been a melee player for so long that BRD being so reliant on all these variables, from procs, to songs, the Soul Gauge, and dots... just blew my brain up. How anyone can do well as a BRD while also paying any attention to mechanics is just beyond me. DNC has all the procs but none of the DoTs, and support which is tied to abilities you were going to use for DPS anyway. Some may not like the more streamlined support design, but it's the only one I can play. And MCH fits like a glove for a melee player to transition to the PhysRanged DPS role. Bard is just...really too cumbersome for me to really jive with.
The micromanagement aspects of bard are what turned me off from it. It's so easy to lose track of your song rotation and DoT management in the heat of the fight and unfortunately it's not a simple matter to recover from mistakes in those areas.
