"30 Combat width? Does Jesee know something I dont?" This jesees second game i dont think he even knows what combat widht is... i have over 600 hours and i dont even understand it
all you need to understand 40 for attack troops, and 20 for defence (cover frontline gaps) combat width is a factor in almost all paradox games. basicaly determin how many troops can fight and how many will be in reserve. so by having 20 or 40 you make sure u max out your width inflicting more damage. while doing 30 or an odd number will have you fight bigger armies then yours since youll never fill your whole combat width with odd numbers i hope i made sense english is not my native language
There kinda no point in understanding it since they are going to be completely reworking it in the next DLC. Basically the combat width just determines how big a unit is, battles have a maximum combat width per side so an attack might have 80 combat width to use and thus can field 2 40 width division at once where a defender might have 120 combat width to use and can thus field 6 20 width divisions.
@@Mankorra_Gomorrah maybe I miss a dev diary but as far as I know they are just twitching the terrains width values to end the 20/40 meta. The core mechanic is still the same
To be fair I use a 30 combat width marine division, basically a 7/2 but i throw in 3 amphibious apcs and 2 amphibious tanks so they get some extra oomph, they get the job done when i gotta take a straight.
@@fele09 yes the mechanic is there, hence why i explained the mechanic, but there’s no point in learning the meta when paradox is about to completely demolish it and it’ll probably be another few months before a new meta is found.
Thanks for teaching me how to play this game. First your tutorial is the best (and the shortest) but then watching you play both regularly and also saving these disaster games, learning what works and why, it's very helpful. And I am by no means like an expert or anything but I can say I have now had a successful campaign after a few tries because of your videos.
My second game I didn’t know focuses are a thing. I jumped from Napoleon Total zwar straight to this and I played HOI the same way I played NTW. Didn’t go well
The3 purpose of my second game was the united states and focusing on learning only the navy. My 1936 destroyers were wrecking battleships and carriers. It was unreal to see 4 carriers sunk in a naval report. I'll never forget it
They might of had supply because aerial transports have a unique option to drop supplies on your armies, it isn't much but it could save an encirclement
Also in my second ever game I got annexed by Poland and Russia as the Soviets because I didn't purge and I attacked Poland but I didn't have any equipment so my entire army got encircled and i died.
In my second game I didn't even know that generals existed so I wasnt able to create a front line and was completly annexed by the Netherlands as Germany after declaring war on them as basicly my first act in the game... So I think this guy did a really good job
I usually never overlap front lines. I almost always have each army on a different part of the boarder. And I always have extra divisions not attached to anything. Mainly for gap fillers.
I thought I’d help with the algorithm and say that this was hotter than my second game. Albeit, HOI4 base game lags badly on my pc so, very low bar to clear but still…
ALEX, please let me give you a tip in terms of micromanagement/combat - when you click to attack with let's say division A, you can take another division B that is bordering the attacked place and click to attack WITH CTRL button holded - this means the attack arrow will be blue and it means they are only supporting the siege, if the attack succeeds division A will move to this spot BUT division B will stay in their initial place. This simple move can prevent from getting encircled.. Please, please, please use it as it is absolutely horrifying to watch you get encircled so often, it is so painful to see... especially when it could be avoided. Cheers, congrats on passing 400k!
You nailed the pronunciation of Brest and La Rochelle, however Cherbourg is pronounced "chair-boor" (boo as in book) :) Yes silent letters are infuriating :D
Every Germany playthrough I’ve done I just get stacked and it’s a superrrr slow crawl through every single tile even when I’ve got the enemy outnumbered 2-1
I would really like a mod where you can create a med or mod tank division, but it will fill with light tanks if you are missing the correct type of tank
In my second game, I was playing germany and I was really going for Stalingrad because of the memes. Guess what I lost 67 Divisions in there because I got encircled it was about my entire Tank force.
Idk why everyone’s saying wow his second game! Bc on my second game it wa similar to this, except I was Italy. I had France, Spain, England and the balkans. I had already completed the tutorial so knew the basics
On the subject of random little pockets somehow still being supplied, you can fix that with a quick save and reload. Also how exactly did the save creator here manage to blunder into war with the Swedes and the Swiss, don't you usually have to go out of your way to fight them?
I can't believe he didn't invade Poland first. I guess I applaud his creativity and unique approach or whatever to the game but... Poland is so easy to take. Of course it may not be as easy anymore by the time 1940 rolls around... yikes.

I'm so glad you brought these back, I'm loving these videos.
Doing war at 5 speed is pain. Usually it's a good idea to do speed 3 or lower for micro and speed 4 for hands-off offenses.
Alex, consolidating under equipped divisions would have made this much easier on the logistical and combat issues you experienced
I thoroughly enjoyed this disaster save, it seemed one of the few genuine ones I can see a new player get into if they don't know what they are doing.
